Not sure if they are trying to tailor their food to what they think the community wants/an American palate, if they are, they are doing a disservice. Pho! In Kapaa! Finding this Vietnamese restaurant was great on Kauai, since I had been craving Pho since the day before. I guess you would call me a pho junkie. Being that said, I thought that the reviews here were kind of the same. It was just okay. I tended to say the same. The Pho itself was delicious and the service was simple, but just average you would find in any Vietnamese restaurant in Hawaii. I came here on a recent Saturday afternoon after picking up my race packet @ the 2014 Kauai marathon and needed that Pho fix. You know how it is when you need that daily fix. Talk about coffee lovers! I guess it's how it is with addicts. :) Pho Kapaa is located in the heart of Kapaa at the Kailua Village Shopping Center in Kapaa, kind of borders on Wailua, but Kapaa all the same. The parking situation can be a mixed bag of busy and not so busy, but there are plenty of parking here. This Vietnamese restaurant very much accepts major credit cards, which is awesome as always. The restaurant itself is relatively small, simple and clean. Several artworks are displayed and the decor is good. Prices here are consistent with other Pho restaurants I have visited, although the server asked if I wanted the Super Bowl, which was 1/3 more meat and soup, but costs like $3.00 more. I declined about that, but wanted extra bean sprouts to make the meal extra crunchy. The ambiance here was quiet, calm, and comfortable. The place was kind of empty on a Saturday afternoon, but I'm glad that it was open. I also ordered an order of summer rolls, which was prepared on ordering. The taste was good and delicious. Dipping it into the shiracha infused peanut sauce made the world fade away. Pretty good bliss. With the Pho, I ordered the combination pho, which was already standard in the lexicon, so that was a tight meal to enjoy. They gave more broth than noodles, but that's probably the conventional practice. The broth itself was darker than most I have seen, so it was richer and more flavorful than the others. The extra bean sprouts proved to be one of the game changers here, but could've been better with extra noodles, but that can be done next time. I would say that the experience here at Pho Kapaa is positive and good, but average to be honest. The location is perfect in Kapaa, if you don't want to drive to the nearest Vietnamese restaurant, which is in Lihue. Pho Kapaa is okay. I came here for lunch one day with my friend. We both ordered a bowl of pho. It was not bad, but it was not great either. The noodles were a little mushy from being overcooked. The broth was a little bland. However, it was a cheap and filling meal that temporarily satisfied my pho craving. Aside from pho, there are rice dishes, noodle dishes, and sandwiches. The menu has a nice variety, and it has vegetarian options too. Just don't go here. Trust me I've been to other pho places where I didn't enjoy the food but still I don't write a bad review- this time I am. First off they overcharged us, I didn't realize it until after the fact. My wife ordered the Chicken Pho and got vegetable broth instead of beef broth. It was not good and she had to add a bunch of sauce into her soup. I wanted to play it safe and was gonna get a rice plate... instead I went for the birds nest. It wasn't even crispy and the serving size was meant for a child- quite small. We knew we were taking a risk going for Vietnamese food in Kauai, but we needed our fix. I was gonna go to the Lihue pho place but after reading a review about someone sneezing on his hand and then touching the Togo bags- gross and deal breaker for me. Pho choices on Kauai for the time being are pretty limited but since we love the stuff, we decided to stop in and grab a bowl. Pho in NYC is hit and miss but given that we were on the West Coast (far West), maybe we would have some luck. The decor is typical for a pho restaurant - spartan but comfortable enough for diners to enjoy. We tried the shrimp summer rolls (just so-so) and we each got a bowl of pho. The broth here is pretty good, clean tasting and strong tasting. The noodles here were a bit disappointing since they used rehydrated Thai rice noodles instead of fresh pho noodles (possibly because they're simply not available on Kauai). My main gripe was that there wasn't nearly enough meat for 12 bucks - 2 beef balls, bits of tendon and maybe 3 slices of steak. Thats pretty measly by any standard. Flavors however were pretty on point. Service was friendly and quick. Prices are ok but I think the lack of competition allows them to charge this. Not a bad bite but could've been better. read more

Super fast service, and they speak English. Their oxtail pho is $15.99 I didn't get it... but oxtail soup and pho are my favorite. Being Vietnamese, I know pho when I taste one! All these places that you call "good or delicious or way better", try ask them how much MSG they put in their pho. And then send a state representative down there who's allergic to MSG to test the amounts they put in it. That artificial flavor that makes you eat large amounts of broth, yeah.... that's what you're tasting. Anyway! Today we got the combination pho (pho dac biet) and chicken pho (pho ga). Ask for your steak to be on the outside put some lemon on it then simmer it in your broth. You can also ask to make your soup extra hot before it comes out. Ordered two front page Bun bo soups. One duck one beef. For those familiar with the typical amount of noodles you get, welll divide by 3. That's how much noodles you get. Broth is sorry. Had to add hosin, sriracha just to make it taste like something. Meat? One small bone with some meat on it. ONE! Rest of floating fat. No tripe, no thin sliced beef. Nothing but floating soft beef fat. No side vegetables for either soup. No lemon for either soup. Summer rolls peanut sauce was watery. The price came. $19 for each soup! I pointed to the fact that their menu page where Bun bo is states $11-14 range. Well apparently this was SPECIAL hence $19. Can't imagine what non-specials taste then!!!
