If you want a cool vibe and aesthetic for date night, this place ticks the boxes for a great night out at the movies - especially in the boutique when all other gold class cinemas feel aged, dirty and just a bit seedy. Just eat before you go!! The food was so bad even the kids weren't into it. This was opening week for the boutique so I expected better. Wallis Picadilly oddly feels like it's an older cinema complex, but it's not so long ago since it was renovated - I guess it's fair to say that the 'art deco' styling has been effective. I was a little disappointed to find that the Picadilly doesn't offer frozen slushies as drinks - maybe that's just in their competitor cinemas, or maybe it's a choice here at the Picadilly, but the frozen red slushie is a big part of my cinema ritual - I can stay home and watch a dvd on a big screen if I just want a big cup of diet coke - oh, yeah, where's the Coke Zero, too??? The complex is very clean, and the seats were uber comfortable - particularly compared to the somewhat cattle class seating in a megaplex, there was as much leg room here as there is in my Statesman. Nothing quite like the Gold Class offerings of the competitors, but you can get a good meal and movie package here, too. Sound was good, crisp, loud and clear - I didn't really feel a full surround sound experience here, but that may well have been the movie - "We Bought a Zoo" isn't the latest action blockbuster either :) Ticket prices... well... they're fair... I personally think all cinema's are overpriced for what they offer these days, but when they're all overpriced you get to live with it, right?? For the same price for a family of four we could have bought two full price DVD's and had them forever... why am I going to the cinema again?? read more

With so many independent cinemas in decline, seeing this gem well loved by so many warms the heart. Big, comfy seats with high backs. Lots of legroom and you're not left staring at the back of someone's head. All in all what you would expect from a new cinema. Except the Piccadilly retains its 1940s art deco vibe. The orange stained glass windows and royal red carpets ooze old-time charm. And it's noticeably well staffed. Dinner and a flick? Local restaurants often sell movie tickets for $10 with your meal. On street parking is free. If you can't find any on O'Connell you may have to hunt along the residential roads. Don't park where you shouldn't--the parking inspectors are vigilant. The only drawback, and you know this is coming, is the screens are relatively small. But did I mention the Piccadilly has its own spire? What modern cinema can say that? For the stylish service, fine atmosphere and fair prices I give the Piccadilly 5/5 Buttered Popcorns. read more

I go to this cinema for its atmosphere, to see the same movies I'd see at any standard cinema. The special thing about Piccadilly is its gorgeous old feeling, like you've walked back into the 1920s and should be wearing feathers. Every surface is covered in either a rich material or a fancy stone facade. There are red velvet curtains beside the screens and your seat is upholstered in matching material. The Candy Bar here is gorgeous, though expensive. It's a lovely place to sit while you wait. The upstairs cinema is cavernous, and gets quite chilly. This is a great place to watch anything epic and dramatic. The downstairs cinemas are smaller but I find them comfortable and still enjoyable. The prices here are quite reasonable, especially for students, so treat yourselves to Adelaide's Moulin Rouge of cinemas for a little fun. read more

Cool older cinema located in the heart of North Adelaide, Piccadilly has 3 cinemas, 1 grand one upstairs and 2 small one downstairs. The upstairs cinema is often used by schools, events, charity and functions because it has a lot of space up the front on the floor and plenty of seating. Lovely stairs lead the way to the door with a traditional usher holding a torch. The toilets are a highlight also, with large carpeted waiting area with lounge chairs and giant mirrors. The 2 cinemas downstairs are tiny, uncomfortable,small screened and have an aisle in the middle so you can't sit smack bang centre screen. With lots more modern cinema experiences around now with gold class, 3D and extremescreen, Piccadilly and other Wallis cinemas often get overlooked. Honestly I overlook them too, and would only go as a novelty in the big upstairs cinema. read more

Our local cinema, and now that all but one (?) of the cinemas in the city have closed it's important this one sticks around! Sometimes I wish they showed more of a range of movies, but they only have 3 screens and obviously try to maximise them with the most popular movies. This place has such an old charm about it. I have friends who held their wedding here recently too - it's that cool a place. Buy a book of cinesavers and save yourself some money. I believe it's $115 for 10 tickets. read more

A beautiful cinema that makes going to the movies a real experience. Full to the brim with old world charm, the Piccadilly cinema is a great place to catch the latest film because although the theatre may be old school, the screens and sound are pretty decent and many of the latest blockbusters are on offer - albeit with not as many sessions as the bigger multi-plex places. The cinema has always been very clean and tidy every time I have visited and the candy bar well stocked and reasonably priced! The boyfriend doesn't like that it is difficult to find a park in the bustling area of North Adelaide, but I think he should just suck it or next time, we'll ride our bikes there! read more

