Tried this restaurant again and again I was disappointed. There were 4 people in there at lunch and somehow it still took a long time. Fries are extra and then they were soggy. The kids pizza had no sauce on the pizza so it was pretty gross. The restaurant needs a good cleaning and update. I know there is only a few restaurants around Brimley but maybe one of them should try to have some fresh food and maybe something on the healthier side. read more

Was really hoping for a good experience. Staff is great but food oh boy. My whitefish basket was over fried and even smelled fishy. Have never smelled that from fresh whitefish in our area. And they keep the skin on to fry it which is not how I would do it. Everything was over cooked, which is unfortunate because the whitefish was what was recommended on reviews. Cheese burger looked under cooked but had a layer of burnt on it(maybe dirty grill?). Would normally have tried again but not sure at this point. I really wanted to like this place, but was quickly disappointed. We ordered pizza for the kids and it looked like it came out of the microwave (the way the cheese was and the texture of the crust). I ordered a chicken ceasar wrap and it came out with just chicken and lettuce. Neither of those tasted good and I kept hunting inside the wrap for the missing ingredients. I'm talking a zero-effort, bare minimum attempt here. This was some of the worst food I've had in my life, I'd rate it in the bottom 2 places I've visited (even lower than the place in Germany that gave me food poisoning). So, how did it get 2 stars instead of 1? The whole pickle theme is pretty fun and there are pickle hats that they gave us for the kids. We also sat next to an aquarium and that settled down the kids very quickly while entertaining them almost the entire time. The environment is pretty interesting and the beer I had was good, so I think this place would be fun to visit for a few drinks and to relax on the deck. Went to listen to 5 bands in the Basement. $10 per person. Ordered 2 tap beers up stairs. One round $19 WOW! Went to the basement ordered a Coors light bottle, good price $3.00 but was sitting on the counter, so was not cold. Then the bartender wanted me to pour it in to a plastic cup. I asked why she said she wanted to keep glass off the cement floor. Multiple people came up after me and she made no mention of pouring their bottled beer in to a plastic cup. Why me & not everyone? Outside dining may have swayed me with an extra star, some of the outside dining is not under shade although is a good spot if traveling with a dog. Outside dining is first come first serve for those tables. Not quick to refill drinks or beers. Appetizer of white fish was beautiful, with only 60% edible due to clumps of excessive breading. Food was fine, but it is pretty bad when you walk in only to find the waitresses sitting at a small table next to the bar absorbed with their phones. We sat down and had menus in short order but then perhaps 10-15 minutes went by before we were finally waited on and it was a very slow day. When my wife got up to go to the bathroom she found the three waitresses still engrossed with their phones rather than paying attention to customers. A group of 5 got sat right before us. 2 minutes later the hostess/ waitress walked up to us and said "just so you know our kitchen is closed" At 715pm on a Saturday? Other people were still ordering. Service was good not great, definitely not engaging. The beer was cold and there it was quiet enough to have a conversation without screaming. Everyone except us appeared to be local and they were friendly. There's a TV over the bar if there is something you want to watch. We didn't have anything to eat, but there were folks having an early dinner so I suspect that it has to be pretty good. Lots of parking out front, and they also have a place to eat outside when the weather is a little warmer (July!?). I don't even know where to begin. I'm so disappointed I paid for what I got. First, my drink had a dead fruit fly and 2 rotten lime wedges in it. Rotten. Lime wedges. When I removed the limes, fruit flies disburse from the rotten limes. I set the drink aside and waiting for my waitress to come back to take our order. I showed her the dead bug, and the rotten limes. She was surprised by the dead bug, but you could tell she had hoped I wouldn't notice the rotten limes. I said "can I have another without the lime since they are rotten?"Her reply, "oh, I can cut up a fresh one". . Second, there were soooo many dead bugs in the windows. The place was dank and very sticky. And to top it off I fought 4 flies and several fruit flies for my meal. I was better off eating outside. Third, the food was fine. We're locals (Paradise area) and stopped here with some friends for dinner and drinks a few weeks back on a Saturday afternoon. Now don't let some of the higher ratings fool you as this place needs some serious tuning up. As you walk in you'll immediately see "stuff" scattered around the