I recognize…read morethat you, your partners, or any other firm cannot guarantee a dismissal; however, given that this was a simple traffic violation, we expected a completely different outcome and were under the impression this would be an easy case for you and/or your team. The purpose of obtaining legal counsel was to shield our son from the ticket's negative effects on his driver's license and auto insurance. As paid legal counsel, it was your responsibility to clearly disclose possible outcomes and consequences. Had this been appropriately communicated, we would have not accepted your proposal of 5 mph over and possibly sought alternative representation. According to your firm's website, Attorney Pavone stresses the importance of not pleading guilty as it is associated with negative consequences. By accepting the guilty plea on our behalf, you have now cost us thousands of dollars in insurance premiums and two points on his license. You are the experts here. You are in court handling these cases every day, and I am confident you are able to achieve more successful results. Otherwise, you wouldn't stay in business. At this point, there is nothing we can do. We will have to accept the judgement, which is extremely disappointing. In regards to the 2023 accident, he was hit by another driver and was deemed "not at fault." We have reviewed the DMV records, which does not list any points associated with said car accident; however, the speeding ticket is associated with 2. We also confirmed with the insurance company that the speeding ticket, and not the accident, was the reason for the price increase. As you can understand, we will not be recommending your firm.

I cannot say enough good things about Bill Powers. I know him as a friend, a neighbor and a lawyer. We first used Bill's legal services when our daughter as a new driver had several "moments of misunderstanding of the law" which resulted in speeding tickets. (For example, it's OK to speed if you need to pass a big truck or if your team has just won its first conference championship and you are headed to celebrate with teammates etc.) Bill was wonderful! He did not so much as help her get out of the tickets, but more provided a chance for her to understand the laws and to learn from her mistakes without affecting our (her parents) good standing or pocketbook. The consequences proved very effective. It took a lot of lifeguarding hours (this provided some time to contemplate on what she might have done differently) to pay the fines but the fines were for violations that would not doom her driving record. We thought that her experiences had perhaps helped our son, who now at 18 still had a squeaky clean record. Though it probably helped out some, we realized that he was not without error when we received a very surprising notice recently in the mail that "his court date had been set". After speaking with him, he informed us that as an 18 year old legal adult he had obtained his own lawyer (several months before this) and they had worked everything out and he was to be taking his classes that weekend to help erase the incident from his record. I will have to admit that I was very impressed, enough so that I didn't even question his not telling us. Of course, he had called our friend Bill Powers who had been an amazing mentor to him during this time. We are extremely grateful to Bill for providing this confidential outlet for our son to obtain ethical and responsible legal advice. There are lawyers that will help you avoid obeying the law or will even help you benefit from an unfortunate situation. I can say that Bill Powers is NOT one of these guys. He is a man full of integrity and compassion and a thorough understanding of and respect for the law. He has helped our young adults understand the law and its implications and has provided honest and straight forward answers and helped to turn the mistakes that they have made into learning experiences with consequences that will not hinder their chances for success in the future. Let's face it, the laws today are very strict and the consequences of breaking them can be overwhelming. And sometimes, our many (many!) words of warning as parents just fall on deaf ears. If you have a son or daughter who has recently turned 18 and/or is headed off to college WRITE THIS MAN'S NAME AND PHONE NUMBER DOWN AND GIVE IT TO THEM! Better yet, call Bill yourself and schedule an appointment for your new drivers and new adults to sit down with him and have a nice chat about the law, their new responsibilities and the impact that bad decisions could possibly have on their future and yours. read more

Recently, I had the good fortune of being represented by Mr. Bill Powers and his Powers Law Firm, P.A., located in Charlotte, North Carolina. I am a Maryland resident that was arrested and charged in North Carolina in a case with a complicated probable cause. After reviewing different law firms online, I selected the Powers Law Firm. Mr. Powers was very professional and extremely helpful. I had an issue regarding a N.C. license that wasn't supposed to be active after I had gotten a new license in another state. The state of North Carolina was not notified by this state and had erroneously suspended my license creating a chain reaction. Mr. Powers contacted the AG of the NC DMV and resolved my issue very quickly. This lawyer from Charlotte negotiated a dismissal from the DA and that was the end of that matter.
