So, apparently, once you hit 30, you need to be careful since your warranty, I guess, expires. Of…read morecourse, no one tells me this. So, first, I injured my shoulder. "No biggie," I thought. "Let it rest. Now, you have the opportunity and perhaps the motivation to start running again." Unfortunately, my knees weren't hip to my plan...at all. So, after my limp of shame from the Hatchshell back to Central Square, I figured it was time to seek some real help.
One MRI and multiple X-rays later, I found myself at Sports and Physical Therapy down on Longwood Ave. (This company has multiple offices, but coming from Central Square, I felt that this office was the closest for me.)
From the first eval, I knew I was going to like this place. Why? Jerry really knew his stuff. My biggest fear was that I would find yet another one of those "cookie cutter" kinds of places where everyone gets the exact same PT treatment. ("Stretch, now ride the bike, and massage...off you go!")
Jerry took the time before and after the eval to discuss options based on my real responses. And when I say he took the time, I'm talking no rush whatsoever. That was appreciated. I worked with Jerry, Natasha, and Meredith at this office, and I highly recommend all three of them. Very personable, experienced, and helpful.
My therapy was well-paced, challenging but not frustrating, and, quite frankly, a lot of fun. They work with a wide variety of clients, and I saw first-hand how they approached each client and catered the therapy directly to his or her needs and capabilities. The office can get busy, but they are extremely good at what they do, and I never once felt rushed through my therapy or that I was deprived of their attention.
So, how do I feel, now that my therapy is over? In a word, great. I'm back to pre-injury intensity levels, and I honestly feel that the muscles surrounding my joints are stronger than they were prior to my injuries, which is usually a good thing.
Couple of additional notes....
* Parking in the Longwood area sucks. Unless you take public transportation, you'll have to park in a parking garage. I was easily dropping $10 for parking, twice a week. That gets annoying really quickly.
* They also offer other services, such as massage therapy, for an hourly rate. I never took them up on this (I usually go to Boston Backworks), but their rates are pretty good. In fact, I think they were ~$65-$70 an hour, which is $5-$10 cheaper than Boston Backworks.
* I am now officially the Indo Board master (google it), thanks to them. Yes, I am adding that to my resume, thank you very much.
All in all, very highly recommended.
