You've got yourself a legally binding will, power of attorney, health care advance directive, etc. Betsy also told us everything about death we wouldn't have even known to ask. Plus, she and her husband even come to *your* house for a signing party so you get the documents right away. It wasn't cheap, but check to see if your company has a legal plan (ours paid for almost everything!). But it was thorough, painless, and quick. Just like I hope that impending death of mine will be. During that meeting, we explained our goals and the recommendation from our financial advisor to create an estate plan. However, we received very little guidance regarding the available options or the implications of different estate planning strategies tailored to us. Much of the discussion relied on legal terminology that was difficult for non-lawyers to understand, and we often felt we were being asked to determine what we needed rather than being guided through the decision-making process. Following that initial meeting, we were unable to have any additional conversations with Anita. All communication occurred through email, which made it difficult to address questions that could have been resolved in a brief phone call. As a result, simple issues often led to lengthy email exchanges and significant delays, most often with other people from her office. While we understand that many estate planning documents use standard forms and language, we did not feel that the final product reflected a high degree of customization or individualized legal counseling. However, the overall experience left us with the impression that matters referred through the ARAG legal plan were being handled as a high-volume process rather than as individualized legal engagements requiring attorney guidance and consultation. Ultimately, while we achieved the goal of completing our estate planning documents, the process was far more difficult and time-consuming than expected. We were scheduled for 2 hours after my initial call, but then in the email he said he needs all documentation and forms filled out 1 hour before our consultation. He sent me an email to reschedule the next week but I decided I wanted to wait until I had something actionable. I requested to wait until after I had moved out and wasn't only speculating about my landlord's actions (I didn't want to pay $300-$600 for a phone call when I may be wrong about what my landlord was doing). He then emailed me to refer me to attorneys in Tacoma and Everett. Once my landlord had actually done what I was speculating they would do he declined my matter. Additionally, I was informed by both Hospitals that they knew of NOBODY qualified to perform the appropriate Surgical Procedure in ALL of the State of Washington. They DISCHARGED AND WISHED ME THE BEST OF LUCK...THAT WAS BEYOND INSULTING AND DEVASTATING NEWS!!!! I tried for a week in WA to find a Surgeon to review my case with NO LUCK! I decided to return to my home State of California.
