Cupcakes by Cory has moved to a dangerously more convenient location on Central blvd. I came down to visit my parents and also enjoy a mini vacation on South Padre Island. For funsies, we decided to pick up a dozen cupcakes to take with us. Talk about variety! But first, the customer experience of walking in: You are IMMEDIATELY hit with the smell of cake. Sweet, delicious cake. I imagine that's what heaven smells like. It's a small space, but the group makes the best it can with social distancing. Everyone is wearing a mask, and a hand sanitizing station is by the door and also by the register. All the cupcakes are protected by glass, and the colder sweets are protected in a clear fridge. And as appetizing as the cold cakes looked, c'mon. We were here for the cupcakes. They're legendary in the Valley. Our selection only had one duplicate: The lemon blueberry. And honestly, these massive muffin-sized cupcakes are huge. They're huge, dense, moist, and did I mention huge? They maintain their cupcake flavor without coming off as too muffin-like. And with eclectic toppings like HOT CHEETOS WHAT, decadent brownies, cherries, and candy corn (they can't all be winners, I guess), there's something for everyone here. My absolute favorites, in no particular order: Red velvet (Classic, delicious, traditional), strawberry (not cloyingly sweet, still fruity), German chocolate (ohmygodddd), and chocolate with a massive brownie plopped on top (guaranteed to satisfy your resident chocoholic). In fact, I loved these cupcakes so much I stopped by again before my drive back to San Antonio. The four and a half drive back was, indeed, torture. I have to disagree with the only other review on here. I would hate for anyone to read it, get the wrong idea and not go try the cupcakes at this place. Like he said, the place is really nicely decorated and the staff is really friendly. The cupcakes are very tasty and their cakes as well. My favorite are the butter pecan, chocolate chip, and strawberry cupcakes. I'm also a huge fan of their GIANT Cupcake cakes...on the chocolate ones, they put some mystery ingredient in the middle that makes them SUPER moist and OMG they're delicious. As for the price, they have cupcakes for $1.25 & $2.50 so the price is not bad at all... plus I would much rather contribute to a local business than to HEB. Not only are the cupcakes great, but they're art as well. Edible art? I'm IN! So if you want to enjoy a good cup of coffee, take your kids where they can make their own cupcakes (it's a new thing), AND help out a local business at the same time... this is the place to go :) read more

I ate out at a restaurant and saw the cupcakes there by the register which I've seen somewhere else I believe it was Angelitas cafe. I didn't think much when buying the cupcake I guess I just bought it to try it out since ive seen it before lol. But to my surprise when I got home I took a bite and it was so delicious! The cream cheese is to die for! I had only gotten 1 so I had to stop myself before I finished the cupcake. I believe the one I got was the jumbo cupcake which goes for $4? But it's so worth it! I can't say enough to explain how terrific Cupcakes by Cory is as a business and as a local establishment. Yesterday was my daughter's birthday, we had an outing planned especially for today for her fifth birthday, and when I forgot the cupcakes we had set up special for the outing, I called Cupcakes by Cory. I want to be explicitly clear, I gave about five minutes notice, and told them what had happened, they said they would have enough cupcakes for me. I asked if they could put the letter "L"on the cupcakes (her name starts with L), and I would pick them up immediately. Not joking, five minutes later, I pulled up to the curb and the employee walked out with four cupcakes in a tasteful white box and apologized for NOT BEING AT THE CURB WHEN I PULLED UP. My jaw dropped, my daughter didn't even give me as much courtesy when she was born! The pictures below should show the spectacularly crafted bakery items I received. For those who can't see the pic. All the cupcakes have white and pink icing. Bright pink flowers and silver (edible) pearls were everywhere. The number 5 and her name were in cursive in pink icing...Those beautiful enormous strawberry cupcakes!!! We are talking bigger than your fist! My daughters (all three) were amazed, as was I. Quite frankly, I wasn't expecting much more than a regular cupcake from a specialty shop (but at Cupcakes by Cory those are still the best in the Valley). Especially for the ridiculous timetable (all of five minutes that I gave them). Long story short, we are on SPI on one of the boat tours and TWO (not just one!!!) people stop us and ask where we got our cupcakes from b/c they looked and smelled so delicious! (We didn't eat the cupcakes until on the boat). SMELLED DELICIOUS!! On a boat!!! Thank you C by C for making this a spectacular day for my (not so little) one. I came home to my girls telling my husband that "Today was the best day ever, and you should have seen the princess cupcakes Mommy bought!" The place is nice. Staff is friendly. Service is fast. Had the carrot cupcake w cream cheese frosting. I must agree with another reviewer-the cupcake tasted like it was right out of a box. The cream cheese frosting was not very cream cheesy. It was very sweet, so I could overlook it, but needed more cream cheese taste. Location is great, in and out quickly if ur in a hurry. I might be back, but I will NOT b ordering the carrot cupcake. read more

