Love this place!!! They have an issue with their phone most days - you call and it loops and loops and then disconnects. You will have to go in and place your order and wait instead of calling in first. You will have to wait while your order is placed. Bummer :/ Food is excellent! Update. Hubby had to stop in and order on his way home from work. He ordered the grill soy rolls. He brought home these checked the receipt this is what he paid for. This was the absolute worst customer service I've ever received. I ordered a shrimp roll with no beef in it, I ordered it for pick up. They told me it would be ready in 20 minutes. I got to the restaurant in 25 minutes. I still waited about 10 minutes, and let them know that I was picking up my order so I sat at the bar. After sitting there for 10 minutes, one of the waiters came to me and said they made it with beef or pork in it. I specifically ordered a shrimp spring roll, which is shrimp no red meat. The waiter told me they will not remake it and they can refund my money because the spring roll comes with beef or pork in it, they don't just do shrimp, but they have the menu online with just shrimp. And I've also ordered from different locations only getting a shrimp spring roll. If it's on the menu, how can you say you cannot make it, there was no empathy and no sympathy and no type of customer service. They used to not offer broken rice but they do now and the grilled bbq meat was flavorful. It comes in a block which is northern style. Shaken beef with garlic rice was also made with broken rice. The cubed beef was soft and had the flavor but extremely chewy. Pho filet came with meatballs. Soft and thin filet. The broth was a bit salty for me but with just a few limes, I got it to my liking. This is our neighborhood pho place. We were both craving comfort food for dinner. Came in and were seated right away. Our waiter took our order and no more than 5 minutes later our food was being delivered by the robot . Our server was very attentive and took my special request regarding my noodle substitution to vermicelli noodles for the bun bo hue. I saw the reviews on Yelp prior to ordering but decided to take a chance and order the items that had the highest reviews and I'm so happy with my food. I got the filet mignon and meatball pho. The broth is delicate and well balanced. The meat is tender. It came with a large bone with marrow that was a pleasant surprise. It's a dish that doesn't need amplifying and was perfect the way it came. 10/10. I also got the grilled beef spring rolls. These are also really delicious. It came with a fish sauce that wasn't over powering and the beef was tender with such a good flavor. While I'm sad these didn't come with a peanut sauce they were still a 10/10. We ordered: vegetable / tofu and grilled shrimp pho. The soup arrived hot, with a side plate of fresh bean sprouts, Thai basil and thinly sliced jalapeños! I show up to restaurant and go to pay and pickup my order only to find out from cashier that shaken beef is not available to cook and my chicken and rice hadn't even been prepared yet. I had a screaming child in the car expecting to go inside pay and pick up my meal. Ended up not ordering second item because I did not want to waste more time. Got home to a meal that was awful. Have you ever seen that viral reel (yes, I'm a millennial) where 3.5 star rated Chinese restaurants is actually considered the sweet spot for authentic Chinese food? Well Pho Ca Dao Poway is it, in the Vietnamese category. Always consistent, always delicious, always accurate and always prompt service. This restaurant (when I'm not ordering delivery) is clean upon entry and doesn't give that nasty hole in the wall vibe. Yes, parking can be terrible/tight if it's busy, but it's so worth it! While their salt and pepper wings can use improvement (needs bigger wings and more breading); I can't say enough good things about their Pho Tai, Grilled Chicken Pho, Spring rolls, trio vermicelli bowl, and beef Bahn mi sandwiches! I've really enjoyed the bbq pork banh mi sandwiches every time I've ordered (10+ orders). Each time the order is correct, delivered on time and DELICIOUS. The meat is tender and poached with flavor, and the pickled slaw, cucumber slices, peppers and herb garnish are excellent condiment add ons! I'm going to help bump up the reviews of this place. Pho Ca Dao & Grill is a chain within San Diego and while it's not mind blowing food, it's solid, relatively cheap, and food comes quick. I'm not sure if I've just been able to avoid crowds or if they're just not that busy as an establishment, but there was never a wait for seating and again, food doesn't take long to come. Yesterday in the morning I stopped by to get a pho and I did not have a good experience with my server, he just came to take my order and after that he never came to check up on me to ask if I needed