And as I…read moremoved around the country, my baseline for what makes a good cheeseburger remained the Double-double Animal Style. And rarely did anything come close. Until Pick-Quick . To begin with, the burgers made by both joints are similar, but please don't go expecting an exact match. And that's a good thing. There are plenty of places in the Puget Sound region trying too hard to make a poor facsimile. Pick-Quick goes another direction. This is a plus in my book. The bun is just right. The meat patty griddled to perfection. The cheese is cheese, and the veggies are what you'd expect. But the onion is the game changer. No lettuce to give you crunch but little if anything else besides potential intestinal distress (looking at you, Taco Bell). It's a single, solid slice of sweet, mild onion, a flat ring that adds a solid crunch and a satisfying counterbalance to the rest of the burger. A change in perspective that is both welcome and delightful. And they've got a picnic area to enjoy instead of a dining room. So there's that. Their fries are great. The shakes are great. The service takes a while, but that's because they're actually back there, making your order and the orders of the forty people who got there before you. And the wait is a part of the charm. A rite of passage, a way to atone for whatever sins you've made against the cheeseburger gods, for which you will be greatly rewarded in half an hour. Suck it up and deal.

Sure enough- no lettuce and it was ON bun. no condiment were offered or provided either. I did go back to the window and staff agreed to remake my burger. Had to throw away a perfectly good one. There was a family ahead of me... same happened to them. It may be good to 1. Train your staff on accommodations 2. Have a gluten free bread option. (Lettuce wraps are terribly messy) Decent burger but I've definitely had better.

The fried zucchini were prepared in a manner that we haven't seen before - long, flat pieces. Excellent! My wife had the Sloppy Joe - and she couldn't have been more pleased. Seasoned to perfection. I opted for a Wedge Salad, which was another item prepared in a way I hadn't seen before either - it wasn't a big rock-like salad, it was sliced and laid sideways. Perfect. and with lots of bacon! We'll definitely be back to Crockett's! (We'll just have to find a reason to go to Puyallup.)

Since my wife is of German heritage, brats and kraut are a thing in our life. The menu here looked really good, so we stopped in our 29th anniversary. I will say, there is a parking lot across the street. For those who've been in the area for a while and remember past times, it used to be a used car lot Luckily I found an empty spot on the street right out front, so I grabbed it. But yeah, parking in this area can be tricky. Just be aware that there is the lot across the street on Puyallup Avenue, the entrance is from "Court A", which looks like an alley but is technically a road. Tacoma is fun like that. So let's talk food. We ordered the Brätzel, because my wife loves a good soft pretzel with some beer cheese. This one states that it's a beer cheese soup, and it was a bit thinner than a typical beer cheese. But it had a really good flavor. It was not gritty at all like some beer cheese can be (I'm looking at you Hops&Drops). I'm not a huge pretzel fan, but I will say that I tried a portion of it and enjoyed this one. The pretzel had a good flavor and the beer cheese soup was great. We also split the Landjäger / Käse Platte. Let's get one thing clear, this thing is bigger than it looks on the menu. There's a lot here. I'm really not sure exactly which of the four cheese were which. If you go by the description on the Käse Platte then it should be Bavaria Bleu Crème, Raclette, Emmentaler and Butterkäse. The Bleu Crème is easy to spot. The rest look similar really. But each had a unique flavor and all tasted absolutely wonderful. The cured beef and pork sausages were good, but the cheese stole the show here. We also shared the Berliner Platte for a main. Again, I can not stress this enough, there is A LOT of food here. the two of us had no chance of eating all this. This plate comes with the following sausages; Berliner Bratwurst, Smoked Cheese, Spicy Cheese, Chicken Andouille & Bockwurst as well as being served with sauerkraut and you get to pick two sides. We chose the Spätzle and Pommes (fries). All of this was amazing. The spicy sausage and the andouille were too spicy for my wife, but we knew that going in. If you have a group and are wanting to sample the many wursts here, I would highly recommend this plate. Now, let's talk service. I don't remember our server's name, but she was so great. Very friendly, very tentative, very good at her job. This was exactly the kind of service I look for when I go out to a restaurant. I don't want some tablet where I'm interacting with a faceless machine, I don't want a kiosk, I want a real person who engages with us and helps make our experience the best it can be, and this place gets it. The staff here is on point, they are good, they take good care of you and the experience made s want to come back. This place is for sure at the top of our list for German food here in Tacoma. If you have not been, you need to stop by. It's not big, it's not fancy, you'll drive right by it if you aren't paying attention. The blue cheese butter compote with my wife steak(tough steak even though cooked pink) elevated that to another level. The 4 stars is because no radler, she gave us a ton of drinks only menu which was rectified but our drinks only came when the food came and there was time in between. Portions here go crazy. The sandwich was delicious. Lightly toasted bread but not so much that it was cutting up my mouth. All ingredients tasted fresh. The side salad was also great! Overall a perfect sunny day lunch. Would definitely come back to explore more of the menu!
