I don't bring myself to write reviews frequently, but when I do; it takes a lot for me to do it. And not in the good way. My expectations weren't high initially, but I did not expect it to be way off. If you are looking for authentic Vietnamese cuisine, then look away elsewhere. Far away. This place reeks of cheap Vietnamese cuisine imitations, lacking in savory broth flavor. I ordered a combination pho and the rare beef has, for lack of better words, cheap cuts that are too large and dried when cooked. The vegetables with the pho are not even correct, and not to mention, we were only brought a small plate of vegetables for a group of 4. Now...for the broth, and I kid you not, tasted like it came from a can with added condiments to give it flavor. I bought my dad along, who always finishes his order (he got a medium seafood pho) and we left with it half full. Oh yes, the seafood consisted of laughable initimation crabs and 2 small sized shrimps. And I quote, my dad said this place isn't Vietnamese, it's terrible. Pho Dac Biet was pretty good. The broth wasn't too sweet and it had plenty of meat whereas other places in town don't give you enough. The bun bo hue was decent however the meat in it was too tough and chewy. The service wasn't great. They should've prepared better for a grand opening. Two workers in the entire restaurant and the person taking orders did not have any experience waiting tables. Felt terrible for the people that came in after we got our food as the wait time to even get drinks was exceptionally long. Will probably try again in another month or two once they get on track with some more staff. Not terrible for a first time if you have the time to wait on server and food. Update: Definitely one of my favorite spots to go to now. They got more help and the food tastes great. However, sometimes the herbs aren't so fresh in the spring rolls :( read more

Someone at Pho Basil changed the amount charged to my card after I left from $24.99 to $52.66! I was excited about trying Pho Basil after a server at Indochine told me they have good Chicken Pho. I went there, ordered the chicken pho and an order of papaya salad to go. Once served, the server never came back to check on me or to even drop off my bill. I had to go to the window and ask for it. ( I had wanted to take 1/2 of my pho home, but figured it was too much trouble to track down a server.) When I went to window to pay, they asked what I had ordered and I told them. My bill was 24.99. They ran my credit card. I always try to tip in cash so the server gets their tip that day. I checked the total charged ($24.99) And put a $5 in the tip jar and didn't think much more about it. (Except that the service wasn't great, but that can happen.) Later, I was checking my credit card bill for another matter and saw the charge from Pho Basil had been changed from $24.99 to $52.66! Someone there changed the amount after I left! I called to let them know of the discrepancy. A waiter called me back and said they would credit me the overcharged amount and it was just a mistake, no worries. But that doesn't make sense. The amount charged was correct when I checked out. Check your credit statement after you go there to make sure they don't do this to you. The food was good but this was a weird experience. read more

When ever we are in this area we choose to come and eat here. They always welcome you and are more of a family owned restaurant as multiple people come by the table before, during and after the meal. The quality is relatively high and has not changed a lot in years even though the quantity of some items are not as generous. The Pho is alway good and it is hot and filling. I love Pho and usually make it from scratch at home. This place makes their own broth, and it's all gluten free. Had the chicken pho over the weekend on a cold rainy fall day and omg YUMMY! Coming from a Vietnamese Californian who lives in the heart of Little Saigon, the food here can rival some of the food back home. Their pho soup is extremely flavorful and authentic and the same can be said for their bun and com thit nuong. Authentic Vietnamese food and good service! read more

Everytime I want pho I usually go to Pho Cafe off of Market Street. Since it was closed due to Labor Day, my friend and I decided we were going to try something new, Pho basil. I got the same thing here I get at Pho Cafe and they honestly taste just as good. We also got a ban mhi sandwich to split but Pho Cafe won that one. It also took longer than Pho Cafe does and we were basically the only people in the restaurant. Overall, I would come here again(only if Pho Cafe isn't open). Staff was super friendly! read more

I wanted to like this place! Unfortunately, I found that the chicken in the pho wasn't of great quality and had some hard bits in it (I ended up just not eating the most of the chicken). I also found that the toppings were of lower quality (shredded cabbage instead of bean sprouts) and the food was more expensive than other restaurants. Our waitress never brought us our water and never came to check with us during the meal. If I came again I would get a vegetarian dish. I would recommend going to Pho Cafe instead for cheaper and much better tasting pho. read more

The owners and the food is great for what we have in wilmington. However, there was one server that made the experience eating there terrible. She constantly makes inappropriate comments about peoples orders. On one occasion she was rude and disrespectful to a lady who had a heavy accent. I was appalled. The old servers were great. Great Pho! Clean eating area/tables. We tried the boba teas, they were good. Small pho is 7.99, boba tea is 4.25. But, the small pho will fill up a regular size adult, so that is an ok price for it. Stopped by because of all the great reviews! How is the food?! I would never know!! Service is just absolutely horrible! I get it, I got there at the peak of lunch time, 12:20! I work at a restaurant so I'm patient! We walk in waited 5 minutes... I see 4 tables available, at this point do I seat myself?! I guess I do! I then asked a random customer who went to pay and he said oh you can seat yourself! So we sit down, got our own menus, wait another 20 minutes before someone even stops by! When she finally did, I ordered 2 avocado shakes, 1 pho and a rice plate. 10 minutes later which is fine, the shakes come out! Straight trash! They basically blended ice with maybe some powder! 5 tables that came after us got their food! At this point we're pissed! Really digging this place. Tried several items off the menu and they were all great. Got a bowl of the combination pho which is reallyyyy good. The pork bah mi was good too, the meat was saucy and different than I've had before but like always what makes it is the pickled veggies and that awesome fresh baked bread. After living in Northern Virginia for many years, where there were many good places for pho, I am happy to say that Pho Basil is as good as any I tried and better than most. The worst experience I have ever had eating out. Me and my wife ate there yesterday and there were three women up front, we had to ask if we seat ourselves and the waitress said to get your own menu. We got water to drink and they bring two half full glasses with no ice, never came back to refill. The waitress I don't care what she looks like but had dyed hair and earring through the nose had a major attitude. We ate only half the meal which wasn't bad and just mediocre and asked for to go plates and she gave attitude over that. I have never left a restaurant without leaving a tip at all but yesterday I did. The work ethic of the staff and attitude will be the end of this place. We will never go back. read more

Solid Vietnamese food with amazing flavors and portions. Generous portions for the noodles... combination fried rice is ok. For $11.99 I'm expecting a giant heaping plate of fried rice, not just a decently sized plate. The XL noodles bowls are $10+ but the portions are appropriate for such prices. Ordered the spring rolls, and while the sauce was good, the rolls were a bit bland. It was iceberg lettuce with A LOT of noodles and a couple shrimps and a couple thin slices of pork. I will have to say that I really enjoyed them adding the basil to the inside of the roll. Many places in this area omits it. The drinks are lacking and powdered base - except the Vietnamese coffee. Coffee was strong but the Thai tea is gross. For the quality of what this place offers, if they stepped it up with the drinks, it would a Mecca. read more
