Atlanta Caribbean & Seafood Festival in the Promenade section

Piedmont Park is equivalent to Central Park in NYC. It has a community pool that is very clean & they do charge a small fee durong differenthours. They have lots of life guards, you can just chill, go around the lazy river, swim around the whirlpool or do lapse. They have lots of events that go on at the park. They have several parks, a large lake, rest rooms and parking for a fee. You may also find street parking, which is a little more difficult when an event is happening. Some of the neighborhoods have permit parking only on the streets so make sure you read the street signs. Get out and enjoy Piedmont Park it is located in the Midtown area of Atlanta, GA. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED 5

An oldie but goodie AND I'm just discovering all the "spin off" trails that I NEVER explored . Take a left off one of the trails on the opposite side of the athletic field and have FUN! There are so many sites to see and places to wonder . I have a newfound love for the park, although I've been visiting it for nearly two decades. A beautiful location and a gem for the city.

Piedmont Park is an 121 yr. old, 200+ acre public park in Atlanta. The Piedmont Ave & 14th Street Entrance was within walking distance from our hotel. Upon arrival the first time visiting, in clear view was gorgeous greenery. Actually, along w/ great weather, lots of greenery and beautiful views are everywhere in Piedmont Park. Visiting the park multiple times throughout our trip occurred to truly enjoy all that Piedmont Park has to offer. Here are the highlights: - American Artist David Hammons "Free Nelson Mandela" Sculpture ' Created in 1987. - Dockside & Lake Clara Meer & Promenade - Gazebo - People were outside fishing & we just enjoyed seeing turtles, ducks, etc. in the lake. - Active Oval - People can go around the oval & walk, jog, etc. as well as enjoy exercising on pull-up bars, etc. - Skyline Atlanta Point - pictures taken here give you a fabulous view - reminds me a bit of an NYC Skyline. - Sean's Heart of the Park & the Swimming Pool. Pool has General Admission (small fee) & specific days w/ hours that have free admission. Seans's Heart of the Park has snacks / beverages for sale. We ordered delicious Strawberry Lemonade Slushies & hotdogs. There are various restroom & playground areas, cute birds & ducks & several jumbo bench swings w/ in areas of the park. Boy, did we enjoy using one of the swings & feeling the genntle breeze on our skin...so peaceful! Open Everyday - 6am - 11pm. piedmontpark.org @piedmontpark Check their website for information on things including programs, tours, their calendar, etc.

We had a great wedding at the Dockside and would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for an outdoor venue! The Piedmont Park Conservancy was easy to work with and their team was super professional and made sure I didn't have to worry about a single thing on the day of!

short of Central Park in Manhattan (from the same architect btw) Piedmont Park is the most-important greenspace on the eastern seaboard--but for sure the southeast. as such, we have to protect it with all we have. sadly, some other groups are not living up to the example that residents want for Piedmont Park. most notably, some of the decisions made by Botanical Garden and the land-swap. after all, that's how we got a "mini storage district" across from the park--something that would NEVER happen in New York. Piedmont is one of the reasons why I chose to grow my family in the Garden District and--barring some sort of massive shift in the city proper--I would like to retire here too. Piedmont Park is the Jewel of the Southeast and we should protect it with all we have.

Peaceful for a run, walk, or just to sit. There are adorable swings & scenic views all over the park.

Amazing place to relax and spend time with family. Parking is available for a fee and you can spend ours enjoying nature and exploring the whole park.

One of the best parks in Atlanta which is 200 acres and a great place to spend time. Whether you are looking for biking, walking, running, playing games, or attending festivals, this is your one-stop destination. You can also attend many festivals here all year round. This place does have bike rentals and scooter rentals as well. It also has a small pond with ducks where you can see a young couple doing photoshoots or the next tik tok star in the making :) Apart from this, it also has soccer fields and swings for kids. Overall, a great huge park for any of your needs if you are looking to be close to nature.

Came here to have a picnic on my 12 year anniversary and we picked out a prime spot too: in the grass, shade, cool breeze. But of course it wasn't enough because people had to literally sit RIGHT NEXT TO US. They not only sat next to us, they kept kicking their goddamn dodgeball at us literally three times until we just had enough. It really sucks when you're passively bullied by your own people. Saying sorry doesn't mean anything if you keep DOING IT. Anyway, go at your own caution. They do have lit festivals like the Pride festival in October we go to and the arts festival usually in August. Just be prepared to be potentially harassed or bullied for existing.

