We just had a wonderful Pho dinner at this restaraunt! I had the #12 Pho dish and my husband had the #40 lemongrass chicken. Both of our dishes were superb. Pho is one of my comfort foods and this was exactly perfect. The service was exceptional and there were lots of locals. The pho dish was $9.50 and the lemongrass chicken was around $10. After going horseback riding, we were famished. We drove back to Kapaa and settled on this place. Was told their food is good. They were very busy, so luckily we found a table. Got seated. Person taking the orders, a younger guy was prompt with bringing the menu and waters. I ordered the Thai iced tea, spring rolls and the shrimp Pho. Sister ordered the veggie Pho. It took a while for our bowls of Pho to arrive, so we were experimenting with the different sauces on the table. I liked the one with garlic and oil, mixed with the dark sauce, plum sauce I was told. I was waiting for my Thai iced tea. Watching the workers, as I was facing the back, I could tell I wasn't going to get my iced tea. Had to remind them. Tea came, it was very dark in color, they added to much of the Thai tea into the drink. But it tasted ok. Finally our Phos came but no springrolls. It came after the Phos as they had to be reminded again. Older guy walked past our table with the spring rolls. Hmm. On the springrolls, it came with two basic sized pieces, cut in half, along with small lettuce pieces and shredded carrot and a small amount of rice noodles I think they were, and a small bowl of sauce. Six bucks, tasty but not worth it. On the Phos, my sisters pho was missing the tofu. She had to remind the older guy, who brought out the phos. He came back with the tofu. On my shrimp pho, it came with about six pieces of small shrimp. Not worth 13 bucks at all. We added in the sides of bean sprouts and Thai basil. Soup was very tasty using the chili garlic sauce and the plum sauce. We had to wait forever for the check. We sat there, waiting, waiting, and waiting. While the two workers were serving and cleaning off tables. My sister got up and told them we were ready for the check. Older guy brings the check, which was a piece of cheap receipt type paper, with the amounts handwritten on it, but not itemized. I walked the check up to the counter figuring I didn't want them to lose my credit card. Guy used a 7 inch IPad with a card reader attached on it. Swipes my card, I sign it, he says thank you but did not offer a receipt. I told him I need a receipt and he said they will send it to my email. But didn't ask for my email address. So I said how are you going to know my email address, then he goes to a screen so I could enter my email, I added it. As of the next day the receipt still hasn't shown up on my email. I wrote down the amount on a piece of paper just in case it's different when I get my cc statement. Sorry no pictures since my phone battery was dead. read more

Their food was delicious! I was getting over food poisoning and they recommended the beef pho broth to help give me some energy. I was afraid it'd be oily, but it was really smooth, well-made, and authentic, and absolutely made me feel better. The next day, we came back for another meal and I ordered the fried rice. 8.9.17 had the papaya salad with pork and shrimp. 5 out of 10. The essential sauce was lacking flavor. True to Vietnamese sauce it has to be made with fish sauce, sugar, garlic, water and some chili. The sauce here at Pho Kapaa and Pho Kauai are simply bland, bland and more bland. Next came the staple Vietnamese noodle Pho. I had the tendon pho, wife had the special and child had the flank & meatballs. While the place does have the aroma of Pho the flavoring was close to authentic but the salty level was not enough and the sweet taste of pho was not quite there yet. I give them more credit for using fresh pho noodles which is harder to find. Over all, it's an 8 out of 10 but no way is it a 10. Service here is a lot more friendly than Pho Kauai (save $ stay away) I guess it's the best Kauai has to offer since it may be difficult for the island to get the right ingredients to make pho or maybe not enough Vietnamese here so these 2 Pho places only to cater to non Viet people so the Pho does not have to be so authentic :( Sadly tho, it should still be 100 effort to make the food superior no matter where in the world the restaurant is located. read more

