Long time customer of Phil's. Recently had a tricky problem with my 2013 Audi A3 TDI Diesel. The DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) light came on. Many things could cause this...Phil tried the obvious way to clear the light, didn't work. I had done some research myself and knew we were on the right track. Phil thought it was the thermostat, not letting the engine heat up enough for the DPF filter to work properly. Replaced thermostat. Cleared light after driving at speed, Audi runs great now; getting good gas mileage and DPF working as it should. Most places would have recommended replacing the DPF filter which is a huge expense and not necessary. Replacing the thermostat was a huge cost savings. Thank You Phil and Alex! read more

When i picked up the truck, something was not right so i called and they came out to my house, looked at it right there in the driveway, and took it back to correct. Kept my brother car for over 3 months to rebuild the engine and charged over $4,500. Left us with a car that doesn't run. Dangerous to even try to drive because it overheats and shuts down. The owner promised to pay for the repairs elsewhere becasue he could not fix the problem after taking my $4,570. Now he is refusing to do so. He is a complete liar. He keeps promising to fit it himself and takes the car for more time and leaves us with a car that's dangerous to drive every time. I will be contacting the BBB if he doesn't refund the money. Stay clear of this place. seriously. He probably can fix minor issues without problems but he has no business taking cars for 3 plus months and rebuilding an engine if he doesn't know how. read more

We couldn't be more pleased. We got a quote elsewhere for replacing the clutch on our son's car and were told it would cost at least $1300 and that 8 hours of labor would be needed. Phil's estimated 5 hours labor and approximately $850 for the same thing. The car barely made it to the shop it was in such bad shape. Phil's diagnosed and fixed the problem, replaced the clutch and redid the flywheel all for $910. The car drives great now and we saved at least $400. Thank you Phil's! read more

Stay away from this place. They installed the wrong oil filter in my car and it leaked for months. When you have a mechanic make such a rookie mistake it makes you wonder. I wouldn't trust these guys with anything. I'm glad they didn't work on my brakes, they said the pads were to the metal, then I took my car to Midas and they said my brakes were fine and I have another 10k of miles before they would need a change. I am absolutely baffled on how this shop can be so good and keep making a profit. Actually I think it's because they have so many customers. Phil is the best and comes off like his mission is to help you, whether you know nothing about cars or know enough to talk about the problem. I've been taking my '87 Thunderbird here for a little over 2 years, and he's good about explaining the what/why/how of what's going on. He's saved me money by not replacing some parts in a job when they've found they're still usable, and only replace parts when they've confirmed they're causing the issue. My car's old but he knows it's both my daily driver and road trip car, and I've never had this shop employ hack fixes under the assumption I won't be keeping it another year. I've seen a fair amount of new and higher-end cars in the lot too - I assume they treat customers with complicated/performance cars the same. Make sure to book in advance though! They can be very busy at times, but it's worth the wait. read more

I've got older cars with high mileage. Invariably issues come up. Although they are busy, they're pretty honest about their schedule. If they say they can get to it, they do. They can usually get to it within the next day or so. The work has been solid. No complaints about anything they've done. I like the fact that they never seem to be on a fishing expedition looking for issues to inflate my bill. Finally the bill... I had my wheel bearings replaced as well as an upper control arm. The bearings were installed incorrectly and the bolts on the control arm were left loose. The garage I took it to to correct Phil's mistakes (I noticed the play in the wheel bearings)said that it would have been only a matter of time before the control arm on the front end came loose with disastrous results. I wouldn't trust this guy to work on a skate board much less a car. read more

I just took my 2007 Camry into Phil's. I wanted a tune up before I sold the car and to check out an occasional clicking noise I heard. During the quick diagnostic, Phil thought it was the water pump. But before he replaced the pump and charged me for it, he looked at every other possible cause of the sound. He then found that the radiator was getting old and recommended changing that. He double checked the water pump, and it was fine. Phil could have easily said "oh it is the radiator and the water pump" and charged me double, but he did not take advantage of me. He even took me into his shop to explain why my radiator had gone bad. He was very informative. The price was fair, and he didn't charge me for the extra labor it took him to check out everything else. You can trust taking your car to Phil's! read more