A great park in Atlanta. This place gives me Central Park vibes but on a scale that is manageable and enjoyable. I think I mostly relate it to that because it's the only other "park in a city" that I know and have been to, haha. Parks in a city is probably one of my favorite things because it brings nature to the urban area. At Piedmont Park, there are a lot of fields, walking/running trails, and many other things you can explore here. My last trip to Atlanta, I came here with my best friend for a nice relaxing time before heading to the airport to catch a flight home. We sat and read beneath the trees and it was probably one of my highlights of the trip. Everyone seemed to have the same idea, as we weren't the only ones doing this here. Such a great park to read, nap, or have a picnic at. Love it here!

Piedmont Park is such a great place in Atlanta! Always enjoy my time here. Clean fun outdoor area in town. A group of us (8) meet near the Park Tavern to do a night walk around the park during December. It was cold, but we soon warmed up during our hike. We choose the night because of the Holiday Lights. We wondered around for about 6 miles, passing by the Botanical Gardens which had beautiful holiday lights. Also we got on Peachtree Street with the many light displays along the road. All in all great way to burn some calories with friends, while enjoying the holidays. See my numerous pics. We have been here during daylight hours too. Many more people then. Also sports fields, lakes, and relaxing areas on the grass. Music is normal part of the park with symphony concerts during the summer. Also movies on the green during summer. Nice views of the downtown skyscrapers from Piedmont Park. The popular beltline trail is near Piedmont Park. Parking can be a hassle. Easiest is to use one of the paid lots. Free parking can be found on some of the side streets, but read the signs carefully before parking.

Yes, you DEFINITELY get a great "Central Park" vibe as you explore this wonderful downtown Atlanta gem, and it's no wonder, as it was apparently designed by the same person (Olmstead?) who "created" NY's Central Park. Although we went on a somewhat cold(er), dreary late December afternoon, it's easy to imagine how full of LIFE this park must be as the weather gets warmer. Beautiful city views, great expanses of lawn/greenery, a pool, a lake, picnic areas, playgrounds... And that was just what we saw after a quick wander-through; I just KNOW there's so much more to see and do here. We were lucky to find nearby parking... I'm sure it gets more challenging during "prime time." If I lived in the area, I'd be back with my bicycle, a nice picnic lunch, and plans to do absolutely NADA for the whole day!! Enjoy this GREAT city resource, Atlanta!!!

My nephew and I had so much fun! Things have changed greatly since I last visited this park many years ago. They have a lovely parking garage. The botanical gardens are located here. I don't remember pool being there before, there is one now. The playground had a lot to offer, with instruments, slides, swings, and a mini fire truck.

Would it be weird to tan here in a swim suit - i'm an out of towner?

i havent seen anyone do that before but why not?

Is the volleyball court usually busy? Can I just show up and play with people that are there or do I need to get a team and make a reservation?

I was just there a little over a week ago and saw 4 x 4 on the volleyball nets going. Not sure if you need a reservation but hazard a guess it's first come first serve. No pun intended.

I would like to plan a picnic at the park for a birthday on a Saturday next month, what do I have to do in advance? Thank you!

I’ve seen small (5-10) and moderately sized (11-30) gatherings at the park on Saturdays. Be sure there is no event happening that day. If your gathering is larger than 75 people you’ll need a permit. I do not believe stakes are allowed in the ground… Read more

Is there a place to rent bike at Piedmont?

There are rentable bikes and scooter near entrances of the park. Like the bird scooters and bikes

Is this water source a Lake or a Pond?

I would say a very large pond.

Is there a basketball court?

Yes, there are basketball courts! Learn more here: https://www.piedmontpark.org/things-to-do/sports/basketball/

We'll be in town from California. Is there public fishing in this park? If not, are there any spots near the Georgia aquarium?

Hi Tamara! You may fish as long as you have a fishing license with the state. https://georgia.gov/popular-topic/fishing-licenses

How many miles if we walk the entire circle of the park?

Maria, we don't know the exact distance because there are so many different directions. However, we commonly have 5ks without ever leaving the park! -Piedmont Park Conservancy

I suggest parking here: http://www.parktavern.com/parking because parking money "goes to the Beltline"… Read more

I left grateful for the green space but not really feeling much else. For the kids, you have to realize: the Olympics put Atlanta on the map. Prior to the games, it was a mid-to-largish Southern city without much distinction.* After the games, it turned into the crowded af bastion of Southern pop culture. Atlanta's history is divided in pre- and post- games. That's why I thought that a trip here would be akin to Central, Golden Gate or Lincoln. Nope. It had some nice intentional design. Pavers. Statues. Fun water features. The Ferris wheel. The rings (the water fountain wasn't working during my visit). But... I don't know. Like I inferred above, it fell flat. Glad I saw it but I expected more. It's smaller than you imagine. Oh, and all the bathrooms were closed/locked on a Wednesday afternoon in mid-spring. I don't know what that's about. *Taking nothing away from Dr. King.

