Bought clock on Dec 7 for christmas present opened installed batterys did not work returned on Jan 4 they said I would have to return to manufacturer as they dont deal well with the manufacturer. I will never buy from them again and if you want costomer service shop elsewhere. read more

Sad to see the inconsistencies of customer service at this store. My husband and I have gone in the past and have decent customer service. The last couple times we have gone in individually to make our final choices of lamps and tables, not one of the sales staff even acknowledged us coming in or leaving. Sure, you could shop online and become easily overwhelmed with the options and guess what would work well for your space and style, but why not go talk to a lighting expert who can quickly narrow down the choices for you and even offer innovative solutions you may not have considered. We needed light in our living room in an old house where there was no ceiling fixture. We thought our only option was another floor lamp, but decided to go with a funky retro swag fixture that Carrie suggested which fits ours style perfectly. read more

So, I finished one of my few rooms in our new home. For 6 months I looked for lighting. So when I googled and yelp , coming across Phillips was a miracle. They had so many options I couldn't even decide. The problem was I wanted something that still had elegance but not too fancy. I needed whatever lamp/lighting fixture to speak to me. I remember we walked through the whole store. Not seeing anything that called to me. As we walked out I looked up and said "this one might work". I looked up and smiled from ear to ear and said "yes this will work" I looked and my fiancé, still smiling and said "yes, this is the one!" Finally someone said "can I be of any assistance". Completely filled with excitement, we were rang up. The 2 week wait was easy. My new lightings home was not ready for her yet. She sat in her box for weeks. Finally today I can say she is beautiful. I'm sad to say that I'm very disappointed with my experience with phillips lighting. My husband and I have been looking for about 2 months for some nice lamps for our living room. We went to several businesses looking for the perfect lamps. When we discovered phillips lighting I was excited because the store is very nice and they have a lot of lamps to choose from. We found a lamp that I fell in love with at phillips. The lamp was pricey, but we considered buying two of them anyway. Almost all of the other lamps similar to the one I like had 30% off coupons, except of course, the one we wanted. The lady working there, Marsha Smuts, was helping us, so I asked her about any upcoming sales, discounts etc. She then said that phillips price matches, and if we found the lamps anywhere, store, internet website etc. that they would match the price. So I went online that evening and lo and behold I found the lamps that I so fell in love with, and they were cheaper! waay cheaper! So, we called her and gave her the website and all the info she needed. She then said she would talk to the owner and then call us back the next day to let us know if he would match the price. Well, she didn't call the next day, but she did call the following day and told us that they couldn't match the price..some mumbo jumbo about how the website didn't have something called guaranteed pricing or something lame...needless to say, we purchased the lamps on the other website for much cheaper and even used a $10.00 coupon on top of the discounted price! This was one of the locations I came to while searching for a dining pendant lighting. This is located in one of the nicer centers in modesto. I wasn't greeted or asked if I needed help for a while until I made forceful eye contact with the third employee. From there I got an up and down , bipolar customer service experience. Most of their pieces are way way over priced. The lower price items , I found similar pieces on Amazon for much lower. They have lots of catalogs to look at...if they let you look at them. Drove down and there were three people twiddling their thumbs telling me they have been answering the phone, (yeah, sure) If so they need to invest in a second line and roll calls instead of rejecting them., Anyway, the young woman in the trio asked me what I was looking for, and proceeded to offer to show me samples without telling me that they didn't have either style I was looking for. Bought two expensive lamps there, one broke from the weight of its extended arm... They gladly took it back as I only owned it for an hour. I purchased another one. I loved it.. for the year that I had it.. and last week it broke from its own weight. AGAIN.Nobody touched it or moved it.. It just collapsed, stressed like the last one. A $240 lamp that can't stand up by itself... Their quality is questionable at the price point. Came in to look for a chandelier for our living room. Staff were incredibly helpful and patient. I probably visited the store about 3 times over the course of 2 months before I made up my mind on what I wanted. They were never pushy and gave meaningful and honest opinions of looks id suggest and needed help deciding on. Their selection is very large and very diverse that is sure to please the most traditional to the most modern of tastes. Probably the best selection in the valley and even comparable to a lot of places in bay area I visited. (San Jose, Livermore, Walnut Creek) Definitely will visit again next time I need fixtures. read more

