Warning that this shop will NOT tune or help diagnose any issues with your piano if you decide to buy a piano elsewhere after visiting them. Sam called me a couple weeks after my visit to check if I was still interested in some grands I looked at and I told him that I had made a purchase elsewhere. He proceeded to use scare tactics to try to get to buy from him. Once he learned that I had already made the purchase and I asked for him to tune the piano he refused to send his technicians to tune or look at the piano. Not a good business model. You're better off buying a piano elsewhere and if you're forced to work with them, be very wary of their scare tactics. EDIT: After seeing the owner's response to my google review, I have removed an additional star. Anyone reading this review need not read further than the owner's response to see their attitude towards potential customers. Truly a shame as they have a lot of potential. read more

I really wanted to like Piano Works. I own one of the largest recording studios in the area. We have two grand pianos in the studio and occasionally they need some work done. Our main recording piano developed a sticking G below middle C key. The problem developed late in the week and I didn't call Piano Works until the next day. They were closed at the time and I left them a voicemail. I then waiting for the next four days for them to call. With a session coming up I needed to get the piano fixed so I gave them a call. I told the woman that answered the phone that I left a message a few days ago. She laughed and confirmed she hadn't gotten back to me. I explained the problem and she immediately told me that it wouldn't be as cheap as last time. What? She said the last time the guy came out they charged me $50 and this time it would be double. (I'll get into the previous situation in a minute). She then tried to sell me on a piano tuning. When I explained that we didn't need tuning just a repair she seemed to have gotten flustered as she went into a speech telling me how busy they were and that's why there were slow at responding. I'm sorry but this is a piano store, not an Apple store. I'm not going to believe for one second that a piano shop was so busy on the phones that they couldn't return my call after four days. The guy that came out was good and knowledgeable. Hi name was Patrick and he just does contract work for them on the side so I have nothing but good things to say about him. This is why they didn't get a one star review. This was not the first time this had happened. The last time I had a similar problem I left a message and it again was about four days before I finally called them. This seems to be a very bad pattern for them. In this instance they charged me $50 which I felt was a good price considering the came and fixed it within about ten minutes and was out the door. I just think it's bad business practice to double the fee for no apparent reason. Finally, on both occasions my appointment was pretty much the following day, which was good. But it doesn't lend itself to the excuse of being overly busy. read more

This store is so incredible and I just had the time of my life! To be able to finally play a Bosendorfer (the finest piano in the world) for the first time in my life was always a dream of mine. To see five Bosendorfer pianos lined up in a row was just absolutely incredible! Just being able to go from one to the other and try them all out, I was able to point out the subtle differences between them. No two pianos are alike and a musician must learn to feel how an instrument responds and make adjustments accordingly. It's much like driving a car. Each steering wheel and brake pedal are different, and you vary the amount of brake pressure or amount of steering according to the way the car responds. With a piano, the musician must adjust his dynamics, vary the amount of sustain, and voice the melody according to the way it feels and sounds, rather than the way they've learned to play their own instrument. Friends, let me tell you how a Bosendorfer sounds and feels different than other instruments to me. The range of dynamics is incredible. I can play these pianos softer than any other piano, and always get the tone I was wanting. The forte is available, and the fortissimo is incredibly pure. What do you do when you are already at fortissimo, and you still need to accent the melody? The Bosendorfer has the ability to do that and much more! They seemed limitless. The tones were so warm and pure, and the singing voice was so beautiful. I felt like I had so much control over these instruments. It was a great experience and it is another achievement in my musical education. It really meant so much to me to be able to have this experience, and I can't thank you guys enough! I also played a really nice Steinway, and a few brands I've never really heard of. This store sells brand new and used pianos and digital pianos. There is a wide variety to suit the needs of any musician and his budget. Best of all, if you start off with one piano, this store will apply your entire purchase price back toward an upgrade trade in, so it will hold its value as long as you own it, provided of course you keep it maintained. Pianos are very complex machines and require a great amount of skill and experience to keep them operating properly. The manufacturer builds it, but your technician is really the person responsible for how well it works. I'll tell you from my experience here, that they must use the finest and most knowledgeable technicians in the region. Even their used instruments were in top condition. Even if you already own a piano, I would highly recommend these guys for tuning, upkeep, maintenance, regulation, voicing, rebuilding, and even restorations. I met Sam, Derek, and Linda here. Derek is an incredible pianist himself, not to say the others are not, I only heard Derek play. Sam eats, sleeps, and breathes pianos and he gave me so much information and knowledge. He knows not only how they work, but he really knows the worldwide industry. I doubt there's a piano fact that he doesn't know. Finally, I talked to Linda, and she is also very knowledgeable and accommodating. These are such friendly, genuine people, and that is so important because buying a piano is only the beginning of a relationship with this store. This is a piano store. You will not find guitars or drums or any of that nonsense here. No PA equipment, no band instruments, and no amplifiers. This is a good thing because it just means they excel at what they do, which is pianos. There are teachers and practice rooms. There is an auditorium and another sales floor downstairs. Best of all, they have a recital hall with seating for 120 people! It is such an essential part of becoming a musician to be able to perform for others, that it's nearly as important as all the hours of practice. The recital hall is also a great place to record, host a concert, or just a great place to go listen to some great talent. Family run business and they have been in the piano business their whole life. Don and Sam Bennett know their stuff. Downstairs they have used pianos and pianos they are restoring. Had an event at my house at the end of August and needed a Keyboard. The pianist approved the Yamaha P-105 and it sounded great. The rental price was very affordable and everyone said it sounded great and did not overpower the singer. We did have a slight problem, where we could not lower the stand for the keyboard, which made the bench too low, but we improvised. I'm sure if we contacted Linda or anyone at PianoWorks it would have been rectified, but we did not know, till concert night. All in all a great experience and one of the few places where you can rent a keyboard/piano. Will be back. read more

I have only good things to say about my experience at PianoWorks. I was there to buy a digital piano, and I had a limited but somewhat flexible budget. Derek Vann helped me to understand the distinctions between the digital pianos, without pushing too hard on the most expensive models. I ended up getting a Yamaha that I love. Although we live in Denver, we were shopping for a piano for our kids who live in Sugar Hill GA. After doing quite a bit of research we visited Piano Works last Wednesday and were totally impressed with both the selection and the expertise of the staff. I studied at the University of Toronto-Royal Conservatory of Music so do know a bit about pianos. We purchased a Casio Digital Piano (AP-450) which was delivered to our kids home Friday afternoon right on schedule.
