One of the least expensive meals I had while in Honolulu, and one of the best. I dined her 3 times over the course of 2 weeks and having left, I wish I'd done so even more often! I had the Pho, vermicelli noodles with pork, and the spring rolls. None of which were even remotely disappointing. My only regret is that I don't have a Vietnamese restaurant this good back home! While you're here, hit up Ayaka Bubble just 3 doors down - free WiFi and excellent teas, bubble tea, and coffee. Friendly staff, reasonable prices, simple atmosphere and great food. This spot is barely a 5 min walk from our apartment, and it's a gem! No, there isn't a great atmosphere and it's not the cleanest place, but it's fantastic food for a good price, especially considering all the surrounding places tend to be very expensive (duh, it's Waikiki). My husband and I were on our fifth trip back to Honolulu to visit my family this past week. My cousin who lives there recommended this restaurant. At first we were a little bit hesitant not because it is a "hole in the wall" but some shady people were always milling around outside whenever we drove by. We decided it was worth an adventure. I ordered a pho and it was just as tasty as any other pho I've ever had. The spring rolls were very crispy and fresh out of the fryer. My husband had the grilled pork with vermicelli noodles. Please please don't be an idiot and get scared off by the outward appearance of this place. Yes it's across the parking lot from a 7-eleven, but that's actually convenient if you are thirsty for a big gulp.....Yes it's under a bar and yes it is next door to a laundromat but hey....open your mind and appreciate the brilliant conveniences located within 100 feet of each other - one stop fun. So the food was very good. Their portions were good, flavors were great. Service efficient and friendly. Pho was tasty, vermicelli noodles with grilled pork outstanding. Fresh spring rolls great too. They had plenty of hot chili paste available and didn't give me the stink eye when I asked for extra with a to-go order like some places do. They make the food to order and seem to genuinely care about your visit. We found this gem last week and have already ordered takeout twice. We've had their vermicelli rolls and summer rolls with different meats and they were all delicious - especially the bbq chicken. My friend SWEARS by this place so I brought my mama here. Order a large combo pho, extra broth, and shrimp and squid in lemon grass, and the bahn-mi. The service here is painfully slow.. Pho: they use a lot of star anise. By a lot, I do mean a lot! It was very very "herby". The flavor of the broth was definitely developed and good. The broth had a Chinese medicine like after taste and the smell is very pungent. It could be due to the star anise tho. My mom too thought the pho was mediocre. Shrimp and squid: definitely disappointing. The shrimp and squid were both over cooked. Squid was very rubbery. Sad sad sad... I love squid but couldn't finish the dish... Bahn Mi: I lived NorCal and used to hit this bahn-mi place off of International Blvd in Oakland--which probably ruined me forever.. I was looking for the crunch that leaves bread crumbs all over as well as the smooth and creamy Pate'. Didn't get either.... why oh why.... it tasted like a normal sandwich with cilantro. read more

I came in to order a small bowl of pho, and the guy at the counter rudely said they only have larges to go. Then when it came time to write my signature for my card, he watched my hand as I debated whether to leave a tip when he is just working the cash register. I left $2 tip because he was watching, when he probably shouldn't have been tipped at all. That's not the bad part (though that part still sucks).... I said that I will do that (get the large to go), and what they gave me was raw meat and cold noodles / bean sprouts in one container, warm broth in another, and the greens separate in no container but in the bag. I don't know if I was supposed to cook the meat at home, or it's supposed to be eaten raw! Rather than risk food poisoning, I threw it all out. A waste of $15. read more

This place doesn't even deserve a star. Place is dirty, food was not good and the owner was horribly rude. My kids dropped a pair of chopsticks and had to get a new one. When the owner brought the food, she immediately yelled at my kids and gave them dirty looks. Were my kids supposed to eat chopsticks that fell on the dirty ground? Then she head back to the kitchen to tell the others and they advised her to overcharge my bill or put dirty vegetables in our soup bowls. Really??? For a cheap pair of wooden to-go chopsticks? Luckily, I understood what they were saying and confronted her immediately. She still defended her actions and made a bigger scene when I was paying. I highly recommend you not to go here- God forbid if you don't understand the language or you accidentally use more than one napkin or chopstick. read more

The gentleman helping us was very nicely dressed, the menu was typical Vietnamese/Pho restaurant. The food was good, we had Summer Rolls, Grilled Chicken on Vermicelli, Bun Rieu (Crab Soup), and iced coffee. All the dishes tasted "clean" and flavorful. This is a very solid Vietnamese restaurant. Everything across the menu is delicious and satisfying. Their pho broth is heavy on the citrus which makes it tastier and on the stronger side in my opinion. It makes me sweat every time. Service is generally nice and they leave you alone, which I like. Once they double charged me but they were nice and quick about reimbursing me back. I think I like this place a lot more than I should because it's my neighborhood pho place and I don't have to drive 20 miles for it like I had to back in Washington, and it's a very comparable establishment, even though it's a dive and even next to a dive bar (the Irish Rose)! Parking is spotty but it is Waikiki so it's either a great neighborhood place if you live/work around here or a nice quiet place to tuck into for lunch or dinner while you're out on the town but why would you choose a nondescript pho joint when you've got all the other Waikiki food options? read more

I had very high hopes for this place as I am usually a huge fan of local small random shops but my experience here was really disappointing. I stopped in to order some fresh rolls and papaya salad to go, figuring these would be quick to prepare as I needed to get back for a presentation. I waited over 1 hour for my food, after multiple other customers came, ate, and left. When I finally got back to eat my food, the shrimp was limp, the salad was sour and not crunchy at all and overall nothing outstanding redeemed the experience and now I'm left hungry and frustrated. Went and ordered takeout Pho tonight with the round & flank steak. The owner was very nice and helped me out with different suggestions. This was very delicious broth, noodles, meat, veggies and bread. The serving size was huge with a very reasonable cost. We will be going back very soon to try different options. This little shop, tucked away in the back of a mini plex was an interesting find. We were headed to the airport so we needed a quick fix lunch for a hangover. Although we didn't tell them we were in a rush, the food came out fast! Tasty and yum. I ordered a regular beef and tendon pho. The boy ordered the beef combo pho (has a little bit of everything). The soup still had a slight sweet taste, maybe its a Hawaiian thing? Huge plate of sprouts and basil accompanied and was very fresh! Of course I had to get pho even on vacation in hawaii. I came here with the duke himself and they welcomed us with open arms. Lucky for us we were able to get parking right in the front of the restaurant. Parking is not the best there. We placed our order and the food came out fairly quickly. I was semi sad that they served lemons instead of limes but I am assuming prices of limes are high at the moment. Its hard to have a good bowl of pho without limes. I also noticed that they didn't put cilantro in it either not a deal breaker for me but definitely not authentic enough for me. Broth was okay and better than other pho places I've been to on the island. What I really liked was their noodles. It gave a really homemade feeling. I would use those types of noodles when cooking it at home. All in all I would come back here because it was still delicious but it wasn't my favorite. read more

Decided to try viet for lunch and found this place. Was a group of 4 adults and one 3 year old. Dude insisted we had to sit at a 4 top and so we had to get our own chair to seat our child. Didn't find the service friendly but the food was good. A medium bowl of pho was not as big as a medium elsewhere and they were skimpy on the noodles. Same with the chicken vermicelli bowl. The chicken curry was a bright yellow bowl of curry that lacked the depth of flavour and curry flavour that I'm accustomed to. It tasted like they used a different type of curry powder.
