I've been going to this place since it first opened and while it's still good, the quality has gone down as of late. The last couple times I've been there the food was sloppily prepared and really greasy. It's not a gourmet spot by any means but the burgers are just slapped together and taken out to the table. The drinks are always cold though and the red beer mix is the best I've had in town so it isn't a total loss. So I got to try out this little spot (mainly cause its rather close to home) a few weeks back and i can honestly say i loved it. Usually my go to places for burgers was usually Steve O's or Crave but since i moved to Central I had been looking for a little bit of an upscale version of the gourmet burgers i so love. This is in no way a diss to all the delicious places i have nearby that serve burgers (I'm looking at you Papa burgers) but sometimes I like feeling a little fancy while I'm enjoying a burg. The place itself is nice, not too small and not too big. Service was great and the server seemed to really know his menu. I ended up getting their Kimchi burger and it didn't last long in front of me. The meat itself had a great flavor to it and the Kimchi was on point! I'll definitely have to come here more times to check out all of their different burgers, but in case you are in the Central area and are looking for a good spot for a Burg and a Brew i would highly recommend you come visit the guys at TripB. read more

Dang I thought I posted this months ago! It's been in my drafts! El Paso has known Tommy Hwang for over a decade through his Japanese express eatery, Mirai Bowl, but this year, we met a much different side through Border Burger Bar. This neighborhood bar and restaurant serves craft American fare made from scratch and infused with bold Hispanic and Asian flavors. When I first came here, I was totally disappointed there wasn't a veggie burger on the menu since Chef Tommy is known for some amazing vegan sushi. Thanks to a friend's tip, I found out about the secret veggie burger on the menu. It's actually the Italian burger subbed w/a marinated portobello cap. Still no veggie patty, but hey it's something! You can get the mushroom subbed in the other burgers, but the waitstaff sometimes gives you a look of confusion and is hesitant to do so. The pesto they use in the Italian burger is jarred, which is weird because they make mostly everything else from scratch, including the kimchi (it's a family recipe!). The hamburger buns come from Gussie's Bakery, and they have the perfect amount of softness and sweetness. The fries are also made in-house and are pretty good, but not my favorite in town. Border Burger Bar, or as I know it and thus so should you: Triple B, is a solid place to grab a beer and a burger in a relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere, it's also very reasonably priced. Triple B marked the final stop of Yelp's Shot in the Dark series and thanks to Tanya we got to sample many of the appetizers available. I really liked the Buffalo Shrimp, a lot of people thought they were too spicy, but IMO they were perfect. The Kimchi nachos and cheese sticks are also yummy. Triple B offers a plethora of burgers ranging from classics to flamboyant. I ordered the Coloradoan, which has hatch chiles blended into the patty as well as on top along with avocado. The presentation looked great, but the burger was rather bland, I wanted a green chile party in my mouth, but nobody showed up :( not to say it was bad, it was okay. Could someone get our server a map? Because I'm fairly certain she was far too strung out on drugs to find the kitchen. Or...anything else, for that matter. Pulling into the parking lot of "Triple B" (and yes, that's what I am calling them) was no easy task. First of all, the outside lighting is atrociously dim. Second, they don't exactly have the greatest location...unless you happen to already live on this side of town. Then it's fine...I guess. At any rate, I pretty much felt like I was going WAY out of my way to reach them, but I'm glad I remained tenacious all the same. The decorum was that of what you'd expect from a typical bar and grill. The question I wanted answered tonight was...could the cuisine match up? The answer: a delightfully surprising yes! The service was...meh. And I'll get to exactly why in a bit. First...the good stuff.. One quick look at their menu and you can obviously tell this is a burger bar, just like the title ostensibly points out. The wife and I both got bacon cheeseburgers, my son a classic kid's cheeseburger and my daughter...the Italian burger. Since kids will enjoy nearly anything that's free and doesn't taste like three day old moldy Brussels sprouts, nobody at the round table had any complaints. I'll just describe to you MY dish. The bacon cheeseburger was actually really good. I really loved the fries here as well. One word: rustic. Sometimes simple is better and less is more. Anyways, back to the burger; cooked to a nice medium well, decent sized beef patty (maybe 1/3 pound or so), the bacon FULLY cooked (which I loved), tomato..onion...wait--no. There were no onions. And I'm afraid it was actually the waitress's fault. Aah...the waitress. *long sigh* Where to begin with this token neophyte... Right off the bat, even my teenage daughter could point out that the waitress seemed as if she was strung out on drugs prior to service. But that's not even really my main issue here. My big issue was the fact that she didn't really seem to have a clue about....anything at all. For example.. I order my usual Cabernet. First thing she asks.. "I *think* we have that, but I'm not sure?..". Uhm..."k"...I think to myself. Keep in mind, Cabernet is a VERY common red wine...like Merlot. Just about EVERY restaurant that serves wine has these reds. I guarantee it. But wait--there's more.. She proceeds to get my wine. Only she returns with something that looks more like a Pinot Grigio or Chardonnay. I sh*t you not, the FIRST words out of my mouth were, "Uhm...Cabernet is a RED wine."