I'd say this place is pretty in line with Pho Kauai. The portion size here is WAY better, beef is of higher quality and is offered in larger amounts, many more basil leaves and other sides offered here though. However, the broth tasted bland. It wasn't bad and when I had it on its own it tasted good. It just doesn't soak into the noodles, and it doesn't hold up to the quality of the noodles nor beef. I'd definitely eat here again though. Quite possibly the worst Pho we've ever had. The spring rolls were tasteless. They had no mint in them and appeared to not be seasoned at all. Hubby had the pho soup. Was not impressed. The broth was bland. He did say the meatballs weren't too bad. He tried to add some flavor by adding sriracha sauce but that didn't help. He said it was like they had watered it down. I had a noodle bowl with chicken. The peanuts were more like a sprinkling of peanut dust, the noodles were not typical rice noddles and, like the other items we ordered, it was unseasoned and bland.. This is probably one of the worst places I have ever ate in Kauai. Portion size is not worth the price they charge!!! Over price and under deliver. Order pho to go and seriously there was more basil than noodles and the soup wasn't even filled 3/4 of the container. The teriyaki beef had maybe about 4 small slices of beef and nothing but onions as the rest!!!!!! Very disappointing. What a waste of my money and time driving to this crap of a restaurant. We were very happy with the wonderful food and service at Pho Kappa. We had variations of Pho, a papaya salad and a stir fry. Very expensive for a pho store. An average pho costs $10, but the portion is very small. It is about the size of an pack of instant ramen noodles. It is ridiculous. Services are not good. They let you wait a long time. The worst thing is that they serve someone they knew faster than someone they don't know. The guys on the next table came 10 minutes later than me and they got served 5 minutes earlier. I don't understand why, two people came later got their foods before my single order. I can tell they knew each other because the way they talk. That is the only reason why they are treated differently. read more

Boba and Pearl Tea destination on Kauai! My daughter is the pearl tea aficionado and she gives the pearls the thumbs up. Pearls were delicious and soft with the right consistency, and the mango smoothie was sweet and simple. My wife loved the fresh papaya salad and I was pleased with the Pho. Probably the smallest and most overpriced summer rolls I've ever seen. $7 for tiny rolls the size of small sushi. It was appaling. The seafood Pho was decent and i liked it. A popular Kauai guidebook led us to Pho Kapaa for bahn mi sandwiches with a note that this is what will "keep us coming back." But not so much, I think. While the sandwiches looked amazing, they were mostly bread - albeit good bread but even so, a disappointment with so little within of what makes a bahn mi. Our sandwiches had barely any pork, scant pieces of cucumber and a bit of shredded carrot. The flavor was good but for $8 I expect more than a piece of bread. Where do start?...Don't bother....had the Pho...like dirty tasteless dishwater...2 strands of chicken...what was the point...terrible the worst I have ever had. Anybody being introduced to Vietnamese food for the first time would not probably try again! Here is the finale....couple sitting opposite us by the wall....large cockroach runs down the wall and sits on the top of their chilli sauce bottle which has an open top. The portion sizes on the Pho were HUGE, and although it was alright, mine *the chicken pho*, did not have more than two slivers of chicken in it. Pho Kapaa is a quiet, unassuming spot in the shopping center with Safeway. Pho is my favorite food, hands down and the broth here is amazing. We came back multiple times on our vacation and brought our two children who loved the chicken pho and the teriyaki beef plate. The prices are totally reasonable and the proprietor was friendly and even remembered our orders. Even with all the established resort food and "hip" startup trucks on the island, this place was our favorite! read more

Pho was good, definitely better that average, but the place could use a good deep cleaning. There wasn't a pile of anything, just that layer of funk that builds up over time when a place is moved into and then not maintained. Walls, ledges, corners, sills, Etc. Also, the abundance of peeling wallpaper is a good indication that they haven't done much since they moved in. Get two people in there for a day cleaning and fixing up things and that place would look as good as the pho tasted. Also, I wouldn't allow my child to touch that child seat much less need from it. We found this restaurant in our last day in Kauai and we are glad we did. They just opened 6 days ago so they are still working out the kinks on the service side.
