Worst customer service. Don't bother. The owner accused my daughter of putting something in her pocket while there with her friend and Mom. When my daughter suggested emptying her pocketstp to prove she hadn't, the owner became passive aggressive and made rude and sisparaging comments as. Leaving the store. my daughter is a senior in high school, a state ranked athlete in two sports, and has a job. The owner should be careful in the future how she handles herself. Either follow through the legal way or be hit with a defamation lawsuit. read more

The selection of crystals, books, stones, other items was well curated and fairly priced. The young woman who helped us was kind and helpful. I went in recently to buy some gems for my daughter. The man who was working was very dismissive when I asked him a few basic questions. He barely acknowledged me and seemed very bothered that we were in the store. He seemed inconvenienced to be helping us. I felt super unwelcome. I selected a stone, which wasn't marked. When I got to the counter I told him what it was and how much it was . He sighed and walked to the location I got it, looked, and came back . He didn't say a word to me during the entire checkout. When I told him thank you he didn't even respond. I don't know how to explain in adequate words how weird the atmosphere was in the store. There were tons of cool gems and crystals but they were very very expensive. Some of the stones were marked up 50 percent or more than other stores I have been too. It was ironic because they sell bumper stickers that say "shop local ". Well, yeah, I try to but not when local stores treat you like you are a nuisance shopping at their store. I wish I would have read the reviews here first before shopping. One or two bad reviews can be explained away. The fact there are so many bad reviews paints an accurate picture of the terrible customer service and high prices at this store. We won't be back. read more

I was so excited to see this shop! I love any & all things witchy & magical. Not to mention crystals, books, tarot, singing bowls, incense & more. This shop is pretty big & the displays are enchanting. The prices on the crystals were high. I had some sticker shock. I wandered around the shop & was never greeted. They have a fantastic display of tarot & oracle cards- with cards out in the table for you to flip through cards & books! I saw a couple decks I already had & was really checking everything out. When I walked up- there was a lady behind the table, but she stepped out while I was looking without offering any assistance. I truly felt like the two ladies working were more interested in chatting with each other than helping customers. I ended up walking out without buying anything because I felt like they didn't care for my business. I was really disappointed- since there were several decks I wanted to purchase. Shame. read more

I took my daughter in for her birthday with a group of friends, we were looking to spend $$$. I even saw a chakra wand I really wanted, unfortunately the owner/worker accused one of the girls of stealing within minutes of being there. I grabbed the kids all 17 year olds and no longer wanted to give them my business. Very disappointed, we looked all over town for a crystal shop. When I came into the store last year (summer 2021), I really loved the store. Mostly because they have open copies of all of their tarot and oracle decks, which is sooo nice as a reader to be able to see all of the cards, not just guess if you will like it based on the back of the box or 4-5 sample cards. I purchased one of my favorite decks here: The Spellcaster's Tarot. They offer a wide variety of spiritual books on many different subjects. It's very much a one-stop shop metaphysical store which caters to a lot of different kinds of people. It's a good-sized store. They have a decent selection of incense and carry my favorite one, which is getting harder to find where I live - Aqua by Ka-Fuh. The magic books section is good overall and I also liked the section on essential oils and herbalism. I feel like Phoenix Rising is a good store to browse, and covers a lot of different topics, but it gets very busy during tourist season, so if you need advice on how to use things or what crystal to buy, you might not get much individual attention. I came in already having an idea of what I was looking for so that wasn't too much of an issue, but it was so crowded I felt like I couldn't leisurely peruse the books to see if I could find something I really wanted. Having too many customers in the store was a little distracting, but I came in August, so it's probably a little easier to shop during a different time of year. As other reviewers have mentioned, some of the prices are high! They also carry books that are unrelated to spirituality. I kind of wish that they used that space for more spiritual books, though I did appreciate that they had some books on the Pacific Northwest. I did find it a little weird to see political books, though. I still like this shop and will come again during my next visit to Port Townsend, but if you are looking specifically for magic items or crystals, you may want to check out the metaphysical shop in Bremmerton. It's smaller, but it's a better place for those who need more one-on-one attention/advice and for witches who are looking for supplies. Phoenix Rising is still a fun place to visit when you're in Port Townsend. read more

