It is worth mentioning that the fries came in at an extra $3.95 which I thought to be steep for French fries. When my food had arrived, it did not have the fries I ordered, so I let the waitress know who was very nice and not only took off the extra charge from the fries but also got me an order of the fries. The gyro was delicious, but as a fan of gyros, I'm not sure I'd get it again. There were a lot of bites with the pita, sauce, and veggies rather than the meat. Additionally, any bite I had with meat in it was a mouthful and had trouble chewing at times (due to the size of the beef tips). The pretzel poppers were phenomenal, especially with that spicy ranch. They were almost like fried cheese curds but with pretzel as the breading. My girlfriend said her wings were good and couldn't finish them all. Overall, the price, service, and food are exceptional and I will confidently say that this is one of the best places to eat in the area and I will be coming back again to try some of their other options.

Our destination was Mackinac Island, and our ferry would be ready for boarding in about an hour, so we looked for nearby restaurants. We selected Dixie Saloon Brewery, which is located across the parking lot from where we would catch Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry. The Dixie Saloon is spacious, with a high ceiling and rustic décor. Included in the multiple themes decorating the place are towers to which all manner of currency has been fixed, suggesting years of the accumulation of real paper money. Between the four of us we shared a basket of onion rings ($9.99) and fries ($8.99) - they're on the menu featuring side dishes, but they easily fed the four of us. I had a Kentucky Mule (Bulleit Bourbon and ginger beer, $12), so our bill came to $46, which included state sales tax and a 3.5% Michigan administrative sustainability fee. Not a bad bill for lunch for the four of us. Service was great on a very busy Tuesday afternoon, and noise levels were moderate, allowing for easy inside-voices conversations. The waffle fries and onion rings came out within 20 minutes of our ordering them, drinks even sooner. They were piping hot and perfectly seasoned, with servings large enough that we didn't finish them by the time our ferry was starting to board. In my opinion it felt like it was one step away from closing. I did not feel the same positivity in the restaurant, it just felt flat. I got the rancher skillet which had 4 eggs which I got over easy. The sausage gravy was runny and the eggs were pretty runny which made for an unappealing dish. Not sure if I would give this place another shot, but prices were reasonable. Hopefully they find help and get back some positive momentum.
