    The spread for the evening!

We had a great time at the cheese and cookie pairing at the Philly Cheese School! The host was awesome and had so much knowledge to share; we sincerely enjoyed spending some time with her. The space is open but comfortable and also just super cute. If you're looking for a fun date night or activity with friends, I would highly recommend checking out their calendar of classes!

We had an amazing time at our cheese and wine pairing tasting. Both our host and the wine expert were dynamic, informative, and fun. It felt like time flew by even though we were discussing cheese and wine for a straight two hours. I know a decent amount about wine and cheese, but we tried things that I never had before (sylvaner with more floral notes, a same-day chèvre, a chamomile coated cheese), and the class seemed accessible for all knowledges. The ambiance is bright, open, clean, and very cute. I'd look forward to taking another class, and love that the non-wine classes are byob!

Finally went to my first Philly Cheese School class. It was an interesting Cheese and Tea pairing. We unfortunately were starving due to it being at 6pm. I really wish they would have given more cheese. The lady was super nice to get us a box of crackers when my friend ate most of them on the plate since she was super hungry. The cheese monger (apparently the name of someone who is an expert in cheese) who taught the class was very knowledgeable. I really liked how she walked us through smelling, touching, and tasting the cheese. She even walked us through how the cheese and tea together tasted. She had us first describe our own experiences with the cheese then she taught us a ton of facts about cheese. The tea lady has her own store. I really like how it is a black women owned tea shop. She explained a lot of why she named the teas the way she did. She also showed us a sample of how the dry tea leaves looked like. My favorite cheese and tea pairing was the Morning Marley with the Roomano. The Roomano was sharp and had a tasty flavor to it. The cheese had little granules of salt flavor throughout it. The Morning Marley was like an Indian chai without the black tea aspect. It had all the spices like star anise, cardamom, etc.

Had the opportunity to attend a private event at the woman-owned Philly Cheese School and it was terrific to mix'n'mingle in Julia's bright-yet-cozy and gram-worthy space, to learn about the life of a cheese monger (enviable!), and to be introduced to some new cheeses! If you're a cheese lover, I definitely recommend attending one of Julia's public classes or even booking a private event--meanwhile, I'll go back to dreaming about the Delice de Bourgogne (triple-cream cow's milk) and Ewephoria (sheep) cheeses!

What a fun date night!! We saw an offer for 15% off classes when purchased on Small Business Saturday, so we jumped on the chance to visit. We were torn between a wine or beer pairing class, but we ultimately opted for the beer pairing, namely because it was partnered with Cartesian Brewing, which we love. The school is located in a townhome, so the space is decently small but big enough to house a small class. I love the exposed brick and fun cheese decor (so many cute prints and other on-theme decorations). We were greeted by the owner Julia, who was so kind, welcoming, and just fun - her personality was 10/10 and she is perfectly suited to run this school! Her passion for cheese and sharing that with others was so tangible. There were a few tables set up in the classroom for the attendees - we took the less social route and sat at a table for 2 (it was date night after all). Julia and the brewer from Cartesian (also incredibly knowledgable and passionate about beer) had a great vibe, really working well together and sharing the individual beer and cheese pairings, asking for our opinions, walking through their thoughts, and sharing their stories. JuAll the cheeses were so unique and unlike anything I would pick up for myself in the store! The beers really paired well with each cheese selection too, and the beers themselves were very well done. We learned so much during our class, and also enjoyed our delectable cheeses and beers! We stayed a little longer than other attendees to continue conversations with Julia and the brewer from Cartesian (whose name is escaping me...), which really made for a more personable experience. I would highly recommend the Philly Cheese School for a date night, a group outing with friends, a spot to take your family when visiting, or a private event. We had a great time, and we can't wait to make it back!

This is such a hidden gem- this place deserves to go viral. Julia, the owner is such a delight and was a fantastic host. My friend and I attended the cheese and cereal pairing class a few months ago. My friend was a total skeptic and was annoyed at me for dragging him here.... but within the first 5 minutes of sitting down he was sold. It's such a cute little space and it's BYO which is always a plus. The cheese and cereal pairings were so delicious (even the blue cheese). We actually liked one of the cheeses so much that we ordered two pounds of it online before we left the class. Come here for literally any occasion! Date night, girls night- I feel like it would even make a fun work event.

Julia is so personable and she created an utterly beautiful space in a fun neighborhood (side note-cutest bathroom in Philly).

The incredible cheese selection, the curated Italian pastas, wines, and specialty foods -- it's a food lover's dream. I felt like a kid in a candy store, completely mesmerized by all the options. The staff was friendly, and everything looked so high-quality and well-presented. I was genuinely tempted to buy an assortment of cheeses to bring back home, and I still kind of regret not doing it. That said, I did have one experience that made me pause. Later that evening, as I walked by after closing hours, I peeked through the window to show my husband the shop I had visited earlier and I happened to see a few mice moving around inside the store. It was definitely unsettling to witness, especially after seeing all the exposed cheeses and displays earlier in the day. I completely understand that older city buildings (especially in places like Philly) have their challenges, and I'm sure this isn't unique to Di Bruno Bros. Still, as a customer, it did take away from the magic of my earlier visit. Overall, Di Bruno Bros. is a gorgeous and well-curated Italian market that I'd recommend visiting for its atmosphere and specialty goods but I hope management is able to address cleanliness concerns, because the store truly deserves to shine as brightly as its reputation.

This is not a typical cheese "shop" because it is a cheese wholesaler. So, how did I end up being…read moreable to review this place without buying enough cheese to feed 10-100 people? Well, I bought cheese for 100 people because I felt like it (lol). If you are one of the few avid readers of my reviews, you probably know that TooGoodToGo is what I used. This is a hard deal to get and make time for. I have been to High Fidelity and 20th St. Pizza, which uses this cheese. Why would Bandit use TooGoodToGo? More like why not. In keeping in line with vegan ideals and sustainability, minimizing waste and allowing others a chance to get a good deal on a quality product is a winner in my book. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a one man operation but a damn good one. A man who I picked up my cheese from seemed to match up with the picture of the owner on the website. A cooler with cheeses for the many people who ordered. I only could buy one when I saw this pop up. It really is out of my way and I don't have a lot of time to get this deal. It is also not offered often. So it was nice to get in on this. When you pick up cheese, you meet outside Persimmon coffee. So, the wholesaler room, wherever it is, is off limits unless you want to buy cheese for 100 people. Then maybe not haha. This or multiple places in the Bok building would be a nice place to have a Yelp Elite event. Their website shows that they used to be called Conscious Cultures. A name I like more. The name, Bandit, makes it feel like the company ran away from a grassroots environment to a more official brand. Kind of like Katy Perry's The One That Got Away but with cheese instead (rolls eyes at appropriately bad, cheesy reference). The idea that this is kind of hard to get as a deal but feasible feels like that secret that any foodie has gotta experience. It seems you can get this cheese at its regular prices at Di Bruno's and a few other local markets in (Hockessin, Skippack) co-ops, and restaurants. Say, Merzbacher's and Bandit collab at future wine events?

We ordered a variety pack, and would be hard pressed to name our favorites, but we will try as they are all so delicious. Some notable cheeses are the Zaatar, pimento, and down the shore. And know this - the customer service is above and beyond! Great company.
