As someone who works professionally in comics and illustration, comic book stores are akin to a blood pressure machine: It's where I go to engage with my industry, check its pulse and lifeblood, and this place has been an ideal solution for all of the above. Anything that isn't on their very generous rack of new releases can be very easily ordered/subscribed to, with the added benefit of a 10% subscriber discount. They also have a very good selection of graphic novels and collected trade editions, both new and used. My only complaint is that I have to drive a long @$$ way to get there--*deep sigh* I live in North Idaho--but this store has been a tentpole to my continued sanity. North Idaho, as its name implies, doesn't put a lot of value on entertainment arts and culture (in my experience). Having a place like this even remotely nearby (about 2 hours drive from my house, but only 20 minutes from my work at North Idaho College) has helped make life worth living for me. I don't know that it's the only shop of its kind up this way, but it is certainly the best.

First off, I was greeted the moment I walked into this joint and immediately told about their…read moremonthly special. That was refreshing as hell because lately, when I walk into comic book stores, I'm lucky if someone even acknowledges my existence! The place was decorated pretty damn cool, too. They even had a little nook with a TV playing Halloween movies and a freaking Nintendo 64 set up! Talk about nostalgia! Now, let me tell you something... This joint took me back to a simpler time, when comic book stores were the real deal and not some soulless, commercialized, franchise sellout pretending to be one. I felt like a freaking kid again! The dude behind the register was crazy knowledgeable, and I even watched him working out deals with another customer. THAT'S THE SHIT I'M TALKING ABOUT! A comic book store run by real fans, for real fans! None of that corporate nonsense! Now for the prices... HOLY SHIT! The prices here are freaking amazing! I'm talking slabs, new issues, classic comics, and collectibles! I've been to other comic book stores where the prices are worse than eBay or Whatnot. Not here! I picked up two slabs for a hell of a deal, and even the collectibles were reasonably priced. My wife probably wishes I never found this place! Overall, THIS JOINT IS DOPE! And keep in mind, I ONCE SAW A CIGAR-SMOKING PIG RIDING A UNICYCLE IN THE BACK OF A MISSOURI TRUCK STOP! So believe me when I say, I've seen some pretty incredible shit in my lifetime, and this comic book store is right up there! If you're in the neighborhood, do yourself a favor and stop by. Whether you're a lifelong comic book nerd, a collector, or just someone looking to relive the glory days, this place is the real freaking deal!