band stage, a back room which reminds me of my grandpa's old work shop and an overall atmosphere which feels like your in lower quarters of an old sailing ship. This was only because we had plenty of time to scope everything out given that several of the gals pretended to be too busy to address our party of eight (8). Eventually we were told we could sit wherever we wanted (really) and it was nice out so we sat outside and down on the deck under the cover of an old torn tarp which was covered with seagull shit as were our chairs. No big deal for us but to some downstate touron's who's noses are pointed up it would be a showstopper. Our server was prompt, took our drink and appetizer order and was off. Shortly the drinks arrived as did the appetizers (deep fried whitefish bites, deep fried pickles & poutine) which were all good. We all ordered the deep fried whitefish dinners and more drinks (beers and Long Island Ice Tea's). When the meals came out you could tell that whoever dropped the whitefish in the deep fryer had forgotten about them as the batter had that "start to blacken" look and the meat was pretty dried out. The French fries were okay though. The Long Island Ice Tea's made up for the sketchy and overpriced whitefish meals however as they were served in the largest beer mugs that I have ever seen and they were beyond potent (and we're boozers)! After a few of these monsters several of us were ready for the hammock... If you go, just order the appetizers, skip the meal, have a couple top shelf Long Islands and forget where your at. Pickles is not the place to go if you're looking for quality, but more to get the job done (getting drunk). We came here immediately after moving across the country as one of the closer things to us at the time. He ordered a BLT and a beer, and I ordered a grilled cheese, a bowl of potato soup, and a mixed drink. The bartender was somewhat friendly but focused more on the barflies at the end of the bar than anything else, including refilling drinks or serving. His BLT was incorrect and missing ingredients, they put raw white onion on it for some reason as well as cheese, which just made it odd in general. Everything tasted dated, old, and like the people cooking the food had never tasted the food before, but were guessing what it might be. My potato soup was a watery beef broth with chunks of potatoes and mushrooms, which I've never seen before in potato soup and am allergic to, which sucked to find out after I ordered. The grilled cheese was also no good, they used somehow too much American cheese or velveeta to where it was suffocating and plastic-y to try eating. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it unless you're looking to get super wasted and maybe meet some locals, but still feel there are better options available. read more

Nice outdoor seating overlooking the bay and the feisty games of cornhole being played on the grass below. Smoking is allowed on the patio only. We ordered fried fresh Great Lake Whitefish and it was wonderful. Nice, light tempura-style breading, mine on a bun with lettuce and tomato, my husband's served fish & chips style. We also had the option to have it pan fried or blackened, instead of deep fried. Although we didn't order any, several customers beside us ordered Poutine and it looked wonderful. Pickles is a must when in brimley. The location is great and our bartender was nice and happy to help. She shared stories and listened to ours. Pickle backs are a must when here! The fried pickle spears were as expected hot and crispy fried pickles. Also got the whitefish bites which were very tasty as well. Pickles! My family and I were staying at a VRBO rental in Bay Mills. We've been to the area countless times and always said " we'll have to try that place sometime". OMG! Why did we wait so long! Fist off if your a Michigander and have never made it to the UP or Upper Peninsula then shame on you. It's one of the many beautiful, scenic, peaceful and extraordinarily special places in this great State . I have been going to the UP for 29 years now thanks to my family and in laws. I truly have been spoiled by the serenity and uniqueness of the beauty of the land up here. Well in addition to that and more great sites to see in the UP you can stop off at Pickles Bar and Grill on your travels. You get a great view of White Fish Bay, a choice of hundreds of beers, well stocked bar, and a very nice bar menu. This place is Pure UP and Pure Michigan! The lumber used to build the place are from the trees cleared by the owner on the property. The fresh white fish on the menu from the UP area as well. The food well I had the White Fish Tacos that were delicious and very filling, my buddy had hot deli sandwich ( ok I forgot the exact thing but I put in the picture ) both were very good and even-though fries were not homemade like I normally prefer ( 5 guys fries are awesome in my book) these were complimentary to our dishes, Fresh cut would be better. I know it's the UP truffle fries wouldn't