No box, no certificate of authenticity -- absolutely nothing. The only document I received was the receipt with "NO REFUND - EXCHANGE ONLY" clearly printed on it. A few days later I returned wanting to exchange it for a heavier piece with more gold weight for the same money. I wasn't looking for a refund, just a fair exchange. The owner got defensive straight away, refused the swap saying it was now "used", and even pulled up the security camera footage to prove their point. They put the chain on me themselves and then used that against me. After checking, the chain is only 8.5 grams of 14k gold. At today's gold prices its melt value is roughly $720-$760. That means I paid over a thousand dollars extra for supposed "design" and service. Working in hospitality myself, I know this is no way to deal with a customer problem. If they were truly the honest, professional business they claim to be, they should have: * Given me a real certificate and the original box at the time of purchase for a nearly $1,800 item. * Respected the "EXCHANGE ONLY" policy written on the receipt instead of making excuses. * Proposed a proper swap for heavier solid gold pieces so the customer gets actual value. * Shown basic respect instead of attitude and defensiveness. What really left a sour taste was how the Swiss owner handled it. As I calmly tried to discuss the issue, she became rude and confrontational. When I finally asked for the box they never provided, she threw it onto the counter with clear disdain, almost as if she was ridiculing me. Then she simply turned around and walked off without another word. Complete lack of professionalism and respect. For a jewelry store charging these prices, I expected at least some courtesy. Save your money and go elsewhere on Washington Ave. There are plenty of shops that actually stand by what they sell and treat customers with dignity.

In early June I purchased a well priced cushion cut diamond off JamesAllen.com, one of the biggest online diamond websites. I was told that it would ship to me two weeks later which was perfect because I already booked our sailing trip to the BVIs where I was going to propose. Two weeks go by and I don't hear a peep from JamesAllen so I decide to get in touch. The agent told me that because of the size of the center stone it's going to take the jeweler a bit longer. Ok fine, fair enough. It was a custom order so I figured this made sense. A couple of more days went by and I didn't hear anything so I called back. This agent told me that it was taking the jeweler a bit longer than usual but it will absolutely ship to you on Tuesday. Ok great. Tuesday comes and I don't hear anything so I call them again, this agent tells me that it's still set to ship today. It was 6pm so I asked the obvious...it's really going to ship today this late? She assured me that they ship until 8pm so it will. I asked her to call me whether it ships or not just to confirm. Oh, I was getting nervous cause we were set the leave that Sunday...5 days away. About an hour later I get a call from the head of customer service who very nicely tells me that this is one of the hardest calls he's had to make. Instantly I thought, no bueno. He begins to tell me that from the production facility to the shipping facility (which is one block away) that they've lost the diamond. They don't know if it fell in another bag, order, on the floor, etc. He tells me that he has never had to make this call before. I calmly ask him, ok well can we make a similar ring, thinking he must of more diamonds and some options for me, nope. He begins to tell me more bad news, "I can't make you a new one before you leave either. So I recommend you go local." In the midst of freaking out I started browsing yelp and found Vivid Diamonds. They had nothing but 5 star reviews so figured if anyone could help these would be the guys. They were closing in 5 minutes but I called anyway and Ari calmly answers the phone. I tell him my situation and he was so relaxed. He tells me to send him an email with the diamond and he will figure something out. I emailed him and he calls me back in 10 minutes and says, "man be happy they lost it, you don't want that diamond." He tells me to come in Wednesday afternoon and he will have some options overnighted from the west coast for me. I arrive Wednesday and I'm instantly treated like family. Ari and his business partners are all saying hi and offering coffee and water. The first diamond he shows me is perfect and he stays within my price point! He gets me in a temporary setting for the proposal and built her the perfect setting for when we return. I can begin to express my gratitude for Ari and Vivid Diamonds.
