If you want eyebrows like Cara Delevingne, look no further. Not only are the ladies at Lash Noir…read morespecialists in eyelash extensions, tinting and curling but they're also eyebrow magicians turning my unruly brows into sleek, well-shaped face framers in a single visit. How? Well, they use a trademark shaping method called Anastasia Brow Enhancements (don't worry, i'd never heard of it before either). Basically, it involves taking certain reference points on your face and then shading in your brows using the stencil that most matched to your natural shape. This means before they even bring out the dye and wax you can see what the finished shape will look like. Genius! I'll admit, the dye they used is darker than i'm used to and was a bit of a shock at first but after donning my new & improved brows for a day, i'm a fan. They also have products that help you sculpt your brows daily, which of course I convinced myself were a necessity. It still early days, but I'll keep you posted...

Unfortunately I got their newest recruit and it shows. I don't know if too much glue was used but all the lashes, particularly on one eye are clumped and stuck together and brushing them doesn't help I just lose more lashes and the glue peels off and sticks to the lashes...I'll be lucky if this lash extension lasts more than a fortnight. Beware who you use...

I had an appointment at 2pm but i was called for the hair cut at 2:35 pm after repeatedly reminding…read morethem about me as they were busy with other customers. The lady who started cutting my hair was unsure of the style i asked for and after 30 minutes she again left my cutting in between and started attending another customers. At 3:30 pm when i told her that if she knew she wont be able to manage today she shouldn't have given me the appointment. Then she started saying its my fault as my hair is thick and it is taking her much longer time to cut because i did not inform her that before hand and she only gives 10-15 minutes for 35$ haircut price. Definitely this place does not respect their customers time and money being spent!

Totally overdue on this review. Kaya is small, two station salon located at the intersection of K…read moreRoad and Queen Street. They offer a variety of services such as mani/pedi, facials, massages and lash extensions. Personally this would not be the place I would come for a mani/pedi because I did not see an adequate place where this service could be performed. If you need waxing or threading services however, this is the perfect spot. You will see that same ladies there regularly, so the more often you visit they will learn about your threading/waxing preferences. Your brows will thank you. Ask for their frequent visitor card. Each time you present the card you will receive a discount on your services. A regular brown threading will be $12.00 instead of $14.00. The stylists also offer hair cuts and henna applications. If you have ever applied henna at home you already know how messy it can be. Stop in to Kaya Hair & Beauty and let the professionals hook you up!

I got yet another voucher off one of those websites as I am a sucker for a good deal. This place is…read morein a handy central location but be warned: do not get confused with the door like I did. There is a door with a doorbell which I didn't realise existed so I stood outside for ages wondering what to do as you could not knock on the door due to a security door covering the actual door. Not that anyone would be quite as clueless as I but thought I would chuck in that piece of advice just to be safe. So you walk up some steep steps to a very nice level where the salon is. I was led into a room where there was another girl getting her eyelashes done and I lay down on the table while they did my eyelashes as standard protocol goes. Halfway through the girl excused herself and started talking to her superior in what sounded to me like a slightly distressed tone but I could not understand her as she was talking in an Asian language. Her boss finished off the job for her and I do not know what happened because they did not communicate with me. The end result looked very nice but after the first night a lot of lashes fell out which was very disappointing, normally with other places this does not happen. Hopefully this business has sorted itself out by now because I think it may be new.

I bought a GrabOne voucher for eyelash extensions and an eyebrow shape for this business ahead of…read moremy wedding. The voucher is non-refundable. I was impressed by the website, as it is very slick, informative and well put together. What few reviews I could find online also seemed positive. I called the business owner via the mobile number listed on the site to make an appointment (I was assuming at a salon, although this was clearly naïve of me), which is where I started to have my doubts. The voicemail greeting was clearly for a personal phone and was unprofessional. However, I thought "well, I guess it's a young person just starting out". I like the idea of someone having the guts to go into business for themselves, and was prepared to give her a break, so I left a message asking for an appointment 6 weeks in advance. The business owner then texted me back promptly confirming that she was available on the requested date, and asking what time would suit me. Over the next hour via text (to date I have never actually spoken to this person), we ironed out an appointment time, and it became apparent that she actually didn't have a business premises and was working from home. She offered to come to me (and it became increasingly clear that this was her preference), but did not mention an additional cost for this ("travel fee") until I asked 6 text messages later. Eventually we settled on me going to her house (she was about to move and would let me know the new address), as I had already paid for the voucher and didn't really want to shell out any more, and also I've never been particularly keen on having strangers in my house. Three weeks later, the business owner texted me out of the blue asking to reschedule my booking to make it earlier in the day and for her to come to my house after all for an extra $10 because "it's a full packed day that's all". At that point I was very annoyed by what I see as a lack of professionalism. I texted her back (my sense was that if I was not worth the cost of a phone call to her, I would respond in kind) indicating that I would be willing to rearrange my day to suit her, but would not be paying her extra for the privilege. I indicated to her that I would have liked to cancel the appointment due to my perception of her lack of professionalism, but that the voucher was non-refundable. At this point she decided to maintain the original booking, but that "all I ask is that you are on time so it doesn't affect the other bookings I have that day". In the end, after another three weeks of thinking, I decided to cancel the appointment and write off the cost anyway. The idea of spending up to three hours with this person in their home had become very uncomfortable for me, and I was concerned that the lack of professionalism in her interpersonal interactions might extend to her work as well. Possibly I should have given her more of a chance, but in the end I'm just not comfortable having any more to do with this person or having her around delicate body parts like eyes. I lose out by $70 in the end, but I guess that's the risk you take.
