My personal favourite place to buy meat, veggies and bread…read more Big barn type market in the centre of Newcastle. Numerous stalls that offer all types of different services. Numerous award winning butchers that offer prime cuts of meat, fantastic mince and healthy plump chickens and eggs! Wonderful bakery that makes the best breads and pastry I have tried. Wonderful vegetables and fruit stands where you get can a serious deal on great vegetables. Cheapest and most authentic pick and mix selection I have ever seen Fish monger, show repair, tea shop, cafes, clothing and boot sale, cd shops, home repair, clothing alterations ... Even a room with a scale in it! Grainger Market is magical. A must see, I consider the market a tourist attraction because of how traditional it is. The people in the booths all seem very authentic and very helpful.

It took me far too long to actually go to Grainger market. I love places with lots of little…read moreindividual businesses. I was used to markets being places with cheap tat and someone with a thick Black Country accent yelling from a van about sausages, and it's just definitely not like that here. There are still veggies, butchers (and decent cheeses to boot), but there are some seriously talented craftspeople too. It's good for a look around even if you don't feel like buying anyth8ng, odds are you probably will end up doing so.

Great little shop in the bustling Newcastle city centre market 'The granger Market'…read more They have all the little bits I need for baking my bread and all the oils i'll ever need to dip them in. The owners are passionate and dedicated foodies and will always off you some advice.

800th review, and pleased to give it to "mmm...." Silly name, but very fitting!…read more I'm a massive foodie, and I love to cook. I have a huge recipe collection and that includes several that very unusual ingredients. I file those recipes away in my head, thinking "if you can ever find amchur powder/palm sugar/tamarind paste/quail eggs/ancho chile powder/etc, you'll have to buy it and make this recipe!" Having just moved to Newcastle, I have already been impressed by how many ethnic ingredients and spices are just in your average Tesco, but Mmm... blows them all away! I think I spent 30 minutes in here, just scanning the shelves, trying to memorize what I saw so that I could come back when I needed a specialty ingredient. They have everything! For such a small shop, the selection is truly impressive. Lentils/grains/beans, hard-to-find spices, and my very favorite - a Mexican/Latin section with lots of different chile powders, chipotle chiles in adobo, and even Mexican cheese like queso fresco! And fresh corn tortillas! I thought I'd never ever find those things in Newcastle, and was well impressed. They also have olive oils and vinegars, some in bottles on the shelf and others to be tasted from large dispensers. You can fill an empty bottle of oil/vinegar then bring it back for a refill when it's empty and get a discounted price. Oh lord what else - hot sauces, preserves, loads of unusual condiments, beautiful dried pastas, various flours.... and yes, quail eggs! As they say on their website "Don't ask if we stock something, ask us where it is!" Right in the centre of Grainger Market, you will find this small but perfect foodie paradise. There's not a recipe in the world you can't make when you have access to everything that Mmm...has to offer! I'll probably be in here once a week.

The servers were very nice and the place has a constant flow of customers. Lovely to see a place with this ethos thriving in Newcastle.

TLDR: Food was distinctly average and honestly, not worth it (for me). Don't care for the…read moreInstagram-Esque pretentious nature. I appreciate what this place is trying to be, but the execution of trying to be this millennial-feeding, instagram-worthy, health cafe is a little off. It's predictably expensive. Staff are ok, in relative terms they were ok. They are believers in their product, but maybe do not appreciate feedback highly enough? I got steak wrap and chips. Now, a tortilla isn't a taco. A taco or a tortilla isn't a wrap if it's just halved. A nice little taco you can fold over and chow on, a full size tortilla can't be eaten like that. Steak was lovely, though. I opted for the "sweet potato chips/fries", the chips were just like warm, wet potato wedges, really. They obviously baked them for health goals but just failed from a taste point of view. Chips aren't wedges and chips are fried (unless explicitly they say not - particularly for an extra cost). Service staff took them back and brought more of the same. Truly miserable chips. Oh, and partner had similarly mediocre views of their meal. Anyway, this is too long. Yelp reviews are pretty much just a self-fulfilling act anyway.
