Yesterday (May 3. 2014) my mother, wife, and myself decided it was time to get my 6 months daughters ear pierced. We went to Your Menlo Mall location to get this done. When we first got there everything went as normal as we picked her out earrings. When we told the sales reps we were ready to make the purchase, they told us we were gonna be the next ones to get the piercing and that we just had to make the payment. As we went to make the payment we saw we were being charged for a warranty that we were never told about. When we asked Janet why we were being charged for a warranty, she brushed us off and told us just to pay for everything and then after she would explain everything to us. We then told her we wouldn't pay for anything without first being explained what we were paying for and that you can't just tell a customer to "just pay" and you will explain things later. so Janet came to us looking annoyed and explained the warranty process to us with a rude attitude, as if we were wasting her time. When we told her we didn't want or need the warranty she told us we wouldn't be allowed to make the purchase if we refused to buy the warranty. we explained to her that we didn't want it but she continued to say either we buy the warranty or we don't buy anything at all. After going back and forth with her about the warranty, Janet tell us either we buy it or we don't get the piercing and that we needed to make a decision quick because she had buying customers who were waiting, so we took the warranty since we had no choice.
As the person who was getting her ears pierced got out of the seat, another store rep took her customers into the piercing chair skipping us. Feeling as if Janet was being spiteful over the warranty, we asked why we were being skipped when we were told we were next. Janet said that since the other client was a baby that the baby need full attention and they didn't want the baby to get antsy making it hard to pierce the other baby's ears. my mother responds by saying we also have a baby and we were told we were next. Janet then ignores my mother and beings talking to my wife. When my mother asked why she was being ignored, Janet responded by rudely saying I'm talking to the customer (my wife) about her purchase. Surprised with what she just said, we asked her to repeat herself and she then again reiterated that she was talking to the customer, the one who made the purchase and that she didn't want to talk to anyone but the person who paid for the earring. Furthermore, Janet then threatens us telling us that we don't want to get her upset because she would be the one piercing my daughters ears and we didn't want her to make a mistake.
After hearing your store representative make a threat towards my daughter, we asked for a full refund and to speak to the manager, but of course Janet said she was the manager. We then told her we wanted her full name and her bosses contact information. Janet then said that the refund would take a couple of hours because they were busy, and that she doesn't have to give any information other then her first name.
After that horrible experience we decided to go to Woodbridge Mall since we have usually go there to get piercings. While at Woodbridge we find out the warranty is optional and was a requirement, which only irritated me more because Janet and her staff in Menlo Mall were telling every customer that they had no option but to buy it.
I work in retail so I understand how crazy things can get when there are a lot of customers, but as a Manager you are supposed to be the leader and should always take the needs of customers into consideration. Janet lied to us (as well as every other customer that was waiting that day) and was rude and pushy. She ruined the experience of my daughters first piercings and threatened us. I expect this behavior from children, not a grown adult who is supposed to be a manger. I find her behavior disgusting, appalling, and very abrasive. I will NEVER shop at your Menlo location again and I will tell everyone I come into contact with about my experience with Janet and your Menlo Mall location. You have a manager that will lie to customers, give them an attitude when asked questions, and threaten a 6m.o. child.
P.S. Woodbridge location was great, friendly, and informative. It's ashamed that locations that are so close to each other can be such an extreme difference in experience. You should promote people from Woodbridge to Menlo. read more
