#1 Combination pho bowl - Awesome Bowl!
    Chuck M.

Another great experience at Pho Xe Lua with my brother. This place is truly a hidden gem and offers a genuine cultural dining experience. The menu is extensive, and everything we've tried has been fantastic. On our first visit, we were recommended #62--and it did not disappoint. After that, we knew we had to come back and try what they're really known for: their pho. This time, we both ordered the #1 combination pho bowl. The portions were huge, loaded with a great variety of meats, all in generous amounts. I went with the extra-large bowl--which was probably more than I needed (next time I'll stick with a large)--but it was absolutely worth it. We also ordered the ribs and egg rolls, and both were excellent additions to the meal. The service was good, and the pho itself was well above average--rich, flavorful, and satisfying. While the location is a bit off the beaten path, it's absolutely worth the visit. I'm already looking forward to coming back again soon. Great food, great experience, every time.

    Pho Dac Biet

I may have found my go-to spot for pho! The size large pho dac biet comes in ridiculously generous portions for only $15. I don't think I've ever encountered this much value at any other Vietnamese restaurant. The broth tastes above average and I liked the tripe+meatballs the most out of the assorted proteins. I also sampled my friend's charbroiled pork and rice which deserves equal praise. Similar to the pho, it's a huge portion and has an excellent savory flavor to it. Acceptably clean restrooms (ahem, by Viet restaurant standards) and well-kept dining area. Get ready to big back at this restaurant.

Shrimp & Boiled Pork Spring Roll

We were in the town and wanted to explore some good pho, and found this place on my want to go list. I ordered the small Combination House Special beef rice noodle soup; it came with rare steak, flank, brisket, tendon, tripe, and beef balls. It also came with a good amount of side veggies, which was a big plus. The broth was decent, and the portion was generous. I honestly doubted whether it was really a small bowl. I also tried their Shrimp & Boiled Pork Spring Rolls. This was a letdown; the wrapper was loose, and the pork was quite dry. Even though the rolls were huge, I didn't find anything special about them. I ordered the Vietnamese Iced Coffee with Condensed Milk as well, and this was another disappointment. The coffee was not strong enough or sweet enough, and it ended up being quite bitter. This was my first time having a Vietnamese coffee that tasted bitter. I would recommend skipping their Vietnamese coffee.

#15: large phở bò viên (pho with beef balls)

This review is slightly overdue. I visited Pho Xe Lua in Sacramento, CA [5331 Stockton Blvd] on Thursday, 10/30/25, around 10 AM. I ordered the #15: large phở bò viên (pho with beef balls). The bowl was huge and filling, and the broth was extremely palatable. The entire soup was comforting, especially on a chilly day. The interior of the restaurant had plenty of tables and chairs available. The service was friendly and attentive, and the price points were fairly affordable. Pho Xe Lua is one of my favorite pho restaurants in Sacramento. I will definitely return in the future.

    grilled beef vermicelli noodles

We were recommended Pho Xe Lua by a friend so we decided to swing by for lunch on a Saturday. The restaurant is quite big so fortunately we were able to get seated quickly. We got the shrimp spring rolls, grilled beef vermicelli noodles, and a viet iced coffee the shrimp spring rolls were not bad flavor wise, but I felt that it was wrapped kind of loosely the grilled beef vermicelli noodles were served on a plate, which was the first time I got a plate for this dish. Usually I get it in a bowl. However serving wise, it was quite a big plate of vermicelli noodles and the grilled beef had good flavor. The coffee was a little lacking, just not sweet enough for viet iced coffee. I think Pho Xe Lua is not bad, definitely good value for what you get

Have you ever wanted a mountain of food? If not, Pho Xue Le is for you lol. The pho bowls are insanely huge. They use soup bowls used for banquets that should be for 12 bowls of soup but for one massive bowl of pho. Recently wanted to try something new, and every other dish is also just as big! Don't expect much from service, but it's not that bad lol. Upon the entrance there is a water feature that doesn't look like it's been turned on in quite a while, and it does look sad, but don't let that get you down! Maybe they are saving the water bill because they put so much soup in the pho!

Old school Vietnamese spot; I believe one of a handful that opens at 9:00am! Decided to stop in after a meeting, and sure glad I did! Greeted immediately upon entering and was seated within seconds. Ambience a little dated, with the traditional light green paint and decor of Chinese characters prob Chinese New Year decor. Menu is very extensive and broad, from Pho to rice plates to stir fry items to noodle dishes to boba drinks! I got the medium rare beef with tripe pho (I don't really do the other traditional items) and also had fried chicken wings (8 to an order). Pho broth was flavorful, and the noodles were plentiful along with fresh produce. Beef and tripe were decent amount. The wings...best I've had in a while...came out piping hot ...plump, juicy and flavorful. I would highly recommend this place if you're hungry and have a craving for Pho for breakfast! Expect to pay a bit for an entree and appetizer; I got outta there paying $33 including tips. Not disappointed though!

I came to Pho Xe Lua with the intention of ordering pho, but once I saw the menu, I realized they had a great variety of options beyond just soups. Their appetizers also looked really tempting, but I didn't have the appetite to go all out that day. I ended up ordering the shrimp curry over rice, and let me tell you -- it was such an amazing plate. I haven't had something this flavorful and satisfying in a long time. The curry was rich, well-seasoned, and comforting without being too heavy. It also came with a bowl of broth on the side, which I assume is meant to be poured over the rice. I didn't use it since I prefer my rice not too wet, but I did take a sip at the end and it was incredibly flavorful on its own. I also ordered a taro drink without boba, and it was super creamy and smooth -- exactly how a good taro drink should be. I forgot what my friend ordered, but it's shown in the photos, and I did try a bite of his dish, which was also really good. We came during the week around 2 PM, and it wasn't busy at all. We were seated right away, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, this was a great visit, and I definitely want to come back to try more items on the menu -- including the pho next time. Highly recommend giving this place a try if you're in the area.

