I'm here on a company trip and as a native New Yorker I can say Pie Hole comes pretty damn close to a true New York pie. Heck, it might even be better than some New York pies. Believe it or not, you can get bad pizza in New York. It just depends on where you go. I'll preface this by saying we were pretty drunk when we stumbled in here, but I know decent pizza even if I'm half dead. It might've even helped me look past the grunginess of the place. Is five dollars a bit much when you can get something similar in New York for two or three? Maybe. But it's not New York, so I get it. Overall, it's a really decent size slice, not too much sauce, maybe slightly thinner than a typical New York slice, but with just the right amount of toppings and enough pepperoni grease that you need a roll of paper towels to soak it up. read more

I come here a decent amount as it's near where I dj. The atmosphere is gritty and punk, definitely not a relaxing place to eat (I mean that in a good way) the pizza is really really good, although, pretty expensive for what it is. The last time I paid for a 5.20$ slice of pizza was Newport Beach, then again, to each their own. The staff have always been super friggin nice! Altogether I would recommend! read more

It's rare to find a pizza joint to handle the witching hours of the evening, but Pie Hole stands vigilant at its post through 3 a.m. and the gods bless them for it. And I do too. There was a 24-hour pizza joint in West Hollywood a bunch of us would go to after shows because it's your right to get pizza at the ungodly hours of the evening/early morning. Late-night pizza just hits differently, better even. Because everyone can have pizza with the other daywalkers, but when nightwalkers eat pizza it's because they know the stars and the moon and the dead bless the pie with all that after hours goodness. My slices were great here. They filled me up like the holiest of pizza spirits that still haven't left me over an hour later. I may never be the same. I'm a changed man. The space, though small, was cool. It's exactly what I'd expect out of an all-night pizza joint. It kind of reminds me of Nice Guy Burgers, who stay open till 2 am themselves, except minus the motivational guru for an owner. The counter person tonight was my spirit animal, very much telling me my slices weren't their cup of tea but hoping I'd enjoy them for me. I get it, this place is a dingy, punk-rock dive.. some might even say nasty. Frequented by late night crowd of drunks and homeless camped out to use their bathroom, it can get sketchy. But it is nice they stay open until 3 am on a Monday night when everything else was closed by 11. Before addressing their pizza, they no longer serve alcohol here. Pizza is New York-style and this is a legit slice place. Their pepperoni has good flavor, good cheese, good sauce, and greasy drip. I liked it. Their bell pepper pizza had solid enough flavor too. But here we ran into a problem. Their pizzas and crusts are undercooked, and if toppings get too heavy your slice will collapse under the weight fast becoming very floppy, soggy and tough to eat. So if you order an entire pie, ask if they'll do it well-done. Pizzas are big and pretty filling, a whole pie runs around $30 though no prices are hown, you must ask. While a slice is $4.50. A few other issues..crust is a bit low flavor, though the rest of the slice offset it pretty well. Cook times for fresh pizzas can take a while but not crazy long. All of the homeless out front is a little scary if you come in with say your kids like we did. They get right on your face and follow behind you to and from your car if they don't like the answers you give to their questions. If it's after dark it can be a scary area. A few more thoughts..Staff is fine. Ranch and especially their spicy ranch are 50 cents but worth it. The space is cramped and small, and I think there were teens dealing drugs from the back room table. Would I come back? Maybe for takeout, unless it was so late there was literally nowhere else to go. Pizza is good, but it's just not my kind of place. read more

