I needed a ride in Catskill, and this is literally the only option in the area (Uber and Lyft exist…read moreup here, but there are no drivers). Thankfully, Pronto isn't exploiting this seeming monopoly, they've just got nice local dudes that'll pick you up and take you where you need to go for a decent price. I was surprised that the first time I got a driver from Pronto, he actually knew the random backwoods street my parents live on (I guess he used to take ATVs back there), and we chatted about hunting and the like. I didn't catch his name. The second dude was Danny, and he was the man. He told me all about the best Polish deli in Brooklyn to get kielbasy, where to get your Polish fix in the Valley, and was just an all around great guy. So give Pronto a call if you need a ride in the area, and go to Nassau Meat Market in Greenpoint to get the real deal kielbasy, Danny and his family have been going there for decades, and he swears by it.

They were very reasonably priced as well. We are used to New York where it is quick and easy to get cabs, and had to figure out that we need to give ourselves a bit of a window since it could take a while for them to be available if they are busy, so I would definitely recommend anticipating ahead of time. And they close at 6 so try to plan your trips around that. But even when they gave us long-ish estimates of when they would pick us up, they seemed to arrive a little earlier than estimated which was nice. We had contacts at two other car companies but both were either too far away to be convenient or seemed to be super expensive. When we arrived in the area we were way after 6 and got a bit panicky about not being able to find a car but ended up being able to use Lyft. Every other time we tried to use Lyft, however, there was no one even on the map, so that made Woodstock Transportation an even better option.

When you're in the sticks of upstate NY you don't have a lot of choices for car service. So when we…read morewere invited to a wedding in Hillsdale NY recently, we were recommended to this company. Well, to make a long story short, they didn't show for my daughter and son in law, nor did they show for several other guests. The company stated that, in our case, no one was there to be picked up, (not true), they asked for a phone number (never did), asked for payment prior, (although they sent. an invoice, they did not specify that it needed to be paid prior, and BTW, they had my CC # anyway). My daughter and son in law needed to make last minute arrangements to spend the night. Not good business!

There are precious few options for getting to and from the train station in Wassaic, NY other than imposing on family. Rick's Reliable Rides is a solid option. Rick answered the phone, explained exactly what he needed (time and precise location of pick up and cash or Venmo payment) and was responsive by text until we met him. He was ready and waiting when we walked out the door. His car was clean and comfortable, he was friendly but not overly talkative and drove safely without wasting any time. Earlier in the day, when the high for the crisp sunny day was 13F, we were trying to get from the Metro North station at Wassaic to a town 40 minutes away. Fortunately Metro North has a little waiting room with a very cold cement floor but a powerful heater you can activate for five or ten minutes at a clip. We stood there and waited for a Lyft for almost an hour, counting down the minutes until the Driver's Details would be revealed. But after counting down to 1 minute, we got "just a few more seconds" for five or so minutes and then the whole history of our request for a ride simply evaporated. It was replaced by a screen saying "Hello, Anne! Where would you like to go?" At this point we called on the family we were going to visit. Lyft gets an F in our book. Rick's Reliable Rides gets an A+.
