Needed some noodles and hot soup after my late round at Torrey Pines. Found Pho La Jolla about 10 minutes away south on the 5 freeway. My beef flank and rare steak pho was delicious. The metal bowl was filled to the brim and tasty. A bit disappointed as they did not have the pork egg rolls, just the vegetarian egg rolls. They have a lot of other things on their menu as well. Service was good, waitress was friendly and had the World Cup on (Uzbek vs Colombia). She was like me, a futbol (soccer fan) like me every 4 years, lol. Plenty of parking, tons of table. Pho La Jolla was legit. read more

Made a takeout order with my roommate who is vegan and her soup was straight up water... My pho had no flavor whatsoever which is diabolical for a ~$20 pho. Can't speak much on the service but the staff who took our order was chill. The restaurant is located in a mini plaza right next to dominos and has plenty of seats and is open late. I wouldn't recommend this place if you can go elsewhere especially if you want authentic pho. read more

Well. I came here about 10 years ago and compared to that experience, it's an improvement. I ordered the combination pho. It's decent. Soup had good depth of flavor and everything. The meat was pretty good. But the soup was on a bit salty side. And i thought it needed more flavor of the aroma. Almost 5 star experience. read more

Our friend was staying nearby and didnt have much time, so we decided to meet here since it was a block away from their lodging. It wasn't bad. But it wasn't that good either. Im not sure if it was just an off day, because while we were eating, they had a steady amount of customers doing take out and quite a few people dining in. Got the #3 and the broth was just so so. Also got a grilled pork banh mi and that was just so so as well. The pork was chewy and the "house sauce spread" looked like mayonnaise. The staff were really nice. Lots of seating inside. Unfortunately i don't think we would return here. read more

If you're looking for authentic vietnamese food, this isn't the spot you're looking for. we got the bun bo hue and filet mignon skillet. The bun bo hue did not taste like bun bo hue. it kind of tasted like watered down broth with chili oil. we got it with rare steak and tendon and the rare steak had a funny taste to it. they also only gave us 2 pieces of tendon. it was really disappointing so if you are someone who loves vietnamese food, you will be very disappointed. the filet mignon skillet was questionable. there was no pate and the seasoning was not authentic. it was also a really small portion for the price. if you're in a pinch or looking for late night food, maybe this could be for you. but don't expect anything authentic or flavorful read more

My sister and I recently visited Pho La Jolla--it's become a cherished tradition to get Vietnamese food either right before or after she flies out of San Diego, and this is officially our new go-to spot! This restaurant truly is a cultural icon in La Jolla, serving absolutely phenomenal, high-quality Vietnamese cuisine. We were lucky enough to meet the owner, Tammy, and her husband, and sitting next to them and hearing about their 17 years of building this successful, fantastic business was such a highlight. We took their suggestions on food, and everything was fantastic! From the crispy fried spring rolls and refreshing fresh spring rolls to the perfectly seasoned wings and the truly amazing rib pho, every dish was a winner. It was all seasoned and cooked to perfection. Thank you, Tammy and husband, for the incredible hospitality and the wonderful food. We can't wait to come back. Everyone must try this place--it's more than just a restaurant; it's a staple of the community! read more

Pho La Jolla is another one of the student-oriented businesses in the Villa La Jolla Plaza south of the UCSD campus. They close at 10 pm every day which is conducive for the night owls. If you come in the evening, then open parking spaces are likely, but forget about it during daylight hours. The seating capacity in the dining room was sufficient for around 60 customers. A limited time menu card along with a two-sided laminated menu sheet was placed at each table. Noodle salads (bun), fried rice, egg noodles, and beverages were listed on one side. The other side displayed the pho, appetizers, steamed rice, and banh mi sandwiches. The weather has cooled off considerably so on this evening I selected one of the 17 bowls of pho which was a Seafood mix of fishcake, fishball, squid, and shrimp. A standard platter of garnishments (basil, bean sprouts, jalapenos, lime) was provided on the side. My bowl took about 15 minutes to prepare which seemed long considering only two other parties were seated. The traditional rice noodles were clumped in the middle of the broth which was not appealing. There were two pieces of each seafood item. The broth didn't have a depth of flavor like other Viet joints in the Convoy District or Little Saigon. Prices were $16.95 and up for all of the pho varieties that contained a protein. That seemed high especially if the primary customer base is the campus residents. I gave three stars for the quality and price of my food at Pho La Jolla. read more

Ok, so there are many mixed reviews about this place on all the platforms. Let me break it down for you: If you are American, or you are living near UCSD with no car and you need a Vietnamese fix: This is the not bad and probably the best for you, while having the pho fl. If you are Viet, or you have a car: This is not the place. Lower your expectations. The bun Bo hue had no pork blood, and the special pho had no meatballs. The flavor was pretty watered down, yet had the herby taste. You can decide if it is worth going. read more