anything and it's honestly so weird because the whole time he was just behind the counter looking around as if he was at home with a cup of coffee in his hand and not to mention that he was on FaceTime just pacing around talking loudly on the phone in front of all the clients! This place has to be one of the worst Vietnamese restaurant in all San Diego. I've been here 3 times in the last year and each time there has been an issue. Food has gotten more stale and mediocre as time has gone by. Not a single person in there speaks decent English(edit: this is important because if you can't communicate with me, how am I supposed to know what's going on?). And they have homeless shelter portion. This broken rice in the picture cost $17 plus tax. The loaf was stale, rice was atleast 2 days old because it was starting to go bad and the meat was cold beyond normal temperature. They included an infant fist full of salad. They can't even give you 10 cents worth of salad. Crazy. Not sure if they have frozen meat they microwave or not. Disgusting service, nasty food and terrible customer service. 10/10 would recommend an MRE from back in the service over these guys. First time they flat out just missed an entire meal in my to go order and denied it being missing after I have already left the establishment. Dont really feel like explaining the rest. What a cool place, with great food, and a cute robot! Was pleasantly surprised to see how nicely appointed the restaurant was. Very inviting and plenty of details in the decor to look at. We were immediately seated, and the staff was kind and knowledgeable about the menu. Pho Tai for my buddy and ribeye pho for me with salad rolls. Broth was hot and not overly oily, and the add-on ingredients were fresh. Really tasty pho. The salad rolls were wrapped perfectly and very fresh. Our group came for dinner at this location of Pho Ca Dao & Grill after an outdoor group event. The place was less than half full so getting a table for six was not an issue. The interior looked nice and was definitely inherited from a non-Asian establishment as you could tell from the setup. The parking situation was kind of odd as they shared some spaces with Kaminski's Sports Lounge and BBQ next door, but the driveways can make it tricky to enter the appropriate lot if you're not careful. The PCD menu seemed pretty standard across their multiple branches. The prices were reasonable compared to other Vietnamese dining spots in the SD area. We shared a plate of chicken wings and egg rolls as an appetizer. I only tried the latter and thought they were average in taste and crispiness. I ordered the marinated char-grilled ribeye steak bun (vermicelli noodles) for my entree. The meat was well seasoned, but I thought there were too many vegetables in the bowl compared to the noodles. Needed to update my review based on my past few experiences here & terrible customer service. First was when my dad ordered to go, went into pick up and the lady was rude to him. Second bad experience was tonight, I ordered to go.. Walked in to an elderly Vietnamese gentleman that met me at the door with my order and almost pushing me out the door with the order. I told him I needed to pay, so I did. Then I asked for the chili oil & sauces. This man pointed to the back and told me to get it. He then began to sweep. I look at the ground & it's soaking wet from them mopping. I felt so uncomfortable having to walk on the wet floor (no signs placed) and feeling like there's a chance I could slip and fall. No one cared. Workers were all cleaning up. I carefully walked to the back to get the sauces I asked for and they were out. I said "excuse me, there's no more chili oil?" The same gentleman said to me, "No more." Very dismissive, unwilling to help at all. I would've appreciated if he gave me the bottle of chili oil & I would've poured it myself. But he was very rude. Clearly did not care about customer service. Yes, I ordered about 30 mins before closing but you shouldn't be mopping and doing closing duties when customers are still there eating. Last week, We had lunch here and the pho was fine but not great. The interior is fabulous and welcoming. The broth was warm but not steaming hot. It's hard to cook Tai meat in warm water. The service was ok but some items took a while to get. Other pho places are much quicker and efficient. Today, We ordered lunch via Uber eats for pick up. There was only 3 customers in the restaurant and it was not busy. My online order was not ready and it seemed they started working on it when I arrived. They had 20 minutes to work on it. I waited for 15 more minutes as they prepped the sandwiches and egg rolls. I thought they were Easy items to cook. There was a very nice and kind host at the front door who was very friendly and caring. She was very helpful. She earned them a star! Otherwise this place scores 2 stars.