First time where. Location look sketchy from the outside. Spacious and clean on the inside. Loving the large painting they have. Combination Phở was ok, let hubby. Noodles was too soggy. Broth not very flavorful. Fish sauce fried chicken wings: I LOVE it! Batter shrimp: Tom Rang Moi: it was good but needs a little more flavor. Good services. Will go again to try other food.

    Catfish stew
    Tien D.

This Vietnamese restaurant has been a reliable place for good food in the South Sacramento area. I have been multiple times over the years and it has never let me down. This time, I had the catfish stew and vermicelli noodles that come with the rice paper wraps. The catfish was perfectly sour and flavorful. The wraps came with veggies, shrimp and a protein of your choice. Service was efficient and the restaurant was clean. Pay at the counter when you are done.

    Chicken chow fun
    Robert H.

I ordered delivery from Pho Xe Lua today after having eaten here before and enjoying the food and even friendly staff. I ordered 3 items, 1 of which was the chicken chow fun #60. Unfortunately, the vegetables described in this dish were not included at all. The description mentions mushrooms, carrots and broccoli. The chow fun I received was your typical Chinese style chow fun which would be fine if that's what matched the description. My other two dishes of beef chow fun and the #30 were good and tasty. I was the unlucky one who felt a little disappointed with my lunch. This won't stop me from ordering again but I'm a little wary.

a great pit stop en route from tahoe to sf! big portions, great prices (a small was more than enough), delicious fried chicken. service and ambiance typical of a vietnamese resto -- fast, no-nonsense.

Ask the Community - Pho Xe Lua

Do you have vegan options (no eggs, dairy, fish, meat)?

Yes, we have vegan options. We have tofu spring rolls, pepper salted tofu, and vegetarian broth. You can order a vegetarian pho with vegetarian soup base. The default soup is chicken so please let us know you prefer vegetarian.

Is the pho gluten free (does the broth contain any boullion, soy sauce, hoisin or other gluten seasonings or sauces)?

It does not contain any of the listed items. We use bones for our broth.

    Do you offer keto noodles?

Hello, Our noodles are made of rice or egg. I don’t believe they are Keto.

Are there any gluten free noodles available?

The rice noodles used in our pho is gluten free as they are made of rice and not wheat.

Do you guys cater and where can I find the cater menu?

We offer trays for pick up. We have two sizes, 10 x 20 and 20 x 20. Please call 916-451-8838 for pricing as it depends on what you order. All party trays need to be paid at the time of ordering.

Anyone used a gift card here? I bought one online but they won't accept it, the last few times I went.

Please call the restaurant and ask for Tina.

Is your pho and broth gluten free?

    No.

Do you happen to have a vegetarian pho option? Like if I order Pho, can I request vegetarian broth and tofu instead of the meat broth and meat?

Yes, we do. Please specify that you want vegetarian broth as chicken broth is the default. You can add white or deep fried tofu for $3.50. The rest are all vegetables, no meat.

Do they have banh mi sandwiches here? I don't see it on their menu but seen someone post a picture of it

    Not that I've ever seen.

Do they do party trays or catering?

Yes, they do. They offer a 10 x 12 party tray for a lot of items and it fits 30 pieces of the Cream Cheese Wontons or Pepper Salted Wings. Are you looking for something in particular?

Do they have a ground beef or ground pork and ginger based pho? I've had this at some other places and loved it.

Hi Nicole, I'm pretty sure I've never seen that there. They used to do it at Pho Saigon Bay and it was amazing but I hear they changed it there...

Still pretty busy but we didn't have to wait for a table. It's not your traditional Chinese dim sum restaurant with the carts walking down the aisle and you picking what you want. Here, they give you the menu and you mark down how many items you want. Both dim sum and traditional dishes are on there. Price wise, it's fairly decent but some dishes were a bit pricey compared to other places. Still worth checking out. Mark what you want on the menu which they then take and dishes are brought out. Of course we had to have the classic. Shu Mai and so on. Bbq pork slices, Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce, sticky rice in banana leaves, to name a few. The dim sum did come out pretty fast. Classic Chinese dishes like the chow fun did come out a little later as it had to be made. Overall, the food was quite tasty. I do see why my friends did recommend this place. It was a nice crowd of people that was here for brunch. Loads of family enjoying their meal. For our group, the bill came just under 300. They did include gratuities to it which they did inform us. We got a decent amount of dim sum as well as the other dishes. Food was good and service was great. All the staffs were very friendly and sweet. Drinks were refilled pretty fast after asking. Would definitely be back when we're in the area.

I was eating their fried rice and bit on a piece of broken yellow plastic with multiple sharp points. Prior to that, I was feeding my toddler the rice so THANKFULLY it didn't go to him. When we told the server, which was an older lady with glasses and bangs, she's like oh... then she took it to the kitchen and pretended that nothing had ever happened when she came back out. Shes been there for years, and I remember seeing her when we were regulars. I wasn't expecting anything, except for some accountability. I used to love this place so it's pretty sad to see how much it went downhill.... This business needs to be scrapped. The current 3 stars is giving them too much credit and it must have been due to when they used to be good, in the past.