...even after she attempted to explain to me that's what the bar gave her. I sincerely doubt that! Any bartender who knows their own ass from a hole in the ground knows their wines. Otherwise that bartender should go back to bar-tending school. But wait--there's more.. Ages later, I receive my wine. We order our meals. Now, I'll say this right now: the wife and I are very particular about how we order our food. So we make sure to accurately describe what we want left off or added onto our meal. My burger was supposed to come with bacon, cheese, white onion, mustard, pickle, lettuce and tomato. I asked her to hold the mustard and pickle. Guess what I got back. C'mon...I know you can guess. A burger with NO onion, NO lettuce, they left the mustard off (10 points for Griffindor there) BUT...guess what was still included on my burger. I bet you can guess. Yup...PICKLES! This was just a burger and the pickles were easy enough to pick off myself. So I didn't bother wasting time sending back the burger. I'm not a pretentious douche, after all. But wait--there's more.. I ordered a second glass of wine. 20 minutes later, my drink arrived. But really...it got to a point where I wondered if 1.) the waitress ever remembered to place my order or 2.) if she forgot where the bar was at. But I digress. Big question: would I return? Well.. If I were in the neighborhood...yeah. I actually wouldn't mind having lunch here sometime...so long as I wasn't driving all the way from my house to here. The food is good, the location is annoying, but the service...was...near miss. I dare even say abysmal. I mean...I'm thoroughly convinced this place should probably consider administering drug tests for all their employees because...I'm not sure if it was drugs she was ON or drugs she should be TAKING, but...eh...whatever. So I've been waiting for for this place to open since they first started announcing it, so I was exited to finally get to eat here today. Food: I had the actual border Burger which was a little under seasoned and a bit greasy but none the less delicious. I also had the truffle fries which are pretty good, so far my favorite part of the meal. I love the Korean influence on the menu I will totally order the Kimchi Burger if I ever come back. Service: The waitress was very nice but a bit inexperienced in taking orders. I noticed a lot of the other waiters just standing around not really doing anything and eating behind the line (which should never happen) Overall experience: I will say there's room for improvement like with all new restaurants but if you can get a better Burger down the street I don't see this place being open for to long so hopefully the owners get on the staff to behave more professionally and get on the cooks to actually season the burger meat also order better quality meat since grease was running down my elbows from trying to eat this burger. Hype Alert!!! Another recommended location to try out. I heard central EP had the best burgers in town so here I am two weeks in a row hitting the staples. Today's adventures took me to 3 spots and @borderburgerbar was on the list. I wanted to get something similar to Papa Burgers' Chiara Burger for a reference point. So I went with The Coloradoan (Green Chile Burger) which was comprised of freshly ground beef mixed with green chile, Swiss cheese, grilled anaheim green chile, avocado slices, spring mix, tomato, onion and lemon zest aioli. Interesting aioli which I haven't seen anywhere else I've been on this burger tour. The bun was big and soft. Can't go wrong with big soft buns. I dove right in. I was immediately hit with a punch of garlic. I'm assuming from the aioli? Another new texture I was punched with was the avocado. They were perfectly textured. The purpose of the spring mix? Idk, to put lettuce in it? Not a fan of soft textured lettuces that do nothing but soak up juices. That was my only ding. The Anaheim green chile is a different flavor than hatch green chile, and it was noticed. Maybe I'm too in-tuned with my El Pasoan chile tasting mutant power. It was a good burger, but next time I'm going to expand my horizons with their "Border Burger." EP Burger Snob score of 8.1. Have been ordering take out from this restaurant since Covid-19 hit EP. At first they were willing to come outside and bring my order to my car and I was very appreciative of the service. The northeast/central part of EP usually lacks some interesting places at times but luckily there are more and unique places popping up. I was surprised to see kimchi fries and kimchi burgers on the menu bc I haven't seen it in EP yet. Unfortunately I have not tried them but I will come back! I did order a few regular cheeseburgers with fries and an ahi burger with sweet potato fries for the family. I really enjoyed the ahi burger and the sweet potato fries were also really good. My family didn't say much about their burgers but I thought they were juicy, and not very greasy which is good! I hope to try some of the other items on their menu! The burgers here are legit. Tasty fresh beef. Inventive toppings. I started with a root beer float, then tried a Korean burger with the truffle fries. Both were delicious. I can't give five stars because they were out of bulgogi for my burger, but my friendly waitress Chrystal