I looked around on Yelp and chose Laura Rivers to assist us with our estate planning needs. After our first meeting with her, my husband made it a point to tell me that I had made a good choice. He couldn't believe we actually met Laura herself & not just someone who works at her office. She personally interacted with us to answer all of our questions while being sensitive to the matters at hand, never rushing us into decisions or pushing us towards any one thing. Her follow up was quick and within a few weeks, our estate planning documents were completed. I have to echo another review I read about her. Laura is definitely an estate planning attorney because she cares about people and is not just about money. Naturally, she is compensated for her expertise & services, as she should be, but we found her price reasonable and her demeanor friendly and professional. She was patient with us even though we had to bring our two small children to the appointments. (We are so new to the area that we had no one to babysit.) I highly recommend Rivers Law to anyone looking for an estate planning attorney in the Charlotte, NC area.

This law firm is a winner and a keeper! I can personally attest that Culp Elliott & Carpenter…read moreprovides their clients with a rare combination of both: (a) unsurpassed legal expertise, experience, and reputation; and (b) an approachable, down-to-earth, understandable, and respectful client relationship style, which values results over ego. As a former practicing attorney, I place an extremely high value on this hard-to-find blend of attributes and attitudes. So did my late father, an "old school," self-made, and unpretentious guy, whose mantra was "what's the bottom line" of an issue. He felt very fortunate in his career, and he wanted the fruits of his life's success to end up in the hands of his family and his community's charities, not with "Uncle Sam." With CEC's help, that's exactly what happened! Having been represented for decades by a number of Charlotte's largest and oldest "downtown" law firms, Dad wisely selected Culp Elliott & Carpenter over 20 years ago. CEC helped him, over time and through thoughtful, informed, forward-thinking, and adaptive planning and execution, to achieve his estate planning goals. After Dad's passing, CEC ably handled the administration of his estate. The process was managed extremely efficiently and effectively, despite numerous business, tax, and family complexities. And, the estate tax results were outstanding! This excellent relationship continues today, with CEC partner Paul Hattenauer handling both my and my wife's estate planning, as well as that of my adult children. Paul is blessed, in abundance, with both extraordinary legal and people skills. In addition to his vast breadth and depth of knowledge in highly complex matters, Paul is a great listener, a clear communicator, a strategic thinker, a practical and results-oriented practitioner, and a genuinely great guy. It is simply a pleasure to work with Paul Hattenauer. Despite the length of this review, I rarely write reviews. However, I would feel remiss if I did not HIGHLY recommend CEC to those in need of expertise and experience in sophisticated estate planning and administration of complex trusts and estates. Five stars, without a doubt! Scott Gorelick Charlotte, NC

We engaged Blood Law to prepare our estate planning documents and were ultimately very disappointed…read morewith the experience. The cost of the services ended up being almost double the amount originally quoted, with little transparency along the way about the increasing fees. Before executing the engagement letter, I called to inquire further about the process as the minimum deposit structure seemed odd for the drafting of discreet documents. I was assured that they use the same form of engagement letter for all clients, but that for estate planning clients, the retainer is treated as an estimate that should generally cover the discussed documents unless changes are made to requested services. We made no changes to our requested services, but the cost increased by thousands of dollars without any explanation. When we tried calling and emailing to gain clarity on the significant increase in fees, they (a) refused to speak with us by phone and (b) continued to charge additional fees while ignoring our emails. For something as important and sensitive as estate planning, we expected much clearer communication regarding pricing and billing expectations, and for any professional establishment, we expected that we would be able to receive an explanation of the increase in costs. Even more concerning was the quality of the final documents we received. The estate planning documents were riddled with typographical and formatting errors, including misspelled names and inconsistent font and numbering changes throughout the documents. These are basic details that should have been carefully reviewed before sending finalized legal documents to clients. We ultimately had to spend our own time identifying the mistakes, but were not allowed to fix them ourselves as we were explicitly prohibited from receiving word documents. Therefore, we spent the time identifying the errors, but were charged additional legal fees for the implementation of fixing such scriveners errors. Given the significant cost, we expected substantially greater attention to detail, professionalism, and quality control. Unfortunately, our experience did not meet those expectations. I would not recommend Blood Law for estate planning documents.