I absolutely love going to see a movie at Wallis Piccadilly. The interior is so beautiful, which really creates a beautiful cinema experience - I particularly like the red patterned carpet and the grand staircase. The staff always seem friendly and really professional. The ticket prices are reasonable, and it's always nice to support South Australian owned businesses. There is quite a range in the candy bar, which really completes the cinema experience. Piccadilly is in a great location, it's perfect for having dinner before the movie at North Adelaide. Also, parking is never really an issue for us, we always seem to find a space on the road. This is my favourite cinema in South Australia - I always look forward to a visit to Piccadilly! read more

There is something about the Picadilly Cinemas that I adore, the historic building holds old world charm that you cannot get in your typical mainstream cinemas. The ornate furnishing, grand staircase, stained glass windows, even the toilets with its huge powder room were a highlight! I also enjoy having a chat with the attentive, friendly staff - whether at the counter buying my tickets, purchasing snacks or greeted by the usher - the whole experience oozes class and old fashion charm. Which is very rare to find anywhere else, sure the screen isn't as big or you might not get the best surround sounds but it sure is a hell lot cleaner, and the ambiance is perfect for a classic movie night. Located on busy O'Connell street, having a meal or drink before a movie is a must-do! Keep it classy people! read more

I normally love this cinema - the Art Deco charm, usually friendly staff and ease of access to the two ground floor cinemas make it one of our first choices for any movie. But our treatment just recently will make me think again about returning. My husband and I went to the movies for a way to take a little time out from the Christmas mayhem three days before Christmas. We'd decided to see a preview of Pitch Perfect 3 (obviously my choice). As I have a Companion Card (I'm a disabled pensioner) we weren't able to book online and so had to buy them at the cinema. However I had checked the time online to make sure we were there on time. What wasn't shown online was that the preview was actually a "Girls Night Out" event! So not only was the ticket more expensive than normal (despite the prices shown as regular price online), but my husband was laughed at by the Box Office staff member - seriously, not cool and very unprofessional. I bought the tickets and went to the Candy Stand to buy some drinks. It was only at that point that I was informed (by a more professional junior staff member) that the movie was up three flights of stairs and there was no disabled access. It was deemed too late to have our ticket refunded - but also, thanks to falsely advertising the start time as 7pm instead of 8pm, I had enough time to slowly manoeuvre the stairs. So now both of us were embarrassed at least! The whole experience just hurt. We were trying to escape Christmas due to a death in the family, and to be belittled and embarrassed made us not want to go out in public again for a long time! read more

Located at the very end of O'Connell St, Piccadilly Cinema's transports the movie goer back in time. The décor is decadent with loads of heavy crimson drapes and spindly high backed chairs in the candy bar area, with all furniture covered in beautifully designed fabrics. There is a range of food you can order before or after the movie including share platters and yummy looking desserts. Despite this, the cinemas themselves uphold the same look as any other, but I quite like the old fashioned feeling they invoke. It is without the fancy, modern technology that fills other cinema yet still offers a traditional movie experience. They show all the new release movies, but you may miss out on some of the VMAX or 3D experiences if that is what you are looking for. The prices are also reasonable compared to other, bigger chains, especially if you use a student or concession card to receive a discount. However, like any cinema the prices in the candy bar are outrageous but I feel this could be dictated by the Wallis franchise behind the cinema, rather than Piccadilly themselves. read more

The first time I saw the Wallis Picadilly cinema from the outside, I was abit reluctant to go and watch a movie there. I'd already been exposed to the likes of Hoyt's and Greater Union Cinemas (Now called Event Cinemas) so when I saw Picadilly I thought it looked abit run down. Going in though, you're greeted with a comforting ambience of soft lighting and the feel that you're in a cinema reminiscent of the 50's. They have a comfortable area just after the snack bar where you can sit or enjoy a drink before the movie and a good selection of movies to choose from. Not as many as their other locations but good enough. Located along O'Connell Street as well, I feel it makes a good place for an after dinner, or even pre-dinner excursion on the weekends. The staff who work inside wear red coats which add to the atmosphere of the place and are very friendly. Inside the cinema itself, the seats are comfortable enough and you'll never have a problem finding a good place to sit as the seats don't run up all the way to the screen as they do in some cinema's. Looking so old, I was expecting the movie watching experience to be sub par, but I have to say that it is no better and no worse than watching a show, say in the likes of Hoyts or Event Cinemas in terms of image and sound quality. Sure, some might argue details, but I enjoy watching movies there and don't really feel any difference once the movie is rolling. The toilets are clean, though also as old looking as the rest of the building. Still, the Wallis Picadilly cinema is one of my preferred movie going places near the city and I will be going back there soon. Maybe to watch the new Twilight movie, who knows. That Robert Pattinson is oh so dreamy. read more