Convenient to downtown SLC food options, I came here to try a slice for lunch. At noon, the line was out the door. But don't let that discourage you, service is quick! I suppose thin crust pizza makes it faster to go through. Majority of their pizzas are ready and when you order by the slice, they heat it in their huge oven. You can also see an employee on the side making more pizzas to replenish the counter. The Birddog was tasty and big enough to hold me for lunch. The toppings were fresh and this wasn't salty. Pie Hole is a slice of great vibes in Salt Lake City. Took off a star for grease (which is expected to a certain degree, but it was a lot even for me) and lack of parking, but overall taste and vibes were great. As far as I'm aware, there's really only street parking available, so it may get dicey. The restaurant is in a cool spot, a couple doors down from a bar and a tattoo shop and a Venezuelan place -- it didn't really even feel like Utah. I liked that we could get pizza by the slice. The service was quick on a Thursday night and the slices were a generous size. The pizza was already prepared and they threw it on a paper plate to reheat it, which was interesting. First time at Pie Hole did not disappoint! All the pizzas looked delicious so we asked a few regular types what they'd recommend and they all said the potato-bacon. Wow! I never thought I'd like potatoes on pizza, but we all enjoyed it. Also tried a veggie combo thing, pepperoni, and a side salad. All were tasty. Sadly, no adult beverages were available, but our crew enjoyed the cream soda and sarsaparilla. The team working there were all helpful and the line moved quickly since they just have to briefly reheat each slice in their giant oven. We tried to call several times to ask about gluten-free options (there aren't any), and they never answered the phone. The interior is fun and funky, but didn't feel exactly ... clean, so you might want to leave your mom home for this one. This is the second time we have pizza from this place. I don't understand why the rating is this low when the pizzas are SO good! This time we ordered the Pretty pretty princess pizza and garlic cheese sticks. Both were very good! I love their thin crispy crust and the generous toppings. The restaurant inside is pretty small, and it reminds me of NY style pizza places. I can never go too long without dropping in for a potato bacon slice covered in hot sauce. Thank you for taking risks with your flavor combinations on your daily slices. I had a mushroom olive mango pepper onion vegan slice with peanut sauce that absolutely defied all expectations. Your hot sauce variety is stellar, and despite the crowds of drunk customers that shuffle in, you maintain a decent level of clean and care. Hmm... pizza is usually my go to food. Figure I would pick up a slice of pizza and found Pie Hole in the close proximity of where I was staying. Off I went... excited to try a local pizza. I ordered 2 regular slices and 1 pepperoni slice. All three slices went into the oven to be reheated and I was then presented with a slope of pizza. They actually thought that it is okay to stack the slices on top of one another and serve it. I mention the person that it was to go and he took out a Styrofoam to-go box and placed my pizza in it. I was utterly turned off... why am I having pizza that are stacked on top of each other. As for the taste... the $1.00 pizza in NYC is way better. I don't know if this is how Utahns have their pizza slices, but it definitely does not pass the Brooklyn slice test. With that said... a big disappointment and epic failure. It is not worth the 4 plus dollars per slice. NYC $1.00 slice beats the pizza served at Pie Hole. read more

First time I tried this place was two years ago and couldn't get it off my mind. Always a must stop when visiting SLC.

The pizza taste very good. Freshly made dough onsite, and well-seasoned old-school pizzeria ovens (not the ones that look like igloos, but the ones with four or five slots running on gas). They specialize in pizza by the slice and their own unique take on toppings and bases. I went simple with a slice of cheese and two slices of basil and roasted red pepper. The cheese was okay, not NY style thin but not thick. Could have used more sauce, but the crust was good. The actual cheese seemed to be mozzarella but was unremarkable, not bad but average. The roasted basil and red pepper was excellent. The crust was perfect and the basil brought out the flavor of the cheese more. The thin slices of red pepper were the perfect touch. I would return for that slice. Most people in line got pepperoni, but I do not eat meat so take this review with a grain of salt. Get extra pizza sauce on the side. Their sauce is so good. I wish they added more on the slices, but dipping the great crust in the sauce on the side was the best part. They ought to bottle, sell, and ship the sauce; I would order it to ship to D.C. To be over1000 miles away from NY and Philadelphia, this pizza reminded me of an east coast joint with a funky eccentric vibe. They have specialty pizza on the menu named after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles which people ordered but were just too many flavors for me (yeah, I am basic). The pizzas for the slices were pre made and warmed to order. That usually adds some pizzazz as the flavors get a chance to marry. However, I wonder how much better the taste may have been if fresh? The prices are bargain-barrel averaging $3-$4.75 a slice. Whole pies are available. Delivery seemed to be available by DoorDash or other services. The wait was no more than a few minutes. The staff was affable and answered my questions. The place is opened late even on weekdays until 2:00 or 3:00 AM. It is not dirty but is like a funky divey joint that is made for a quick bite or carry out. Seating is tight with only four or five tables with four to six seats at each. They have an outdoor patio with a couple of tables but it is 105 degrees in Salt Lake City today so that is out of the question. Your kids would be happy with this pizza. Your adult tastebuds would also be thrilled. Great place with pretty good pizza. Four good stars. I will return when in Salt Lake City, Utah. read more

The worst customer experience! I was not even a customer there. I was just doing a delivery. An employee told me ten minutes wait time for the pick-up. I waited one hour to pick up the orders. one guy was there helping me, then he went away to the other side to serve customers and didn't relay any information to the other employees on me waiting for the orders. He even looked at me once in a while. Another employee came over 30 minutes later to ask if I were picking up. I said, I am and that guy over there knows. She proceeded to tell me that that one of the order was not started. I had to wait another 30 minutes. The staff needs more training on communication and relaying information between staff on waiting time and who is waiting for what. the lack of communication is bewildering in this joint.
