This place has been on my list to try for a while. I decided to visit on a Saturday afternoon to check it out. It was fairly busy so I decided to order take out. I chose the chicken and rice since it seemed popular. It takes 20 minutes to cook but was well worth the wait! While waiting, I sat in the restaurant and enjoyed the scene. The restaurant itself is pretty small but there are some tables for those that may want to dine. However it seems most people opt for take out. I can also tell that the boba teas are popular there if that's something you enjoy. Additionally, this place is super affordable. I was able to get an entree and appetizer all for $10. That's a steal! Once my food was ready, I had to try it to make sure it was worth the wait. The chicken was amazing! It is so flavorful and tender. Literally the meat is falling off the bone. It came with a spicy sauce but I didn't think it was needed. Once I got home, I was able to enjoy the entire meal. I really liked the peanut sauce that came with the spring rolls. The pho here is Meh, the flavor of the beef broth is just lacking. They do give all the fixings but the actual pho is just ok. The owners of this place are short with customers and rude. We witnessed the owner, I'm assuming yell at a customer because he wanted to change his order. "You have to read Man , you have to tell us what you want". So I've never had pho before. Heard great things. So naturally I got delivery. The thing about pho is you're supposed to add ingredients yourself to the broths. Sure enough Pho Cafe took extra care and time to have all the ingredients separately in a different package from the broth. It was pure heaven! Got the spring rolls too. I love this place. I've been at least three times and always get the chicken pho. The pho comes in a giant bowl - delicious broth, rice noodles and big pieces of tender chicken. A platter piled high with fresh cilantro, jalapeños, and bean sprouts comes on the side. The interior is unassuming but has a good amount of seating. There is a pretty large menu (noodle dishes, curries, Bahn mi, bubble teas) so I definitely need to branch out and try some of their other items too! read more

