I only had one appointment and I'll never go back. Knowing me for only 2 minutes, she immediately started asking me questions about my personal life, like my marital status. When she learned I was divorced, I got a long unwelcomed lecture about divorce, and many more very personal questions and more negative unwanted opinions. Then she changed the topic to politics and ranted about that and then told me very proudly that she doesn't vote. Then back to marriage..... Ridiculously unprofessional and rude. Run! I reached out to Phoebe to inquire about her services and prices since nothing exists on her website. She texted me back giving me the information I asked for. I then explained that I had a newborn at home and asked if she was vaccinated. (See full text thread attached!) Now first let me say I absolutely respect hipaa protected privacy but, as a new mom with an infant whose life is at stake and in a pandemic, I have a responsibility to do my due diligence in protecting new life when a service like eyelashes is extremely close in contact. I also realize this is an optional service but many business are at least showcasing their COVID procedures, where Phoebe has none listed, which again led to my question. If Phoebe didn't want to answer, she simply had to respond saying she didn't have to disclose or didn't feel comfortable or anything remotely professional! Instead she was the complete opposite. Several ago I was facing down menopause and, with all the changes that involves, I was not feeling very feminine anymore. Spoiler alert: midlife changes to hair, skin, body and weight can really leave you reeling. I had always looked after myself generally but beyond that hadn't done much to enhance my appearance. However, I just felt I NEEDED something, if nothing else to lift my spirits and feel better about myself. Enter Phoebe! When I first met her I expressed my fear that, at my age, lash extensions might make me look ridiculous. At that point, the only women I saw with lash extensions were quite young and I was wondering if I was too "past my prime" to pull off long, fluttery lashes. She understood my hesitation but kindly reassured me that they would be absolutely natural, elegant and enhancing. Well, that was 4 years ago and I have seen her religiously every 3 weeks since! I can honestly say this has been the best money that I have spent on myself. I just love Phoebe, and I credit her with changing the way I feel about myself at this period in my life. I always joke to her that when she gets done doing my lashes I feel thinner walking out than when I came in, lol. But the real truth is that the way the lashes make me feel is just amazing overall. I just feel younger, prettier, more elegant or "put together". Isn't that the point of doing anything beauty related? For anyone who is dubious, I would say do not dismiss the power of lash extensions. They really have a transformative effect. However, there is one caveat: you have to find someone who is talented and meticulous. This is Phoebe. She takes her time, she always takes into account your eye shape and who you are as a person, your style etc.., she is gentle and extremely hygiene conscious, she always uses the best quality products and never takes short cuts. One time Phoebe fell ill on one of my appointment days, and impulsively, I made an appointment with another lash technician in town thinking it would be okay. WRONG! She used lash clusters on me which were very long, heavy and uncomfortable. They were super long, like the ones you see Cabaret performers wear. Not at all appropriate for my age or lifestyle. I'm a middle-aged nobody housewife from Benicia FFS! What in the world was this lady thinking? Needless to say, I left her salon feeling and looking like a clown. This would NEVER have happened with Phoebe. That was an important lesson for me: ....primarily, that not all lash technicians are created equal. Bottom line: you want an excellent one. To the uninitiated, it is important to know that this art form is more than about just applying lashes. There has to be some level of talent or artistry and also an understanding of who the client is and what there needs are. This is what professionalism means. For this reason, I continue to have Phoebe do my lashes because she is excellent at what she does and my lashes consistently and with out fail, look perfect every time. I love them. And just a shout out to all those daughters that might be reading this review: do something nice for your mom if she's not feeling great about herself. From time to time in a woman's life this happens, particularly in middle age. Give her a big hug, tell her you love her and get her an appointment with Phoebe, she will walk out feeling like a million bucks. read more
