An absolutely fab meal this evening, we had at least seven or so tapas at Picasso and enjoyed it thoroughly. Service could have been a bit more attentive but in comparison to other restaurants we've experienced in Germany this week, it was great. Beef with garlic, which was served with two potatoes in a tangy sauce was excellent. Dates wrapped in bacon, which we ordered a second time. Shrimp in garlic. Grilled peppers (my favorite). Manchego cheese was a good portion and served with apple slices. Note that they translate their Spanish menu into German. Service is top notch. Quick and friendly. They start you with a tangy aioli, olives and fresh bread. The tapas we shared were luscious grilled squid, shrimp gambas, albondigas in tomato sauce. All wonderful. Two paellas. One black squid ink with shrimps, and one yellow. Pretty much the same flavor and very bland. Not crunchy. The food was really good and the service was the best I had in Hamburg. There is both indoor and outdoor seating but I would really recommend making a reservation in advance as the tables do fill up. I had the special grilled Iberico and it was very tender and juicy. read more

Was able to snag one of the 2 tables outside to enjoy a nice dinner since the weather was very nice. Only one of the waiter at the time I arrived for dinner spoke English and took care of my table. The restaurant does not have English menus. The shrimp in garlic butter sauce was delicious. Took the bread and dipped it in the sauce to soak it up because it was so good (butter was very good as well). The fried sardines were ok. I would not order it again next time. The best, and the reason why i came here, was for the paella. The rice was cooked well and had lots of flavor. Stopped here on the recommendation of a local. I've been quite accustomed to asking "was emphalen sie?" when visiting places in Germany =) First let me talk about the service. I think I may have had 3 waiters in total haha they seemed to want to wait on me hand and foot! Also, they were all very excited to speak English to me. (So come here if you are not a German speaker!) I was conversing in German and they were answering me in English which was silly but it's cool. Secondly, the ambiance... I sat on an outdoor patio area on such a beautiful sunny day. You could hear the church bells ringing at the church across the street. There is indoor seating as well but the outdoor area is sehr schon. Lastly the food. They bring out complimentary bread and olives. With the bread came garlic butter that had the perfect spreadable consistency. I happened to have ordered the goulash, which the waiter had explained the meat was slow cooked over 2 hours. It was wonderful. I'm aware you don't tip waiters in Germany however I still feel weird doing that. I was a good American and have him a 2,50 euro tip and he then offered to bring me a complimentary drink, which I of course accepted. (Still not sure what it was.... some kind of sweet desserty liquor...) But that sealed the deal for me... bam! Funf Stars! read more

Reservation recommended and worth the effort: We arrived at 18h30 and the restaurant was full. However the server managed to accomodate the 4 of us before an 8 pm reservation. During the whole diner was service was similar: professional and friendly at the same time. The food was served quickly and all our dishes were tasty. I didn't have a reservation, but they were nice enough to squeeze me in which meant I had about an hour for dinner before they needed the table back. But I didn't feel rushed, so all good. The food was great, I've did a tapas only dinner because if you give me plenty of small options, I don't know how to order just one entree. The owner suggested me some mussels that weren't on the menu and I got 5 different ones altogether. Plenty for a full dinner unfortunately, I'd loved to try more things. One little letdown were the mussels. They tasted great but were a bit sandy (not washed carefully enough). The other little letdown was the sangria. For some reason it tasted like a cool aid version of sangria, i.e. there was a distinct flavor that was neither wine, nor fruit, nor brandy. But altogether I'd happily come back for more of their tapas. read more

We stumbled upon this gem while visiting Hamburg and couldn't have enjoyed it more! The place was packed on a Tuesday at 10pm, which is a great sign for any restaurant. The ambiance was cozy and comfortable and the food was fantastic! We tried the mussels, shrimp, albondigas and house red wine and all were great! We also tried the "Picasso Paella," which was delicious! It had shrimp, mussels, calamari, salmon and white fish on top of really good saffron rice. We'd highly recommend it! They also offered us a dessert aperitif that was a sort of caramel liquor that was a great end to the meal. The service was good and all tables around us seemed to enjoy themselves too - lots of laughing and chatter around! We'd highly recommend this great Spanish restaurant! read more

Stopped off on a Friday night around 7:30PM and although they were nearly fully booked already, they were to find a spot for my wife and I at the bar. I'd probably recommend reservations for the future, they are a busy place with a good location near the city center. After visiting Barcelona for the first time last month, the menu and the look of the restaurant really feel authentic for a Spanish tapas place. The barman (and all the staff) were really friendly and energetic. Being at the bar, we had prime spots to see everyone hustling around. We started with some sherry aperitifs and a round of tapas. The beef was seared perfectly, we had some fresh sardines with lemon, a rare lamb chop that was also seared perfectly, and of course, the patatas bravas. The menu varies based on what's in season, but the barman was quick to recommend substitutions, if something wasn't available. We did a second round of food with some rioja, they do a pretty good pour. We finished with some creme brulee and a lit shot on top. The food and drink were pretty much perfect for what I wanted and I really like the vibe of the restaurant. Prices are maybe a bit high, but I'm really happy with the experience and would definitely go back. read more