fit in either so let's be real. Then to top it off you gotta have a "Pickle Back" Shot Everything was great so stop on by Pickles enjoy the scenic view and food. Lastly - don't speed through the area your on the Reservation so be careful, if you like to gamble see the casino just down the road or shoot a round of Golf at Wild Bluffs one Michigan's most scenic and challenging hidden gem golf courses. Then go back home down below we don't want to loose the tranquility of the UP by more people moving in up here. A group of four of us went here for supper after hiking to frozen waterfalls in the Munising area. I had the special which was the whitefish parmigiana! It came with a really nice salad, fried potatoes and carrots! The potatoes were thinly sliced with onions and the carrots had some brown sugar and butter, all were very good! The whitefish was the best. Crispy top and not over cooked fish. I am going back the next time I am in town. Two of our party had burgers and loved them. The last person had the fish and fries. The place seemed fun and friendly. We walked in, grabbed a table, was approached at a decent time. Drinks and food came in a timely manner. My husband had the Cesar wrap. Said it was the lowest class food he has ever had. No cheese, no dressing, bland tasting and dry. My kids had pizza. The cheese wasn't even melted. It was just microwaved pizza. Gross. I had a salad. They were out of blue cheese and feta, but my salad was still alright. When the restaurant was at half capacity (covid), they put a sign on the door that said they were at half capacity and people had to wait to come in. Well while that sign was up, nobody left the restaurant and 6 more people came in and were seated. The staff had masks, only one lady I saw actually wearing it. My husband was very happy with his burger...I ordered the whitefish sandwich(for sure going to be fresh)...well it might have been fresh, but it was so overcooked I couldn't tell. Pickles is a warm, fun restaurant/bar that serves good food with a beautiful view of Waiskey Bay. In summer, there are plenty of tables outside, with birdsong for background. Positives: Once we ordered our crab dip appetizer, it came to us almost immediately and was really good. Negatives: We walked in to a sign that said "Seat Yourself" - it was very busy and we couldn't see any empty tables so we asked the bartender if he knew of any empty tables in the restaurant and he said "Doubt you'll find anything right now, you're gonna have to wait at least 5-10 minutes." So we did. About 10 minutes later he says over the bar "there's an empty table in the back room if you want to head back to that one." Not knowing how quickly we'd get a waitress, we grabbed a couple of menus sitting by the bar and head back to our table (which wasn't cleaned off). We sat for probably 10-15 minutes with no waitress and finally the bartender himself comes over (in a rush), cleans off our table and says "I'll just have to take your order myself, what can I get you?" He realizes the only thing he has to write on is someone else's check, so he just flips it over and writes on the back of it. We order our appetizer, drinks (I asked him about a particular cider and he says "I don't know, I don't like cider."), and meals. He brings the appetizer and drinks out right away which as I mentioned above, was the only positive. About 15 minutes later he comes back and says "I'm going to have a waitress take over to wait on you, she just got here." What really annoyed us about this guy was that he never once apologized or offered an explanation as to why things were out of whack. Finally about 10 minutes later the waitress comes over and takes our refill drink orders and brings them rather quickly, so we're thinking maybe she'll just redeem our visit. But then we wait, and we wait, and we wait. We don't see our waitress for a half hour/45 minutes (literally), and by this time we hear at least 3 other tables around us complaining about why they don't have their food yet. We had ordered chicken fingers and a reuben sandwich and wondered what in the heck was taking so long??? Finally after being there an hour and 45 minutes, the waitress comes over and apologizes for the food taking so long (our drinks had been LONG gone by the time she came back) and says she'll go check on our meals, and can she get us some chips and salsa on the house. About 5 minutes later she returns with our meals. We had been there for TWO HOURS at this point. We told her we needed more ketchup as we had an empty bottle and she never brought one. After eating our food quickly (now 9:25 p.m.), we asked the bus-girl at the next table to have the waitress bring us our check so we could get out of there. I can't even comment on the food, it was okay, but I honestly think it would've tasted better if it came with better service and a better atmosphere. I understand they were busy and short on help, but Pickles needs to learn how to be prepared for these situations and put their customers first.