Phillips used to offer great service but not anymore. I recently purchased three vintage lamps for my daughter's new home and she took them there to get new cords. Not only did they miss the mark they totally took all the integrity from the lamps making them look silly. One was a two socket desk lamp that I bought for the sole purpose of my daughter's office. When she got it back...one socket, no chain, and the new cord was white and three pronged....what the hell!!! Plus the person polished all the patina off a brass lamp that took years to get!!! What???? I also own a store in Modesto and if I treated my cusomers the way you do....I would go out of business. Take a look at yourself......Phillips, you have moved over and over. You are OVER....close your doors and let someone that knows how to treat a customer take over. Your day has come. The original lamp shade which was beautiful now does not fit. If we wanted a new lamp we would have gone to a store and purchased a new one. I am so pissed off and I can't wait until they open tomorrow morning to speak to the person who did this. Unacceptable!!! Do NOT take your lamps there to be repaired Phillips....if you can't deliver the service...then do NOT offer it. Plain and simple, how hard is that to understand? My husband and I took an old lamp of my Moms in to be repaired after a move. They did and EXCELLENT job of repairing and cleaning it and it looks brand new. They were also a HUGE help with helping us find a harp and shade for the lamp that we LOVE. The cost for all of this was very reasonable and the shade is very good quality. Went in 8/27/17 intending to purchase two ceiling fans. I had done a lot of internet research on different models and got overwhelmed with choices and information. I decided to talk to a real person and give my business to a local company. Upon entering, I was not greeted by anyone in the store. As I wandered around looking at fans, it seemed there were about three employees waiting on other customers with what seemed to be some lengthy projects. Not once did one of them look my direction, ask if I needed anything, say they would be right with me. It was like I was invisible. I chose two ceiling fans that I intended to buy and decided to go wait in the line behind the one person at the counter and maybe get some acknowledgement. Still nothing. Went in here very excited based on the quality and selection seen on the tv commercial. Walked in the store on the 07 July 2017. There were two female employees working. I was greeted by none. Went to back of store to review outdoor lighting even talked with a customer that was more friendlier than sales associates. Waited a bit then left. Wasn't even told thanks for coming in. I get you my be busy but you can take a a second to greet customer and let them know you will be right with them. At least say thanks for coming in. I needed a Waterford lamp repaired, but I wasn't on their list of preferred customers. I've never known of anything so humiliating. Next time Mr & Mrs Phillips, just say you don't have time. I can always find many things I like, some are a bit expensive but the quality is great!

We have made a couple purchases from Phillips lighting. I was able to walk into the store and received help from Rosa both times. I showed her a photo of our front bathroom and she was able to help pick out our lighting fixture that also complements our bathroom shower curtain/style. It's like having your own personal designer. She's got a good eye and listens to what we are looking for style wise. Yes you may pay more for some products but if your looking for a unique style this is the place to go. If I could rate a ZERO, I would. I visited several weeks ago looking for kitchen door and drawer hardware. We spoke with a very nice woman who stated that if we were to find a lower price anywhere, including online, they would be happy to match the price. I expressed my satisfaction with this, as it was my goal to keep my money local to help support the local economy. I was ordering over 50 pieces btw. I went in a few weeks later to secure the purchase at the price I had found at a brick and mortar plumbing supply house in Walnut Creek. A woman - name escapes me - with short brown hair was very curt, snide, and had her knickers in a serious twist. She really had no interest in helping us from the get-go and when I told her that I would like to make a purchase based on the price I found elsewhere she scoffed at me a bit for not wanting to pay above retail. I told her I was not interested in paying above retail for something I can get at half the price elsewhere. She stated - ' Its not worth my time, I won't match that price even if someone told you we would, have fun with that; so we are done here. ' I was really taken aback because - it was a far cry from the customer service I expect from a 'high end' shop. And it was a very different experience than we had three weeks prior. How anyone could be so rude to their potential customer base is beyond me - in a small no name town like Modesto. I would expect it in NYC or SF, but really... Modesto? With the vast competition out there - I don't understand the behavior at all. I will never set foot in the store again, I will purchase my items elsewhere, and I will tell everyone who will listen what a poor experience I had. read more

Today was not my first visit to Phillips Lighting & Home in Modesto at McHenry Village. I previously took some old lamps in for repair and I purchased a floor lamp there. Today I took in an old lamp that belonged to my grandmother. I remember it in her house, and my mother's house so it has sentimental value. I was almost embarrassed to take it in, looking for a new shade for it. The lady who attended me was so courteous and helpful. And, she didn't in any way disparage Grandma's old lamp (valueless I'm sure except to me). She took her time and helped me select a lovely shade so I can continue to enjoy this lamp for many years. Meanwhile I spotted the perfect clock for my blind daughter (musical and with chimes too). It's a little like being a kid in a candy store to me with so many lovely things to see (and hear).