Don't listen to the average reviews of Cory's cupcakes. This is the best place in all of south Texas to get desserts at. Hands down Cory and Brittany are artists in the kitchen and are always finding innovative ways to create rich and decadent desserts. They are truly special. read more

I Love ALL their cupcakes!! These cup cakes are baked fresh - i'm in love with their German Chocolate. Not to mention they are HUGE!!! I love sharing one with my boyfriend - makes for a nice, afforadble dessert for 2. And they are NOTHING like HEB - HEB cakes suck - you can taste the "mass production". I was excited to try Cupcakes by Cory. Being that its probably one of few bakeries that specializes in cupcakes in Brownsville. The place is nicely decorated wall to wall with cupcake stuff; cupcake pics, cupcake signs with cupcakes sayings. The cupcakes were decorated real good. They had some Easter, and character themed cupcakes; all nicely displayed. Although the cupcakes looked good; I thought the taste was sub par. Nothing better than something you would get from HEB. The cake tasted as if it was from a box, they had that smell you get from a Betty Crocker box, and the frosting was not good. At almost $3 each I need something more than looks. I really have to give it to CupCakes by Cory; they do have some good looking CupCakes. They also make customized cakes too; which also make good pieces of art. Overall I gave 3 stars to CupCakes by Cory, because the cupcakes make good art, but lack good taste. read more

I expected better packing being that I paid 19.00 for half a dozen. They just put into a box that did not separate them. When I got to my office they had all mixed together and it ruined the flavor of the cupcake. Really disappointed because it was expensive. read more

The staff is really great, friendly and ready to answer questions about their product. The cupcakes are really nothing special, you can make the same quality at home with a boxed mix. I tried a chocolate cupcake which was dry and maybe a bit stale (I went on a Friday). I also tried their better than sex cake which was also a dry and not very tasty. I really wanted to like this place but their products need improvement; I gave 3 stars because of the customer service. read more

I agree with Rudy. Place looks great and smells great too but the cupcakes are just the kind you make at home using a cake box. The presentation is okay, nothing special and the cupcakes are so big and puffy they look like muffins. I had mine to go and they used some plastic containers that smashed the icing. Their vanilla cupcakes tasted okay again, nothing special but the chocolate chips and m&ms give their 'fudge chocolate cupcake' that chocolately taste and without the toppings the frosting has very little to no flavor. I did see some of their cakes and cupcake cakes and they look great. Whomever decorates them has some pretty good skills, I just hope they don't use a box that smashes their decorations. read more

This is one of the first places I go to when I come home for a visit. Best cupcakes ever! I love the strawberry and Red Velvet. The staff is so nice and they never make you feel rushed to pick a cupcake. I love that I can sit down, eat my cupcake, and enjoy a glass of milk with it. read more

Best cupcakes in The Valley! Cory and her daughter have made the best cupcakes and cakes for each of my son's birthday parties since he was 1 year old (he is now 4 :). They are the nicest family and they are so helpful. I decided to leave a very honest review for Cory's cupcakes because I have been here many, many times. For every single occasion and even for no reason I come here to pick up a few. Let me start off by saying they taste very good and they definitely taste fresh. The frosting is sweet and the bread is very moist. I have no complaints on the price, the only problem I have is I noticed that sometimes the cupcakes come out different sizes and they "sometimes" don't have enough frosting. The large cupcakes are very large and I just think they should have enough frosting to cover the entire top especially if they are going to charge almost 3 dollars for a cupcake. That is the only reason they did not get 5 stars. Other than that the people are very polite and they are pretty much always stocked. =) read more
