They covered $4,000, our responsibility was $1,300. I couldn't be happier. It was a seamless process from beginning to end. This is our first time using Trupanion since we enrolled when our pup was 2 months old. It has more than paid for itself. The process was unbelievably smooth, start to finish. If only my own health-care insurance was so efficient!

I…read moresigned up for a free 30-day trial, and when I spoke with a representative, they told me the "free" insurance came with a $250 deductible. I took my kitten in for sneezing--her first vet visit--and got hit with a $215 bill. That's just one example. On top of that, the insurance doesn't cover allergies or anything they decide counts as a pre-existing condition. After that, I called to say I wasn't planning to keep the policy. The rep said the first month was free, and that if I wanted to continue, I just needed to call. I never called because I didn't like their terms. He assured me the policy would only continue if I called in, and otherwise, it would cancel automatically. August 3rd was the cutoff. By August 5th, I noticed a charge on my account and was totally confused. One of my other pets had been dropped, but my kitten was still showing as active. I called to clear things up, explaining that I never called to continue. The person on the phone said, "We still have your kitten's policy active because you never canceled it!" What kind of mixed messages are they sending? I asked them to check their call recordings. The next rep tried to tell me I'd used the policy--because I paid the full $215 vet bill! She then claimed my deductible was $150, not $250. That's simply not true. They didn't pay a cent, and my deductible was supposed to be $250. It's infuriating that they get away with this stuff. They change the rules based on the situation. I hope this company goes out of business. They're dishonest and seem to change their rules to fit the situation. I told them I wasn't paying, but they still charged me $100.13 for one month! They need to be held accountable. I disputed the charge for three reasons: first, they never paid anything and their deductible changed from $150 to $250 the day I took my cat in! Secondly, they lied about the deductible; third, the "lifetime deductible" they promised turned out to be a separate deductible for each illness. So if my pet got sick with five different things, I'd have to pay $500 for each one. That's outrageous. And they keep insisting it's a "lifetime" deductible, even though it resets every time my pet gets a new diagnosis. So if my cat had an ear infection one month ($200 out of pocket), and a respiratory infection the next, that first $200 doesn't count towards the next deductible. If I had to go in for four different illnesses, I'd end up paying $2,000 and still not reach my deductible--because each illness has its own. It's a complete scam. Read the fine print. This company is a master at ripping people off. Stay far away. They're unethical, and everyone you speak to seems to make up their own rules. As many people have said, they always have the perfect excuse to get out of paying. I wish I read the negative reviews before jumping on this stressful wagon!!

I was paying $450.00 for all three of them a month in 2025. However in January of 2026 that went up to a monthly premium of $950.00, when I called about the huge increase, I was told "well, vet care is more expensive, and they are all senior dogs.... " I get 2 are seniors. I even get a yearly increase. But they didn't raise it so much when my now 11 yr old was 8. Now even the 8 yr old is considered senior by healthy paws. Not by my vet, but by the insurance company. I am stuck as all have previous conditions. I do like the idea of changing the tier I am in. That might help. I have never had a problem with being paid on time. I do have to say getting in to use the app is no longer user friendly. It's actually quite a pain.

I have insured multiple dogs with them, and my current dog has been insured since he was 3 months old. He is now 7. They started out great, but over the years they have continually found reasons not to cover things, while my premiums have more than doubled. I was even forced to drop from 90% coverage to 50% because the cost became ridiculous. My dog now has severe gum disease and needs multiple teeth extracted. A couple of years ago, Healthy Paws specifically told me that while they didn't cover dental cleanings, they did cover extractions. Now, after years of paying premiums, they have apparently "tightened the language" and told me extractions are only covered if the tooth was injured in an accident -- such as being hit by a car or getting hurt in a dog fight. My dog has a serious disease, and they won't cover the treatment. And their standard answer when you call about coverage is essentially: Go ahead and spend thousands of dollars, submit the claim afterward, and we'll tell you if we feel like covering it. That isn't insurance. Gum disease can literally be fatal - how open earth can they not cover that? It's in the words - "DISEASE". I have been a loyal customer for many years. I have paid them thousands of dollars in premiums. And now that my dog actually needs significant medical care, they have found another way to avoid paying. I will NEVER insure another pet with Healthy Paws, and I strongly urge everyone else to stay away. Sadly I am stuck, because rarely do new insurance companies take on a more "senior" dog. Absolutely disgraceful. Avoid this company at all costs.

I was at my wit's end recently after being told that I had missed open enrollment (despite having applied before the deadline), and that I couldn't get an exception made. I have medications that I had to stop cold turkey months ago and have been without, and have been dealing with health issues I couldn't really afford to get care for because I was told I had to wait until November for open enrollment to start again. I posted on Facebook asking friends for advice, assuming it was pointless. But then one of them said I should look into a broker - an option I had no idea was available, nor that it was free. I looked through a list of brokers and found Gary Franke and his team; they sounded good, so I requested help from them. And thank god I did, because I tell you what - after months of metaphorically pulling my hair out over how stressful the runaround of insurance was, especially when I don't have much knowledge on the subject - Gary Franke and Heffernan Insurance Brokers had me squared away in a few emails and a single phone call. I couldn't believe how simple the process was. Gary got my information - how much I make a year, what exactly I'm looking for / need help with - and narrowed the insurance plans down to two that he said would be the most affordable and the most helpful for me based on my needs. Then all I had to do was choose from the two, let him know, and he got me enrolled and activated. No fuss, no stress. He was friendly, empathetic, understanding, and answered all of my questions thoroughly and without judgement - even the ones I personally thought were probably dumb questions. He was even willing to discuss my options with a family member that has been trying to help me with the process of getting on insurance, if she had any other questions she wanted to ask him. Even after I was on an active plan, Gary and his team have encouraged me to come to them if I have any further questions, and made sure I know they're available for any other advice I may need in the future. In conclusion, I literally cannot recommend Gary Franke and his team enough. They got done in less than a week - and only took as long as that because I had to make my choice on the plans and slept on it - what I was on the verge of a breakdown trying to do on my own for months. If any of the many people I had spoken to on the myriad of phone calls with WA Healthplan Finder, or any of the insurance companies, had just once suggested a broker, I could have escaped so much stress. If you're on the fence about a broker - do it. It's so worth it, and you can't go wrong with Heffernan Insurance Brokers, and Gary Franke and his team. They are extremely knowledgeable about all this stuff, and genuinely want to help you with what you need and where you're at. There's a reason they have so many 5-star reviews here; and I promise that those reviews are telling the truth, because I know mine is. Reach out to them. I promise you won't regret it.