This store is full of beautiful things. My dad bought me the most epic windchimes for my birthday, unfortunately he didn't realize that I live in a small apartment and have no room for 50 lb 6 foot tall wind chimes, my tiny balcony is only about 8 feet long. So we brought them back and asked to return or exchange them and would gladly buy enough to cover the entire amount of the first chimes which were $525. Jill flat out said NO. First she asked if they had been opened, which they had because they were open when he was in the store purchasing them. Then her reasoning was due to Covid... There were people in the store without masks, no sanitation station, and the giant wind chimes could be easily desanitized. We even would have paid a restocking fee.. I just have NO way to display these chimes so now we're stuck with them. My dad was ready to continue spending a lot of money in this store and refer more friends here but after this seriously poor customer service experience, Jill has lost a customer. Unfortunate and sad. I'd rather buy online than support this small business going forward, and I hate saying that. read more

I have shopped at this store many times in the past two decades. For the first eighteen years I had always spoken with Jill. If she were on a phone call discussing landscape issues for seven minutes I would (a) assume she spends almost all of her waking hours when the store is open behind the counter and needs to take such calls on the click and I would simply browse for ten minutes because she does not have another employee to cover for her break. As a practitioner who has not found four of Israel Regardie's books in other stores I'm happy to visit here. In the off season I inquired about an orb she had in the front window. I wondered it it was available( it was for well o we a hundred dollars. The next summer I went back to purchase it. I take off one star because putting an orb In sunlight is a financial necessity but something that it's hard to set as an example. read more

OVERPRICED. SERIOUSLY. I shop local first but when they want more than $100 for a book I can buy on Amazon for $21, I'll go with Amazon, which is sad. They couldn't explain why it was so expensive. This shop is so full of beautiful things -crystals, stones, sculptures, books, fabrics - and the staff are very knowledgeable. I received the best reading of my life from one of the astrologers who, along with other mystics, regularly offers appointments here. The owner is a fascinating person who lives part time in India since she attended College there, and she has an Indian daughter. She is a practicing Buddhist and world-traveler, so she carries fine sculpture and an excellent variety of books. Port Townsend has been lucky to have this shop for 35 years. read more