I am a very unsatisfied customer--phil's auto clinic put on a different front strut than I had asked for--very poor customer service--put in something else without consulting the customer; talked with the owner about the service performed on my vehicle;installed incorrect parts. I feel it was a bait and switch performance; owner not willing to fix the issue; wanting to charge me more money. Recently my minivan was shaking violently when accelerating in the 45-55 mile range. We took it to a nearby mechanic to see what was wrong. He told me that three of my four engine mounts were broken, and it would be $1950 to have it fixed. Ouch! It's thirteen-years-old and not worth too much more than that. We decided to call Phil's to see what they would charge for the same repair. Over the phone he told me the "worst case" scenario was $1200, best case was $700. Sold! I brought it in and asked that they double check before starting repairs. They called a bit later and said they thought it was the axles causing the vibration, not the engine mounts, and the repair would be $400-$500. I was skeptical, since the previous guy was so certain, and was worried we'd spend the $500 and still have a shaking car, but I was reassured over the phone the engine mounts were okay and it was the axles. Lo and behold, Phil's was right, my van no longer shakes, and I saved almost $1500. Thank you!! read more

I hate going to the auto shop. I hate it because I am totally out of my element, I always feel confused and ultimately leave feeling taken advantage of. Insert car, which inevitably needs a tune up and you get unhappy me. Upon several friends recommendations I made an appointment to visit Phil's. It was a fantastic experience. The staff was friendly and very helpful and didn't make me feel like I knew nothing about my car. The shop is down the street from a couple of different options to hit up, including Bridgeport Village, which is certainly a pretty rad spot to wait for your car. I am pleased to report that I've found my new mechanic and am actually looking forward to the next tune up, because when my car is happy, I'm happy! read more

Phil's Auto Clinic is amazing! We've had them do various things to our cars, but the most impressive thing has been their ability to find and fix water leaks that come from outside and leak into the cab or the trunk. A few years ago my husband had a leak that was dumping water onto the front passenger floor. After taking it to several other shops and being told it would cost quite a bit to fix (I don't remember now what the quotes were), we found Phil's from recommendations on the Nextdoor website. Phil fixed the leak and the charge was very reasonable. This year my daughter had water leaking into her trunk. She had been told by a dealership that it would cost her over $1,000 to fix. Phil's fixed this leak for $56. And last month I discovered a leak in my car (water leaking into my back seat floor). Phil's fixed this leak for under $100. In our experience, Phil's is very reasonable, reliable, and does great work! We're so glad we found them! read more

I took my 1993 Honda to Phil's 3 -4 times in the past 4 years. They are always too busy to get even the simplest repairs done in less then 3 or 4 days and their follow-up is basically non-existent. Right around the third time I took it in for tune-up and other minor repairs it cost over $450. I then had a coupon to go to Oil Can Henry's and they took out my air filter that was so filthy a mouse had made a nest in it. Phil's overlooked something as obvious as this?!?! Last fourth and last time I took it in, I was charged over $500 for spark plugs and ignition wires, etc. Since I am not a mechanic I trust their work is done as promised. Almost 1 year and 3 months later, my car would not start. I took it to another mechanic that proceeded to tell me that my car needed new spark plugs and iginition wires, etc. (the exact work Phil's was suppose to do!) So I paid for the work again and now my car runs great! I wrote a letter to Phil's and included the receipt from the other mechanic. Phil and his office assistant, did not have the courtesy to call, write back or give a simple explanation to my overly expensive repairs! I do not trust Phil's Auto Clinic in Lake OSwego AT ALL and would NOT recommend them. Maybe they are more kind and fair to men then women, but if I were a single woman, I would go to a National repair shop that is certified on a higher level then this one! read more

I came to Phil's based on other Yelp reviews I'd read and I was not disappointed. I've taken my 2005 Honda Accord to Phil's on two occasions in the past few months (two unrelated issues). On both occasions, I was able to drop off my car the next day and I'd get a call promptly within a couple hours informing me of what was going on -- very little waiting around. Also, he took the time to call around to find just the part I needed rather than making me buy the entire assembly for a busted windshield wiper, which means I paid $13 rather than $100. He's never tried to upsell me on other services, explains everything very clearly (and isn't condescending!), gives me a good fair quote, and never does any work unauthorized. He's very clear that he won't fix something unless it needs fixing and I always walk out paying less than I expected. I'm glad to have found an honest mechanic I can trust. read more

I wanted to take the time to write a quick review for Phil's. I've taken my vehicles here for the past few years. I use to have a Pontiac that I would take in for any issues or general repairs, and now I just took my mustang in to get checked out for what I thought was a brake pad or rotor issue, but turns out it was no known issue. Phil took the time to take it for a test drive, rotated my tires, cleaned the wheels and checked the air pressure. I assumed it would be about $89-130 tops for labor. But he charged me for $44.95 (half an hour of labor) if you want someone who is very honest with pricing, and is great about letting you know what's going on with your car... take it to Phil's! Never disappointed here. He will never try to tell you that you need to get something fixed when you actually don't. I highly recommend Phil's to YOU for any type of repair you may need. read more
