Pho #13
Wallace W.

As a long time patron of Pho 99, I've watched it crumble from a small market/restaurant combo, which although not classy, wasn't as run down as I found it on a recent visit. There are two front doors which is confusing as the main door is the one on the far north end of the building. I came in the wrong one and had to walk through the dining area to the counter where the sole server, a serious senior man told me to sit wherever I wanted. As I sat I noticed that the table was quite high for the bench seats. Later that made it a bit awkward to eat. I ordered a combo ramen which was served in a very large bowl. It was loaded with a very good broth, herbs, veggies, noodles and meats. A quality pho product from the kitchen. I had also ordered a fresh squeezed lime juice with my lunch. I did not arrive at my table until I was nearly done with my Pho. It's not as if I had ordered it as a dessert, but it came that late. I really loved the pho. But the old guy who runs the place just doesn't have his heart in it anymore. Too bad a young person can't take it over and ease him into retirement. As a senior myself I can empathize. But it's just sad to see Pho 99 fade away and crumble.

Spring rolls

My husband saw the reviews and we came. At first we were hesitant when we were the only ones here on a Friday night but we were shown why it's so good! The owner didn't smile as warned which made us more excited for the food. We got the biggest spring rolls I've ever had and loved the Pho. Thank you so much

Beef pho

The decor was horrible, we weren't sure if the place was open since it's located near a store that has run out of business. Despite this, the food was good. I ordered a beef pho, which was quite filling. The broth was beefy, and the toppings were fresh. They used a skinnier type of noodle, which worked well. Overall I would come back!

The worse "pho" and " egg rolls" I have had. They are Not real Vietnamese , even they speak Vietnamese.

Shrimp Fried Rice

Very much a hole in the wall kind of place. Service was kind of slow considering there were only 3 other people in the entire restaurant, but the pork and shrimp fried rice dishes were quite good. We also got a to-go order of curry and chicken fried rice for some friends and I think they liked their dishes as well. Despite being low-end and low-budget, I think I'd definitely come back as the food was fresh and the establishment clean.

a bowl of pho

Pho shop in West Valley City. Mid-sized space. Not very busy during a weeknight. There is what looks like a grocery store attached to the restaurant and that's where the restrooms are. I think the owners use that space for storage. There was one old guy serving food and manning the register. Water is served in plastic cups that says "Slurpee" on them. Got two of their phos with all the meats, and each is less than $9. The pho tasted authentic. The soup, the noodles, and the meat all tasted like they are supposed to taste. The serving size is pretty good, and there is plenty of meat in each bowl. Overall, this is a good place to go if you want a bowl of good pho for the cheap, and you don't mind the lack of decor or service.

Grilled pork and egg roll vermicelli

On our last night in Salt Lake City, Hubby and I wanted pho, and we found Pho 99 on Yelp. This restaurant is located in a strip shopping center that looked worn from the outside. The inside of this restaurant was really old and dingy... to a point that Hubby almost walked out. There was one person who came out to "greet" us. He was not friendly and rude. We both had grilled pork vermicelli, which was actually pretty good. Faucet water with no ice was served in old 7-11 slurpee cups. The guy never checked on us, and we had to go to the counter to pay ourselves. $27.00 for two vermicelli, terrible service, and sketchy atmosphere. It has to bee the food that brings people in and give it high reviews.

Soup for the pho is awesome, my favorite of all the pho places. Other non-pho items are ok. Service is okay (don't expect much).

The food is always so good. Prices are great. It's a great hole in the wall spot. Best pho we've had so far.

The filet mignon pho is now officially over $20 :,(. Still a decent deal, but I used to love to brag about that price tag to friends. They have a large menu, and you can't go wrong. We recently tried the new special Lychee Lemonade. It was delicious. The broth is on par with SoCal Pho from home. The entire restaurant is filled with those comforting, slightly spicy aromatics that make Pho broth so irresistible. Service was always been really friendly and warm, without being overbearing. You might need to wait 15-20 minutes for a table in the weekend. It's worth it.

Their service here is quick and efficient. They have a very large menu tempting just about everyone including vegetarians. They have many appetizers , we got the spring rolls and egg rolls. we liked the spring rolls but our guest preferred the fried egg rolls served with lettuce leaves and pickled carrots cucumbers and daikon. I liked both rolls and loved the peanut dipping sauce that accompanied the spring rolls. We all ordered Pho which came out quickly. Their soup is excellent and being able to order you meats of choice makes it perfect. We've been here several times and we enjoy their Pho but also enjoy their Bun noodle and rice dishes. One of these days we will work ourselves to the back of the menu where they offer other fried rice and noodle dishes!

I have been to Pho Bien Hoa twice now and while their Pho is not my most favorite in the Valley, it does hit the spot. The flavor is fair. It's served piping hot and has a fair amount of proteins and noodles. Of course it came with the side of bean sprouts, Thai basil, and jalapeño with condiments set on the table. I order the regular size and it's just enough for me to finish and feel satisfied. I've tried their wings. It had a garlicky, sweet and sour type sauce. They were fried crispy and I enjoyed them a lot. I've tried their lychee on lychee tea. It was a bit too sweet for me. My better half finished it up for me and ordered the shaking beef for himself. It was tender and flavorful. Pho Bien Hoa is close to my area when I don't feel like traveling far. It's affordable. The dining area and restrooms have always been clean on both visits and the service has been great both times. There's usually a small steady stream of people who dine in or take out. Stop in and judge for yourself.

The food took very long to come out with no updates provided as to why. Unfortunately, the food was not worth the wait. The shop was clean, airy, bright. Durian avocado smoothie was authentic and so good. Vietnamese coffee could be better without the sugar; we ordered black coffee thinking it would be just plain black. My bad, should have clarified upon ordering. Lots of cute Asian decor, and because it's holiday season, Christmas decor as well. Also, they had a piece of roasted pig hanging, so it definitely gave an authentic feel. I ordered a lot! No regrets on any dish - all the food and drinks were delicious. My favorite part is the heo quay, roasted pig belly. They made it PERFECTLY. The meat was so moist and tender while the skin was crispy. Very well flavored too. When I need pig for a party, I will definitely order from here. The banh khot were bigger than normal but still very good! Nice crunch. The bun Bo hue banh mi is very unique! I am a huge fan of bun Bo hue so I hope they add on the traditional noodle version of it because their broth is fantastic! I can't begin to tell you how hard it is to find a good bun Bo hue anywhere, let alone Utah. The service was great! They even brought out fresh whole chilis at my request. Great family owned place. I hope to cater from this place soon. Their catering menu offers many other dishes that's not on the regular menu.

Both times my husband got viet lattes and those were also delicious. I also tried their banh cuon (steamed rice rolls) and the friendly staff member asked me if I wanted it heated up, which I did. It was the perfect light on-the-road lunch. They even have banh mi and various desserts too.