This corner store has Beautiful stones & crystals with books and healing inspirations throughout. My husband and I were visiting family & we were eager to shop here. We had the intention of a Large purchase as we had shopped there some years back during a previous visit. I am inclined to write this post because our visit in this shop was utterly DISTURBING. The owner, a miserable woman named Jill was SHOCKINGLY rude and just despicable in her behavior. Her energy & tone of voice made her angry facial expressions visible through her Covid mask. My husband inquired about a particular stone which she wasn't clear what it was, so he opened a book. She scolded him for opening it stating it was for Sale, not for browsing & then didn't have time to assist him further & walked off. I then asked the sales girl about a crystal priced at $1850. I was asking for a cash deal on it. The girl snapped a pic of the crystal and together we walked over to Jill. Jill scoled her employee for taking this approach and in front of me belittled her choice. She then walked off towards the stone with no gesture towards us. As we rounded the corner I was taken back as she said that the stone was actually $2500 & the lowest she would go would be $2000. I asked why, as what looked like the stones other half was priced similarly, she mumbled under her breath and walked off. I apologized to the employee that she had to work with such a horrible boss. She was very sweet about it and said she has gotten used to it. It amazes me that a store with such a wonderful message through healing and nature could be owned and run by such a negative human. I also felt judged. I believe she assumed that we were not prepared to actually spend that kind of money so that added to her Epic Fail in both customer service and making money during a global pandemic. But mostly, She should be utterly ashamed with herself for being so nasty to her employee. Buy your stones from another store. One filled with Love and good karma. Best of Luck to Jill. One of the oldest metaphysical bookstores in the country, it has an amazing array of magical objects and stones and all kinds of tools to turn you onto new ideas and help you heal yourself. Many beautiful art objects from Jill's international travels decorate the store. I love visiting this store because they have the best selection of crystals that I've found in the area. However, their prices are way too high. I understand the struggle of running a small local business, so I have still spent money here when I find something I really love (considering that crystals are the sort of item that no two are alike, and it's worth it to me to occasionally splurge on a piece I fall in love with). I buy crystals on Etsy and Instagram shops because you can find wayyyy better deals online. But every now and then, it's nice to go to a physical store where you can hold them in your hand and just enjoy the tactile sensation of crystal shopping. I have had good experiences with a man who works here who has a parrot; he is always helpful. There's an older lady who works here though who has a very cold, abrasive demeanor. She answers questions very bluntly. It doesn't bug me much, but I know some people are sensitive to that sort of thing. I've brought my toddler in here several times, and the workers were never rude about her being there like I saw in some other reviews. I also brought my professional camera once and asked if they minded me taking pictures for my personal photography portfolio, and they were fine with it. The store is arranged beautifully, and there are spiritual workers upstairs who offer readings and classes. They have lots of books on spirituality, and a little bench upstairs that invites you to stay and read. They have some very interesting vintage books. They also carry Tibetan artisan pieces like bags, prayer flags, and jackets. They've got candles, burners, incense, amulets, wands, cards, and other items for rituals. All in all, I really enjoy this place and would be in here every weekend burning up my money if they had more competitive pricing. read more

I'm a bit sadden to hear all the negative reviews in regards to the customer service others received. I had the pleasure of spending quite a bit of time in the area and would go in regularly to the store. My experience was pleasant and found the lady to be helpful to me. She even gave me some crystals for my safe travels. At the time she had a large section of crystals and I fell in love with a quartz crystal ball. After thinking about it and seen other shops didn't carry the size. I bought it, I had to really think about it because of the price, fast forward 7 years later and I still have it. honestly, they have an amazing selection. i've been going here since i was 15, n on Sunday i went back to grab a nice piece for a necklace. i wanted a beautiful pendant n was prepared to drop a good amount of money on a pendant. i've always loved Opal. i knew what i was getting into, it's my birth stone n i've bought a couple single pieces in the last few years. i knew a pendant would be a couple hundred dollars. i was getting ready to ask to see a piece that i was already falling in love with. it was a *little* but busier at that time (i'd say there were maybe 3 other groups in the store w us) n every time the clerk was asked a question, the customer was met with a very rude attitude. it seemed like everyone was getting snarky remarks from her. it was finally my turn to ask to see my favorite piece of Opal to get a price on it (the sticker was under the pendant, i couldn't see it from the other side of the glass) n she wouldn't let me see it. i asked if i could know the price n she said "expensive, like really expensive" so i asked for a number since i'm prepared to pay a good price for a piece. she said "at least $200" n i said "well, i'm prepared to spend about $300, can i get a price on it please" n she huffed as she got up to go get the keys to the case. she let out a big sigh as she started to walk towards the case so i asked if she was alright. she said "yeah" in a very rude tone, so i let her know if i was an inconvenience, i don't want the piece from her. she sat back down n that answered my question. it sucks. i travel far to get here every time i want a new piece, but i don't think i'll be coming back for as long as she's working there. i'm sad that my experience w this place was so rough this last time around. i wanted my beautiful piece of Opal. w how she's selling things, i'm sure the piece will never sell. read more

