My daughters started orchestra in the 4th grade and continued through the 11th grade. When looking for a rental option for a violin, we were directed to Atlanta Violins in Roswell. We were able to rent a violin for one of my daughters and obtain upgrades to larger violins as she outgrew each instrument. After we had rented a violin for some time, we were able to apply the rental money towards the purchase of a violin for her. My daughter graduated from high school a few years back, and she recently decided she wanted to play her old violin again. We took it into Atlanta Violin, and they made a number of minor modifications for free. They only charged us to re-hair the bow. Matt was the person who helped us, and he provided great customer service. He is friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. In addition, they are taking extra precaution to avoid the spread of COVID-19. They require face masks, and they check the temperatures of everybody who enters the store. I had a broken viola...haven't played it in 10 years or so...when I was younger (high school) that viola played with several orchestras, was first chair in my high school orchestra, played in the Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra... This was my "best friend" from around middle school to my senior year of High School...we were together a LOT. My viola had a crack on its face. The sound post needed adjustment. I desperately needed new strings and a bow re-hair (or a new bow). So after deciding to pick it up again I had to shop around to find someone who would and could repair my poor broken best friend. My family have been customers with them for going on two decades. When we were growing up we had a string bass player, a cello player, a violin player and a viola player and Atlanta Violins was a frequent place we would stop in for bow repair, new rosin, a more comfortable shoulder pad, etc. The staff here area really amazing. Always helpful. They feel more like a good friend. Playing musical instruments is a personal experience and like anything else what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. I remember this one time coming in here because the shoulder pad I was using for my viola was super uncomfortable. I had been using it for quite a while even though it was uncomfortable because it was sorta pricey and I thought if I kept using it I would get use to it. I didn't. When I came in telling them what my problem was the folks here didn't try to sell me the most expensive one. in fact they sold me on one of their cheaper models and my parents were highly suspicious but it turned out to be he right one....thanks Atlanta Violins! True customer service seems to be a failing concept, so when I do receive OUTSTANDING customer service, I'm compelled to share! Our daughter just started 6th grade at a new school and showed interest in playing the violin in the school orchestra. Her father & I had been so busy trying to set her up with everything else and had no clue about violins...what type to get her, sizing, etc. and everything would need to be done over the weekend so she could start orchestra Monday with her instrument. I am a raw beginner and was in the market for a new violin bow. I had no idea what to look for and didn't have a lot of confidence in my ear to hear the difference between bows. This is very unfortunate I have to write this review but considering the times I feel I have no choice. With the severity of COVID in our area, I think it's important people are aware of the conditions prior to going to a business. We chose to come to Atlanta Violins because we absolutely love our piano teacher and her husband who works at this location. Honestly, I expected a certain level of cleanliness, professionalism, and organization based on the recommendations of the Stewarts always being equivalent in quality of their own business. This was not the case with Atlanta Violins. First, there is a sign when you arrive that clearly states everyone including staff must be wearing a mask. The office manager sat the entire time with her mask on her chin coughing and talking up a storm to another, who I presumed was an employee. The other person was also not wearing a mask and only put it on over his mouth right when he was within 2 feet of me. The office manager was also quite unkempt. I don't think it's unreasonable especially with the severity of COVID people should practice a certain level of hygiene before going out in public. Also, if a place states everyone should wear a mask, then as a consumer I don't believe it's unreasonable to expect everyone be wearing a mask around customers. Secondly, the office manager's desk is disgusting and filthy. There is no way that space is being disinfected. It would take a few hours just to clean it off and it's evident by looking at it, that's not happening which makes me question if this shop is being cleaned at all which is of high concern with COVID. I'm also 100% certain there are problems with payments being charged the correct amounts and issues with people's information out in the open for anyone to take. We have chosen to go somewhere else to buy. The only reason we will be returning to this business for anything will be to have our instrument repaired by Jerome and we will only pay in cash. read more

I was gifted a family violin from the early 1900's that had a crack in a peg hole in the scroll that needed repaired. Ehsan and Matt did a wonderful repair job. They did a "cheek" patch and it looks great! Also, the tail piece broke and Ehsan was able to repair it. OMG...my son was in heaven. The previous reviews were right in that these people know their stuff! My son was there to get new strings for his cello and they were so knowledgable in helping him find the right combo that would work with both the sound and our budget. They were very honest too on what to splurge on and what not to. My son had done a ton of research before hand so he totally agreed with everything they had said. If you come, you have to check out all of the instruments they have throughout the rest of the "house". They were all gorgeous! All different price points too. The icing on the cake was they let my son play any cello he wanted to try out something different than what he owns. He had a blast! My daughter needed a new viola after hers was crushed in an unfortunate accident. I'm so glad we made the trip from Hendersonville NC down to Atlanta, because Martha made the experience of finding the right viola so easy. What I liked most is how she really helped guide my daughter's decision rather than pushing her in a particular direction. For instance, to help my daughter hear the difference between different instruments, she would often play them herself while my daughter listened. Martha also guided her choice of a new bow and case.