It had been a long time since I'd been to Hamburg so not having a great familiarity with places to eat I went to Yelp for help. One of the criteria I had was close to my hotel, Park Hyatt. The proximity of Picasso plus it wasn't German food and hours made the selection right. I arrived at Picasso sans reservations and the place was PACKED. Wow! The energy level and the conviviality of the guests was infectious. The owner advised me that there were no reservations available but if I were willing to wait 20 minutes they could seat me at the bar (my best choice anyway). So I waited. Loved the atmosphere and the other people at the bar. Since there wasn't an English menu available, I relied on the owner to make my selections. Some beef, some spicy sausage, some croquets....... wow! This is a place that should be on your must visit list when you are in Hamburg. Tired of Hamburgers yet? Latin Food Found Here! Very good Latin food for Germany. This is a rare commodity and worth a foodies try. Chicken (expected mojo) and Fish was good, just very light on seasoning across the board. Patatas Bravas were anything but in terms of flavor/seasoning. Chorizo and Croquettes were our highlights. No rice served with the chicken? Perhaps I'm unfamiliar with this region of Latin food they prepare. I'd give it $$$ in terms of price to portion. This is a small restaurant, narrow path to navigate through the restaurant. Appears to have plenty of street parking depending on the hour of the day. The staff was friendly and attentive paying special attention for our friend who does not consume pork products. They clearly understand and points out which tapas dish contains pork. They have an all you can eat tapas menu but it limits you from choosing the expensive dishes. Fantastic wine list to choose from for you enjoyment. You kind of forget how much one consumes and before you know it, you are more than full. The garlic avocado spread for your bread was amazing. One of my favorite dishes was the clams, shrimp, ham and melon. I wasn't crazy about the dish of aweets but the flan was very tasty. Great place to talk and eat, you are never rushed. read more

This is hand down the best tapas I have had in my life. The staff is amazing and takes care of doing a good selection for the guest with a few inputs. They also will suggest you a good Spanish wine to go along. I stay in US and visited this restaurant for a business trip. I love this food so much that now Hamburg is on our list to travel as a family just to try out their food. We wandered into this place as we were looking for dinner around the area after watching a show. The place was pretty busy and since we did not make a reservation the only place available was at the bar which was fine by us. We were seated promptly and started with some aperitifs. The waiter at the bar was very nice, friendly and gave us some great recommendations on what to drink and eat! We naturally ordered a couple of tapas and kept a menu just in case we wanted more. As we waited for our tapas we had complimentary bread and aioli to nibble on in the meantime. I love the aioli! I can probably eat the whole bread basket with this dip by myself and that would be my dinner! I love the ambiance here and the meaty tapas we ordered were very good! For 2 people, 2 or 3 tapas, sharing an entree and a dessert would be enough. Don't forget theres bread and aioli! I did ask for another cup of the aioli too! Soo Good! Good varied tapas, but stay away from the sangria! First, the food: the padron peppers were beautifully cooked and served with plenty of salt; all very mild, no hot ones in the mix. The fried calamari was quite good. Hadn't expected the mussels to be stuffed and broiled --- came out too close to the fried offerings, and maybe to breaded. The artisanal sheep's milk cheese sounded great, but came out much like other breaded-and-fried cheese sticks. Finally, the Serrano ham was tender and rich. Overall, the tapas were good, but I ended up with far more fried offerings than I'd planned --- I'll read more carefully next time, and maybe ask for some clarification. And, finally, the sangria. Seemed like a safe bet for a tapas place, and had fresh-cut fruit floating in it, but I'm not convinced it was even wine-based --- it really tasted more like a powdered drink mix. Didn't finish the first glass out of our pitcher. As long as you have better luck with beverages than I did, Picasso can work out. read more

This charming tapas restaurant is a favorite during my time working near Ballindamm. Everyone from my office would go here when we had the time to enjoy a two hour lunch! I really enjoyed most of the meats and seafood finger bites, I can honestly say that everything I have tried was tasty. Prices are not inexpensive but also not too expensive, but when you are with friends and sharing the bill, a few bottles of red wine and ordering everything off the tapas menu is the way to go! This is also a great spot to practice your Spanish and often the same restaurant where many Spanish speaking expats frequent, so that is always a good sign of authenticity in flavors if it actually attracts and is popular with several Bolivians, Argentinians, Mexicans and Brazilians that I know living in Hamburg. read more

I went to Picasso for the first time with a group of coworkers. As we were a large group, it was nice that restaurant was able to accommodate us. While waiting for our orders, we had an endless supply of fresh baguette, garlic butter and olives at our table. I'm pretty sure I ate an entire baguette's worth of bread. I ordered from the lunch menu - Rindergulasch, cooked in the Spanish style. Really delicious beef stew like with cooked potatoes, peppers and some more veggies. This is the first Spanish food I've had in Hamburg that I really enjoyed. It's great food with great prices. I'm definitely planning on bringing my family here next time they're in town! read more

Came here on my last night in Hamburg, as I was tired of traditional German food and was looking for a great tapas place. I had actually looked it up on Yelp the night before, but being in Germany, it of course wasn't open on Sunday. Therefore, we made an effort to try it the next night. We didn't have a reservation when we arrived, but the staff there were very accommodating and said that we could have a table if we were gone by 8:30 (it was 6:30). This ended up not being necessary because once we started ordering, they said that we could have our table as long as we wanted :). Anyway, the service here is great and they are keen to point out some dishes you don't want to miss. We had two bottles of red (can't remember the name but it was 21 euros) and it was a great wine. Some of my favourite tapas were: bacon wrapped dates, shrimps in oil, and the goat cheese with berry sauce. Overall, this was a good place to go if you're looking to move away from the heavy German food. read more

Amazing. I'm Spanish so I can definitely tell you this is a must. True Spanish. I took my parents in law there, they absolutely loved it. We had about 6-8 tapas plates, which is good for a group of 4, and a bottle of wine. I recommend the Navajas, croquetas and the tuna. Definitely make a reservation. read more