was happy to substitute a few slices of avocado on my burger to compensate. The kimchi was spicy and delicious and the garlic aioli was creamy and yummy. Burgers are served on a fresh, firm bun from a local bakery down the street. The burger was good, tasted homestyle and they didn't skimp on any ingredient! Our waitress was friendly and gave us lots of options. The "truffle" fries were eh, not very flavorful. Overall I enjoyed my meal and would return. What was somewhat annoying was as we were eating, there were only two other tables so it was extremely quiet. The cook in the back was yelling out all his personal problems to the point where we could hear every detail. This went on for maybe half an hour. Without mentioning specifics - we know way too much about who is and isn't in prison/juvi. What threw me over edge was that every other word he used was a curse word. Everyone has freedom of speech and I'm not judging but this isn't exactly what I want to hear as I'm trying to enjoy dinner. I would be furious if I had kids with me. It was unprofessional and inappropriate for him to be sharing this very personal information with a waitress so loudly and using profane language. I hope they read this as a growing point. The burgers are excellent. Made to order and juicy. I can't remember the last time I had a burger "medium" instead of "well done". Make sure you have plenty of paper towels ready. I took my Mom out to have a burger, and I have heard so many good things about Border Burger that I decided to give it a shot. Arriving at the location is easy, and there is plenty of parking (could use a little more lighting). As we entered the establishment we were quickly greeted by Summer, welcoming us to Border Burger and let us know that we could sit anywhere. The ambiance is that of a sports bar nothing extraordinary. They have multiple flat screen TVs. As you enter the right side has bar tables and bar stools and the left has dining tables that seat four each. If you have a large party they can easily accommodate less that 75. It has intimate lighting and good music (a little loud for my taste) and the place appears to be clean. The key word being appears. We sat down and Summer quickly brought menus to our table. When she placed them in front of us she asked if she could get us something to drink. My Mom turned around and asked her what they had to drink and pointed at the menu and told her, "those are the drinks." She seemed like she was in a rush and while she was waiting for my mom to give her, her drink order she was moving chairs around. So disappointing. read more

Our server was excellent-working her ass off while her coworker (large female in a red shirt) sat around and did nothing. The large female in the red shirt then told our server that we where mad at her and she was doing a poor job. Nothing could be further from the truth! As I said this is just one example of the bullying I saw by the large female in the red shirt. More concerning, no one else seemed to care how the other server was treated. The other server did an amazing stand up job, she did not let how she was treated affect her professionalism and performance. Competition is pretty stiff for Border Burger. It's located near by the legendary Rosco's Burger and the delicious Papas Burger. Make no mistake that this place can hold its own. They offer more options than other place at very reasonable prices. I've had the Classic Burger, The Californian, and the Hot Wings. The meat on The Classic was bit dry but, nonetheless, delicious. The Californian is a chicken sandwich and has to be my new favorite chicken sandwich. Last but not least the hot wings, they are spicy with an Asian sweet twist to them. They are amazing. The service was great, even the owner came out and checked to see how everything was. I highly recommend this place to anyone who doesn't want to break the bank on a delicious burger. read more

Very good! We actually were parked in another restaurants parking lot when we saw a billboard for this place. My husband and I got the Border Burger (I got mine with a fried egg), and my sister got the bacon cheeseburger. We got the kids chicken nuggets for my two year old. Regular fries, onion rings, sweet potatoe fries, as well as the Oinker fries (appetizer) were all had. Regular fries were OK, but everything else is delicious! Chicken nuggets are kid approved. Several years ago this place was amazing. We would eat here like 3-4 times a month. Anytime a friend or family member wanted to try somewhere new, this is where we took them, or suggested they try. We haven't even gone back in like 7-8 months because it just went downhill seemingly overnight. We gave them many chances, thinking, "They'll get it right next time..." but had like 6 bad visits in a row. They were always out of like the first 2-3 beers we'd ask for. Every time. Then the burgers started getting progressively more and more overcooked, and the fries undercooked. The service turned into pure garbage, too. We were regulars, and yet we'd go in sometimes at lunch with only 3 other tables of people, and we would wait 10-15 mins before a server would even come over to get our drink orders. The last time we went, we finished our food, and then couldn't get anyone to look our way to save our life so we could ask for the bill. Eventually after another good 10-15 mins I had to get up and track someone down to ask to pay, and then it still took another 5 mins to get the bill, and then another 5-10 for them to come back to get our card to charge us. I'd say we ate here at least 20 times over the course of about 7-8 months. We'll never go back again. read more