If traveling from…read moredowntown on I-20 eastbound, Glenwood Park is just off exit 59B (Memorial Drive, Glenwood Avenue). If traveling westboard towards downtown, take exit 60 (US 23, Moreland Avenue). This low key neighborhood, sandwiched between Grant Park and East Atlanta Village, is sort of "hidden." I think if you asked the average metro Atlantan if they've heard of Glenwood Park, they'd probably say no. Glenwood Park opened the same year as Midtown's Atlantic Station. Like Atlantic Station, Glenwood Park is all about urban and sustainable living. Unlike Atlantic Station, Glenwood Park isn't big. It's relatively small at just under 30 acres in total size. It's a lot quieter and isn't as commercialized. The property feels more residential than anything with quiet streets and wide sidewalks with nicely manicured lawns. After about a decade of existence, the development still looks great. There's a park/greenspace with a picturesque pond and a beautiful fountain. The community collects almost two-million gallons of its own well water per year in order to irrigate the park and street trees. There's a community garden where residents can reserve plots filled with high quality, organic soil. There's a dog park, playground, and neighborhood pool. One courtyard features a little stone fountain and full-sized bocce ball court. The layout was designed with pedestrians in mind, though there's plenty of free street parking and parking lots located on the development. It's clean and feels safe. The Atlanta BeltLine runs through the neighborhood in a north-south line. Food-lovers probably know Glenwood Park because of its restaurants, Gunshow, The Shed at Glenwood, and Vickery's Bar & Grill. Local celebrity chef Kevin Gillespie opened Gunshow in 2013 with fellow chefs Andreas Muller and Joey Ward. It may very well be *the* best restaurant in Atlanta. It's certainly one of the most fun and unique with it's American-style dim sum. You can read my review of Gunshow here: http://www.yelp.com/biz/gunshow-atlanta-2?hrid=_Zvxkqv86FBPQtUBysU21Q. The Shed at Glenwood is a modern farm-to-table restaurant with seasonal fare. Vickery's, known for its cocktails and burgers, opened its second Atlanta location in Glenwood Park. Drip coffee shop also has a location here.

There are a handful of retail businesses on the south end of the neighborhood that we frequent and the usual smattering of intown amenities - proximity to downtown, Virginia Highland, Starlight Six Drive-In. You get the point. Since moving here in 2009 we have made so many good friends and really love where we live. There's a community garden, a pool/gym and a dedicated dog park free to residents (as of this writing). A brownfield redevelopment and product of Green Street properties, GWP is home to the 2005 Southern Living Idea House. Many of the homes are distinct in design, presentation and vary in style but all still flow together. Most lots are very small but we managed to eke out a wonderful front flower garden and transform the triangle shaped garden in the back into a treed and flowered sanctuary. We tried our hand at gardening in the community garden but the summer Atlanta sun and invasive weeds had us handily beat by mid July. In October each year, the Hotoberfest beer festival is held in and around the main park (now Brewer Park) drawing a few thousand people to the neighborhood. Less exciting but nearly as big a draw (maybe stretching here) is the annual garage sale. A handful of movies have been filmed here including the Blind Side and Hall Pass as is part of the Real Housewives of Atlanta (one of them lives here as of this writing). Like other neighborhoods that started mid real estate boom but not finished before the bang, there are empty lots, foreclosures and short sales. The last builder to get going has long ago gone out of business and a few independent developers have put up new homes but it remains to be seen if the original vision of Green Street and the first residents will be fulfilled. However, this remains a one-of-a-kind neighborhood south of I-20 and a great alternative to the stunning but prohibitively expensive homes in Morningside, Virginia Highland and the handful of other established intown neighborhoods. Being so close to everything available in Atlanta has spoiled us for going to festivals (Inman Park, Dogwood, Summerfest, Shade), the drive in and so much good food + drink in walking distance (you hear me $2 PBR at ten places I can walk to). The EAV and Grant Park are both short walks and great neighborhoods in and of themselves. The Zoo and Turner field are less than 3 miles away as are dozens of the best restaurants in Atlanta. The beltline trailhead is just across I-20 so you can walk off all the beer and carbs. Definitely kid friendly, we've seen at least six newborns arrive since we moved here. The little ones have a playground, a music class and no shortage of friends to grow up with. We will be adding our own in February 2012 so we're planning on being in Glenwood Park for the foreseeable future.
