The beef flank steak was so hard and chewy I had to spit most of it out. We told the owner she substituted Shrimp. I asked where is the basil leaves, lime etc for the Pho. While the food was decent. It was our first visit there was a sign that says please wait to be seated but no one greeted us or provided any direction so we sat down at a table still nothing. Another patron comes in she was greeted order taken at counter. So I go up to counter place order. My husband and I both got pho and the broth was the best we've ever had! We started with the crab Rangoon, which were so creamy, and the steamed dumplings. The portions are huge and it was the perfect chilly day dinner. We can't wait to come back and try more things on the menu because so many things looked amazing!! It's a very diverse menu and you can tell the food is authentic. The women working were seen in the back cutting up fresh vegetables for an order, which was so nice to see. I hate giving restaurants 2 stars. I ordered and 1 hour later, as we absolutely needed to leave, finally got my order. I saw an egg in it (not listed in the menu) and tried taking it off and it was an uncooked yolk. Eggs gives me hives, no thankyou. I got the egg off the food and it went every where. You order on IPads. The menu is small and don't forget the page of the menu, bubble tea which I didn't see. I would've ordered. I ended up with my food to go and it was fair. 2 stars. I hate to give this place 2 stars but, the service was absolutely horrible. Not only could the young man not answer any general questions about the menu, he had no awareness about personal space. In general, he just seemed very inexperienced. Personally, the way the restaurant is set, you don't need a waiter. The owner should consider reconfiguring the space where you pay first, pick up your order yourself when it's ready and self serve drinks from the fountain and grab your veggies for pho. That could help improve the dining experience overall. The space is super tight....like very tight. Not ideal for large parties. Ramen broth was a bit lackluster. It required extra sauces and seasonings to make it just right. Also, the Korean tacos are a neat concept but, I would recommend a different shell other than the plain flour tortilla or, at least warm it. Sadly it tasted like it was pulled straight from the pack and filled with ingredients. Lastly, if you're looking for the place after dark it may be hard to find because the building sign had no back lighting. With some improvements this place can be better. read more

Pho La La is a cute, hole-in-the-wall pho and ramen bar definitely worth a visit. Pho La La is quite unassuming form the outside, located in a strip with several other businesses. I was hardly expecting the bright, modern vibe on the inside, or the 80s/90s/00s pop music playing in the background (surprising, but always one of my favorites!). I went on a Friday around lunchtime, and although the restaurant is small and fairly busy, I was still able to get a table pretty quickly. At my server's recommendation, I ordered chicken spring rolls and beef pho. The spring rolls are rolled in-house and tasted extremely fresh. The chicken was wonderfully seasoned, and they were served with a warm peanut sauce almost like liquid peanut butter. They're certainly some of my favorite spring rolls in KC, and I definitely recommend getting some when you visit. The pho, too, was pretty darn good. If I had one complaint, it would be that Pho La La goes a bit light on the meat compared to other places I've been to. Additionally, the pepper in the broth didn't quite stay in suspension, and instead sunk to the bottom creating a peppery slosh when the broth was almost finished. But overall, I have no major complaints and quite enjoyed the meal. Overall, Pho La La would become one of my favorite lunch spots if I lived nearby. The atmosphere is nice, the pho pretty good, and the spring rolls superb. I'd highly recommend it to any noodle pho-natics in the area. (Bad pun? I'll see myself out now--after grabbing another spring roll!) EDIT: Ramen! I came in again to try the ramen, and I opted for Spicy Korean Chicken. Overall, it was pretty decent. The chicken was flavored well if a bit dry, and the spicy cabbage worked well. The corn was sweet, adding great texture and flavor to the dish. The one complaint I have is the mushrooms seemed sloppily chopped into all different shapes and sizes, and the flavor was so strong it overpowered everything else in the dish--I ended up taking the mushroom out so I could enjoy the rest of the bowl. If you're craving ramen, it'll get the job done. But if I come back, it'll be for the pho. read more

