I'm pretty sure I can't even find fluffy jiggly cheesecake in San Antonio, what makes you think Brownsville would, for once, have the leg up on that trend? Well, I ended up eating my words. And friends, my words were in the form of this delicious cheesecake. So, we ordered this cheesecake through DoorDash, but we did also swing by the actual cafe in person to check it out. The cafe is pretty bare bones from what I remember, and they sometimes have cakes available to walk in and buy, but for the most part, they prefer you order ahead. And then we saw they did DoorDash. So. Yeah. Naturally, we got one. The cheesecake arrived with fresh strawberries on the side, and a light dusting of powdered sugar. Cutting into it was like cutting into a cloud. The taste? Wow. Heaven. Think the perfect marriage between angel food cake and cheesecake. It's so incredibly light but also retains a moist texture. I know these cakes use a lot of egg, but this cake wasn't eggy in the slightest. Overall, it was a delightful, satisfying slice and I think I vastly, VASTLY prefer it over regular cheesecake now. San Antonio has to get on the ball, cause this little shop nailed the recipe for Japanese cheesecake. A+, y'all. We'll need to order it again the next time I'm in town.

Everybody I spoke to over the phone and in person while picking up my cakes was VERY polite, attentive and nice. The cakes themselves (the execution) exceeded my expectations, both of my babies received exactly what they were asking for and they were blown away!:) As far as the flavor, my daughter is eating it right now saying, "OH MY GOD, it's too yami":) my husband who is not a cake eater admitted that both cakes were way better than he expected. For my taste the flavor and texture were just ok, but I have to admit that I grew up eating decadent gourmet cakes and it's really hard to impress me with cake flavor these days. They have a respectable assortment of pan dulce to choose from, including the all-time favorites like conchas, empanadas, marranitos, the sprinkle cookies, and the sprinkle cake (recently re-branded as dot cake to the kiddos). The prices here can't be beat. In San Antonio, a selection of pan the size my mom got would be well over $20. We paid $12.50 for our haul. Of course, back in the day I'm sure that would have been much less, but by today's standards that's still an excellent price. The quality is also pretty good. I ate the giant Mexican wedding cookie that was shaped like a normal sized cookie instead of the quarter-sized balls you typically see. It was buttery and crunchy. So glad we got to try it. Me for the first time, and for my parents, a taste they haven't had since around the time they both worked downtown.
