What a privilege to be able to enjoy well prepared Vietnamese food served in large portions. The pork served with both #49 and 58 were both juicy, tender, well- seasoned with great depth of flavor and texture. We also enjoyed the 3 bean drink. Reminds me of the Filipino halo- halo. They have a strange business model in that a small bowl is $11 and a large bowl is $12. It came out piping hot. I had to let it sit, as well as, blow on the broth to cool it down. The staff was tri-lingual. Imagine that! The food came out quick. It seems a lot of locals dine here. The restaurant is located in Chinatown. The street entrance is below ground level. We ordered a small and medium; instantly regretted not getting a bigger size though because I def could have eaten more. Broth was darker than normal. Nothing stood out about the broth, but it was pretty spice-forward and still very much hit the spot. They surprisingly loaded up on the meat; I've never had this much meat in my bowl of pho at any other restaurants. The noodles were also cooked perfectly! The spring rolls were good. Very crunchy wrapping, mixed with a fusion of veges, protein and vermicelli. The half chicken was my least favorite dish. I think it's an acquired taste, but the meat was tough to chew and the sauce was a quite tart. Combining all the factors mentioned above, it was a bit difficult to eat. The pho was good. The soup brough was warm, hearty and filling. The noodles were good too - very soft and easy to eat. The vermicelli dish was also good. Very standard protein and vege vermicelli dish. The chicken was tender and shrimp was grilled to perfection. Not a bad choice for Vietnamese cuisine in Montreal.