Pho La Jolla is located down the street from UCSD. It might be the closest pho shop to the college campus students. I remember it used to be the pho shop all us students went to back in college. Its been many years since I ate here, so I decided to stop by and try it out. Oh gosh is it awful. So so awful... I wanted a shrimp and pork spring roll for an appetizer. Nope, they didn't have it. I looked around the menu and noticed many other dishes were missing. Ok... So i went right tonordering the rare and well done steak pho. The soup was barely hot enough to coook the steak. Still had a lot of red showing. The broth was tasteless and the pho, stiff. Not much to say about the staff and service. Not much to comment about the restaurant atmosphere. Its get in, eat bad pho, and out you go... Pretty bad... read more

The pho was absolutely bland and tasteless. Real pho has visual oily in the broth, this didn't. The broth does not taste good and the meat is very greasy. My wife and I have been dining here @ La Jolla Phò, for the past 15+ years. It is our go to spot! The ambiance is quaint, with a welcome home type of atmosphere. I promise, they have something for everyone! With a vast menu, that covers the absolute "Best" & "Colossal" bowls of Phó in San Diego county. So over the past decade and a half we tried every dish on the menu. Just when you thought, it couldn't get any better than this. Bam Tammy the owner launched "Cajun Seafood Boil" Now I'm a carnivore so I tried the New "BBQ Pork Buns" mmm.. pillowy soft buns filled with savory & slightly sweet bbq pork. Mouth watering! My wife the pescatarian ordered the "Bowl" she chose "Clams, Mussels and Shrimp" the set-up was priceless. Butcher paper for a table cloth, equipped with a bib, and gloves. (Definitely needed) she described the flavor as "Smoky, spicy, and aromatic, with a robust and complex flavor" but you can choose your spice level. She gave it her all and fell short to finishing it. All I can say is this "mom and pop shop" is a diamond in the rough!! Shame on you if you don't try it. Needed to add all of the photos! read more

I had the ultimate hotpot experience at Pho La Jolla! I recently enjoyed the salmon hotpot, and it was nothing short of amazing. The broth came in a divided pot--one side tangy and spicy with tomatoes, onions, and chili, the other rich and savory. The flavors alone could be a meal, but what truly made it special is everything I got to cook in it. The veggie platter was overflowing with freshness: bok choy, spinach, mushrooms, pumpkin, eggplant, and a rainbow of other greens that balanced perfectly with the broth. Each bite soaked up the flavor beautifully. The highlight was the salmon. Generous cuts of fresh, vibrant orange salmon fillet arrived topped with sesame, scallions, and cilantro. Paired with rice noodles and slivers of red onion, it made every spoonful hearty and satisfying. Cooking the salmon gently in the broth brought out a buttery texture that I have not had anywhere else. I loved the variety--every bowl was different- as I mixed noodles, salmon, and vegetables in different combinations. It was fun, interactive, and nourishing all at once. I enjoyed the meal because it was flavorful, healthy, and exciting to eat. I have been going there for years, but this new dish is already my favorite. I left full, happy, and already planning my next visit. The service was outstanding! read more

My kids and I came here for dinner after the UC San Diego graduation. This place is terrible, do not come here if you are looking for authentic food! The food was pricy and did not reach my expectations at all. The plate I ordered was over $20 and only had a small portion of food. Worst of all, they included tax in the bills already without notifying us! Service was terrible and the atmosphere was uncomfortable. The old man working at the front made us feel very uncomfortable and kept staring at us. 0/10, would not recommend this place to anyone and definitely won't be coming here again! read more

When it was time to pay for the foods, there was no invoice but a machine to pay and stated percentage of tips or custom tips, at the bottom there was the total, so I ask the owner for invoice, turn out to be the tips already included with 18% which there was no service at all! When I asked the owner if tips already included he said yes, this is the most shady restaurant I've been to so far. How can restaurant already customize tips and not mention to customers so they expect double tips or something? My suggestion is not to go to this restaurant or make sure you ask for invoice before you pay read more

I came down with some kind of cough/ could thing with a lot of congestion, and I have been eating lunch here literally every day for several days now. Bf and I ordered two phos and wings, we had a couple wings and some soup before I noticed something crawling around in the wing sauce. We were on a lunch break from a conference and ventured here. I wanted to love it as we have many Vietnamese places in Hawaii. Sadly I was disappointed. Service was slow and there was no ac. Eating phõ in a hot restaurant is horrible. My tofu bahn mi was good though I only wanted the sandwich and not meal which seemed to be an option according to the menu. I was already ordering phõ so would not need another soup nor rolls. The server did not seem to understand and brought me a meal and charged me for it. The phõ was plentiful. However, due to the uncomfortable atmosphere, I could not enjoy my food. The sandwich was more than enough therefore I could not indulge in the phõ so that was a total waste. The bbq pork was like char siu and a huge disappointment that my brother just left it. The workers seemed friendly, just slow to arrive with food or replenishing drinks. read more

I have come here a few times in general the food is good however they have a very unorganized system as far as taking orders and paying , my order took about 30 minutes which is a long time for pho in my opinion. Unfortunately, my experience here was quite disappointing. Even though we ordered before the table next to us, they received all their food first while we waited endlessly. I don't blame it because when I walked in and was greeted by its sweet aroma of pho broth. While I ponder on the menu on what shall I have with the pho dish. This place is promoting these pepper chicken for $19.90. I figured why not give that a try. Well, I think it's Vietnamese style of pepper chicken wings they covered it with oyster sauce!!
