My husband and I didn't make plans for dinner on a Saturday night in a terme town which was probably a bad idea. We found this spot and when they asked us if we had reservations and we said "no" they conferred with each other and then decided that if we could finish our dinnner in an hour we were welcome to someone elses later reserved table.
One thing I absolutely love about Italy is that, in general, the table is yours for the night. They are used to Americans not staying nearly as long as Italians and will make exceptions for you so that you can enjoy their restaurant. Plus it's just a win win situation for them and us.
I had a fantastic steak with grilled veggies, and my husband loved his chicken with a creamy mushroom sauce. We had a coffee and were on our way with a few minutes to spare before the actual owners of the table for the evening arrived.