Never taking pleasure in leaving a negative review, I'll TRY and keep it short(er) and sour (as opposed to sweet). 1) this is NOT legitimate PHO. Not by a mile. If you want decent pho in the Wilmington area, PHO BASIL is the only reasonable option. They were closed, and my pregnant wife was asking for pho broth so we had to settle with pho cafe. I grew up in NYC and Cali... ate pho in the Bay area through Garden Grove. I KNOW what pho is supposed to taste like. This isn't it. Hard pass. Only those who don't know what pho is supposed to taste like may give it a pass. 2) The customer service is sub par. The owner is rude, and lacks the basics of 101 customer service. When asked to bring some pho out to a guest arriving a bit late, the answer was "forget what that girl wants... bring it now". Oh really? To cap it off, I was leaving with the soup and asked for a "to go" spoon. The cafe already uses super cheap plastic spoons for general service as opposed to the ceramic or metal spoons legit viet spots use. Jacob (the cashier's) response was, "They sell them for $1 down the road". SUMMARY: BAD/non-traditional PHO (go to Pho Basil for more traditional) and RUBBISH customer service. I was so surprised by the food here! The boyfriend and I went on a Monday night at about 7:45pm for dinner. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was how small it was. There are maybe 7-8 tables and a small window/bar area to sit. You order at the counter and then sit down, and they will bring you your food. All of the ladies behind the counter and the cooking area were super nice. They take turns taking the orders and getting the food ready, so we interacted with two or three of them. I ordered fresh spring rolls (2 in an order) and a beef bahn mi. He ordered the beef pho and a chicken bahn mi. The pho came out first, and a couple of minutes later, my spring rolls came out. His pho was the best tasting pho I've ever had. I'm not a huge fan of it in general, which is why I didn't order it, but I know next time I will! The broth is so flavorful, there was so much beef, and a ton of noodles were in the bottom! It came with a side plate full of things to add to the pho, such as sprouts, cilantro, lime, etc. My spring rolls were huge! There were only two, but they were packed tightly with shrimp and other great, fresh ingredients. After eating them, I was almost too full to eat my meal! The peanut sauce that comes with it made the rolls. So delicious to add! The bahn mi sandwiches were amazing. First of all, they bake their own bread. What?!?! So cool. The sandwiches were such a good size. Way bigger than I'd have thought for $3.75 each. Since they were cut in half already, we shared and each had a half of the chicken and the beef. Be warned-the sandwiches are topped with jalapenos, with the seeds, so they have a kick! Luckily, I looked, and removed some of the toppings before I bit in! The meat is flavorful, I actually liked the chicken one a little more than the beef. I was very impressed with this place. Even at 8pm, people kept coming in! There were lots of to-go orders too. She didn't even try to ask the cook if they could cut this huge piece of meet for my daughter. because all they have out was plastic fork and knife. When i say the thickness of the pork meat was about a stack of 80 sheets of paper. there's no way plastic utensils could get the job done. We live very near by and have been going here since they opened. Ordered tonight shrimp, chicken and plain pho. Honestly such great flavor and was ready when my husband arrived. The bummer was when he got it home and the shrimp pho had only 3 shrimp. Pretty disappointing as I have ordered many times before and there was a fair amount of shrimp. I called to just let them know and ask how many are usually in there. The woman on the phone was quite combative and said there is always only 4 shrimp and I can come get 1 more shrimp. She seemed to get frustrated and annoyed and ended up hanging up the phone. MSG? Seriously?! Who uses that anymore, after all of the information made available about how bad it is for us? Pho Café uses MSG! I come from California, where there are many Pho restaurants. Most of the California ones in which I have dined are upscale looking and chic, very clean, with much more extensive menus. However, the prices are very similar. This Pho restaurant is filthy. The front glass is filthy, the front door is filthy (I didn't even want to touch it, it was so gross), the floor is filthy. I would never go back. I was amazed by the number of customers who were in there, packed into a tiny dining room, which was noisy and uncomfortable. I am amazed by the number of positive reviews! I guess the people of Wilmington have only one Pho restaurant, and so they are appreciative. But if they ever have a chance to go to more metropolitan areas to enjoy Pho, they will see a huge difference in overall QUALITY. Not only are there differences in restaurant cleanliness, atmosphere, and menus, there are huge differences in freshness/quality of food. First of all, this restaurant uses MSG in ALL of its broths. MSG causes muscle spasm and other unfavorable health consequences. You cannot request "no MSG" there. Second, there are scant--if any-- fresh vegetables in this restaurant. The only vegetables were some VERY mushy carrots, VERY overcooked, some mushy, nasty radish, also VERY overcooked, and mushrooms, (which I excluded from my order). You get a side of bean sprouts and cilantro, along with some fresh jalapeño and lime. (Those items were fresher than the overcooked vegetables in the soup.) If you want to experience high-quality Pho, wait until you get into a larger city with more choices. This place gets two thumbs down. read more

This review is based on service, and the fact that they were more willing to grieve a customer, than accommodate him. My husband ordered a $4.50+ boba tea, that this time was problematic: it tasted like the equipment had not been cleaned... a lot of errant flavors, some really bad. No worries because this is America, right, and a customer can go and say: "Hey, I'm sorry, but this drink is substandard this time. I don't know why, but could you substitute some other of the same for this one?" Really Pho Cafe... if it had been OK, he would not have been there asking for a replacement, but outside enjoying my meal, and his boba tea. Maybe the Pho Cafe folks do not understand or care about the culture in which they operate, for the person he spoke to claimed they are an owner or manager, and that no replacements are allowed. After much grief, they refunded my husband, and he ended up with nothing to drink, instead of something that matched the standard we had grown accustomed to. No lie, they probably shut their machine down that night and said, Oh sh&t there's goop leaching in , or whatever. Message to the owner: in our culture we just want a good meal and a good drink. If one is missing then we believe it is OK to ask for a do over, a replacement etc. It is NOT correct to make the paying customer feel bad because they request a replacement.; they already feel bad for having to taste sh*t, and then having to return to ask for help. read more

We had lunch here today. I had Pho with Shrimp and my wife had Veggie Pho. We both thought it was great. Lots of flavors without being too salty which is a flaw of some restaurants. We also had veggie spring rolls and they were very good - the dipping sauce is very good. We both had hot tea; they have a variety to choose.