Yes, I give this place a perfect rating which is unusual for me. The food was amazing. We passed a family on the way out who were waiting for a table. I said, "You're in for a treat!" The mom informed me that they had found this place 3 days ago and were already back. The only negatives: The backend of the house, toward the bathrooms, could be cleaner. The self-serve sides area could be cleaner, more sanitary. The first dish I grabbed had some leftover noodle on it. And the place is very small so you may be waiting a few minutes. So here's the thing, I don't know if I'm a pho fan or not yet. I've had it a couple of times and thought it was flavorful. I've heard it was good for intestinal health and who doesn't want healthy guts, right? What I am a fan of is good customer service. I experienced that here. I stopped in about 3 weeks ago for lunch. I ordered a bowl of pho and told the man working I was just learning about it. I asked a couple of questions about their shrimp spring rolls and ordered them too. The broth was good - not as flavorful as I remember having elsewhere but good. There were enough noodles in this bowl to feed a small village. I found the spring rolls pretty bland. I did put some of the peanut sauce on them, but not a lot. Not a fan, really. But, I didn't know if spring rolls were supposed to taste like this or not. I'd never had anything like them and decided to take a chance in ordering them. Here's the kicker... at check out, the man (manager?owner?) who checked me out gave me a figure that was too low. I told him I thought there was a mistake. He explained he'd noticed I didn't seem to care for the spring rolls and didn't want to charge me for the full order. Whhaaattt?? I hadn't complained about them, I just didn't eat them. They could have tasted exactly like spring rolls were supposed to taste like - I didn't know! I told him how much I appreciated the gesture but I wasn't comfortable not paying for perfectly good food that I had ordered - just because it wasn't to my taste didn't make it his fault. I insisted on paying for them and did. So, especially after I had had such a horrible experience in Sedona, AZ lately with someone not wanting to be accountable for the poor quality food or service, it was refreshing to be in a situation where someone was wanting to do the right thing. I'll probably try a different type of pho next time and probably won't order the shrimp spring rolls at all. But, I'm going in on an adventure to learn more and appreciate this quaint little hometown Vietnamese restaurant with a commitment to excellent customer service. read more

A great addition to Lee's Summit restaurants! Few things better on a 16 degree day than a hot steaming huge bowl of Asian broth, noodles, and meat (or mushrooms) of your choice. Pho comes with 2 spring rolls (also delicious) and a bar of toppings including limes, Thai basil, bean sprouts, & jalapeños. Décor is clean & modern (mostly black & white) with benches & stools rather than chairs & booths. (There are a few chairs if you're a person who needs a backrest.) Our server was excellent, very helpful. Menus were on digital tablets, which was kind of fun--I watched the server clean them off before presenting them to us. I've been wanting to try this place since it opened but haven't found the right time until now. It seems that my patience paid off as they seemed to work out all the kinks that some of the other less than amazing reviews have mentioned. First, let's address the pho itself. The broth is flavorful and not too clean. You can taste the warm traditional pho spices and the umami that can only come from hours of stewing beef bones. It's not cloudy, so the cook took time to clean the bones... which is a step one would take if they really care, considering a cloudy broth wouldn't affect the flavor. The portion is perfect. The garnish is done on a serve yourself basis, so you'll always get exactly what you want. The lunch option is affordable at $9 and comes with a spring roll. I'd say this is absolute steal! Pho not your jam? No worries, there are several other options to choose from. I went with the lemongrass chicken rice bowl. Which was good, but I personally prefer a stronger lemongrass flavor on my protein. I'd give it 4 stars. And the best part is they just started offering boba tea! The boba is tender and a great price at $4. This is a great alternative to the corporate coffee shop just on the other side of the street. I would totally recommend this place to anyone looking for something new. I'm so happy that Lee's Summit's food scene finally has more variety. Hopefully this is a sign of what's to come! read more

The restaurant is super small with extremely limited seating. I personally think that there is better pho other places, but I love that this little place is in Lee's Summit! When she learned we were dinning in she was very snarky and stated "umm.. ok sit where ever!" Several employees working in the restaurant and only one table of four seated besides my party. Floor was extremely dirty and employees were standing around doing nothing / talking.
