Let me tell you about Phoenix Cabs.
Recently, my girlfriends and I made the trip out to Liverpool. We'd never been before, didn't quite know what to expect. as luck would have it, the flat we had rented was a few miles outside of the city center - far enough that it wasn't too expensive for a cab, but too far to walk. We found Phoenix Cabs through Yelp and boy, did we get lucky.
The driver was prompt, the cab was clean, and it was the cheapest cab we'd taken in our whole time in England. We saved the phone number and proceeded to use them any time we needed a taxi and they were available. We were in Liverpool for just over two weeks, so you can imagine - that's a lot of cabs. Granted, they are a smaller company so busy nights can be a little harder, but if you just need a cab to get somewhere, they're the best.
A couple things stood out to us, though. A driver we had often, John (or Jon, never was sure of the spelling), knew we were out there to see LFC play. We'd talk about the team with him in the cab and we mentioned we didn't have tickets to the last home game of the season. We were going to Dublin for a few days so naturally we called Phoenix for a ride to the airport. John/Jon picked us up and proceeded to get on the radio and ask the other drivers if they knew of any spare tickets to the game that weekend when we got back. Super nice, didn't have to do that. We were touched. On the drive to the airport, he pointed out some houses of former players and then asked if we had some time to stop. He pulls over and we look out the window - he's stopped at Strawberry Fields. Just enough time for us to get a quick picture in front before we were on the road again. And then he stops again - this time outside John Lennon's childhood home. We didn't have to ask, we had time for our flight, but it was the nicest gesture, giving us a chance to visit two landmarks we hadn't had a chance to yet.
When we returned from Dublin, we ended up taking another Phoenix Cab to the city center. John picked us up again and drove us in. He told us on the ride down that while we were in Dublin (for about four days) he asked all the drivers and asked around if anyone had tickets to this game for us. He came up short, as we expected, but the fact that he asked around and tried for us while we were gone was the cherry on the ice cream for us.
On our last day in Liverpool, a driver picked us up and got on the radio to tell the others that "The American girls" were leaving and they all got on and wishes us well and safe travels home. It was so touching I teared up a little bit. They were just fantastic drivers, all around, and we were lucky to have found them
So if you're in Liverpool and need a cab, call them up. They made our trip that much more worth it and I know we'll be calling them as soon as we get back. read more