My family was there visiting yesterday and I wanted to go in there to buy myself a few things. The man working in there was so unbelievably rude to my family and I that I think he deserves some recognition for it. My son accidentally touched some chimes in the back. He ran back and told us that "the circus is up the street" and how we should leave and go to the toy store and threw a fit saying "I'm trying to make a living here." It was seriously overboard. I loved this store. It's a pretty typical new age store, that it has a good deal of random, pretty paraphenalia around with all the religious and spiritual goodies. I enjoyed the music is the background, and I really loved all the various incense and candle holders they had to offer. A really great place for both those interested in "Wicca" and people like me, who just want the lovely smells, the pretty candle holders, and the occasional book that just might lead to a better understanding of the universe. I gotta say, though... the woman behind the counter seemed pretty disinterested. This store is huge and has an incredible array of spiritual books, music, crystals and otherworldly type things. A whole section on Fairies, now that's pretty cool. I come in here to browse periodically and the right book always seems to jump into my hands. I've gotten everything from great fiction books to The Tibetan Book of the Dead (Thurman translation) and music by Donna deLory. They also have some neat artwork that is from far flung places like St. Petersburg and different cities in India. It's hard to leave this place without finding something special. The owner also knows how to find the best psychic readers. I have had two readings here and they have both been so authentically on-target that I got the shivers. Not weird or dark, but beautiful and spiritual readings that inform me and give me something to think about. When all seems dark and dreary, this is a great place to spend some time in. Take your purchase and go next door to Pippa's for a pot of tea and some home made scones with clotted cream. That is a sure fire way to bring some cheer in. read more

I used to live in Port Townsend & I was a local for years left in 2016. I would Frequent this shop but over summer my husband and I were in PT and decided to stop in to check out Phoenix Rising. WOW! I must say I've never seen or experienced worse customer service or dealt with a more miserable shop owner in my life! My husband and I were very polite, helped ourselves and didn't even have any questions. I grabbed a few small tumble stones and came to the checkout to pay. Jill the older lady/owner was on the phone... She took her time... Making me wait for a few minutes and then when she got off the phone she proceeded to give me eye rolls, several dirty looks and was just generally rude. I was shocked, so much so that I said you know what? You can keep the stones and I walked off. She got really mad then. Stay away, Avoid this shop at all costs unless you're into getting chastised, yelled at and scorned by a crazy and miserable old lady. Horrible business. read more

My 10 year old Son bought a tiny $42 shungite pyramid and had buyers remorse about it. Besides that, it was VERY sharp and pointed, and made me nervous. Kids handle their things and it definitely wouldn't just stay on display. I checked the receipt to see if it had anything about No Returns, it did not. Nor were there signs in the store about Returns or Exchanges. The first clerk said they couldn't return it because of Covid, which felt like bs to me. I asked why there were no signs? She got the owner, who did not say anything about Covid. Instead, she said that she did not take returns on crystals unless they were damaged. Again, I asked why there was no signage, or anything on the receipt? She said she usually "tells" people. Definitely didn't say anything to my son, who spent a total of $85 at the time. She continued to refuse, "because the energy of the crystal has shifted once it leaves the store" What does she think about the energy of her crappy customer service? I have never had a positive interaction with the owner, and this takes the cake. Not going back read more

Nice place, a little stale in inventory. Is basically the same metaphysical store that I worked at 25 years ago. The owner is a bit rude, not as kind as you would expect someone from a spiritual store to be ( I say this after many visits). Tends to kick out teenage girls trying out tarot decks and won't even try to find the incense your looking for ( even when you have the brand and distributor). Basically she seems unwilling to try anything new or cool. A local friend tried to sell his very cool deck there and she refused because it had a swear word in it. read more

My wife and grand daughter were there last week. They asked how much a box was and the reply was "expensive". No price on it. They were directed to less expensive boxes. My wife went up to the counter and then the women took what sounded like a personal call and ignored my wife. Finally my wife asked again what the price was. She was told 70 dollars, "do you want it?" RUDE. I realize it is the end of the season, but that is no way to run a business. RETIRE.
