At Renaissance Hair in Leed, I received what can only be described as five star client service! I was late for my appointment and they were so accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. Liz stepped in to cut my hair which was a restyle and she did a fantastic job, providing exactly what I asked for and it's a long time since I walked away from z salon with a genuine smile on my face. They are a little pricey, but I didn't mind paying as the cut, and their treatment of me was worth every penny. I will definitely be back soon. Give them a try, I'm convinced you'll also walk away happy!!! 10/10 from me!

While living in Leeds, I've flitted from salon to salon on a budget, never really ending up completely happy with my haircut or hairdresser. One day after looking at Google reviews, I decided to give Renaissance a try, and boy am I glad I did! I was booked in with George, who asked me loads of questions about what I wanted, what I did and didn't like about my hair, how I style it, etc. George was really friendly, offered to get me a drink (including wine or beer - how good is that?!), and just completely made me feel at ease. I was really happy with my hair when George had finished - it looked exactly like I had in mind. I've been back several times now and been really happy each time, it finally looks like I can stop flitting from salon to salon! It wasn't expensive either, though I think it's recently increased to around £34.

I had every intention of booking but something about the place just put me off. It is really nicely laid out; it's huge actually with light and airy windows. A perfect spot to people watch while getting your hair cut. It is quite a bit more than I would usually spend and that puts me off a bit, as does the slightly scary look I get from one of the stylists who are all standing around talking. Anyway something put me off enough that I just left with a card and scuttled out saying I would call them, of course I never did. http://beautytruthsnotuglylies.blogspot.com/

I arrived to the salon and sat until 1:25 when eventually Jess approached me and asked who I was etc. 25 minutes late and she returned telling me that she didn't know what had happened but the student already had a model. I've wasted time and money coming to the salon which I won't be reimbursed for. I received a phonecall from the manager to apologise and explain that taking someone's number doesn't mean they are booked in. They are simply added to a database and the students are supposed to confirm the time with clients. Jess never explained any of this and has completely wasted my my time. Do not bother with this salon, they just waste your time and won't reimburse you when you don't get your treatment.

Generally, I am a very lazy person when it comes to my appearance. I rarely wear makeup, or…read morejewellery, and I never do anything with my hair beyond a wash and perhaps a quick hairdrying. I have often found myself the victim of over-zealous hairdressers who want to style me. On many occasions I have left the hairdresser with a haircut that looks amazing but I will be completely incapable of recreating it at home. The thing I hate the most though is straighteners. I have pretty straight hair as it is and when the power of straighteners is added to it the ends look like they could split someone's throat. As a result, I parted company with my old hairdresser when they openly disregarded my request to not have my hair straightened. With a apprehensive heart, therefore, I went in search of a new hairdresser and ended up with Darren at Mega City One. What a joy. He complimented the condition of my hair (most pleasing), paid attention and did exactly what I wanted. No straighteners, no hair spray, no nothing. On subsequent occasions, if he is at all unsure about what I mean, he shows a picture of what he is thinking so there are no unfortunate surprises when it comes to the mirror moment. And only 25.50, which to be fair I still consider a lot for a haircut, although I accept that my thoughts are out of kilter with the rest of world and 25.50 is actually pretty cheap. I even managed to persuade the boyfriend to give it a go, and naturally, he is frightened of getting his hair cut. Something to do with scissors nearby his face. The first time I had to go with him, but now he is happy to go on his own and as a result, now looks presentable for 78% of the year. Hurray!!

I always leave with a cut I like and can manage. The only thing to remember is that it's cash only! I've always been put off by pretentious hair salons which are impersonal and make you feel like another person on the assembly line, and you should be so lucky to have your hair cut there... This place is definitely not like that. I'm so happy I found it and will be sad when I eventually move and have to give it up. It is a diamond in the rough!

Whilst back up North I had the great idea to get my hair cut. Well it's meant to be cheap up here,…read moreisn't it? So like any good little Yelper I searched for hairdressers in my locality of Leeds (I'm not crazy enough to try closer Bradford). Jam Hair's 4 star and above reviews and £21 for a haircut sold it to me, but now I see that they were written in 09 and I'm thinking that I should have been paying a bit more attention. Bad little Yelper. When I called for an appointment the only hairdressers available were £27 and £29 respectively... well still O.K I thought, so I went ahead and booked. Unfortunately when I arrived I was greeted with about as much enthusiasm as if I had just walked in and tried to sell double glazing. With an interior ecchoing a cross between Crystal Maze's 'Future' zone and a scene from Dallas, I was beginning to wonder what I'd let myself in for. The customer service did pick up as my hairdresser, Simon, was lovely and chatty and not too overbearing, but his technique was unfortunately not as good as his chit chat. I have quite a mane of hair and asked for layering and a swept side fringe, all of which he gave me, yet there was still that certain something missing. It just looks rather, well... f... l... a... t... Which is a shame and perhaps acceptable at £21, but you really hope for more for £29 cut. In more professional salons, they've also attempted more elaborate blowdrying for a similar price, but here it was similar to what I can manage by washing it with Fairy Liquid on a camping trip and letting dry in the Northerly winds. If I'd have asked for a Kate Bush maybe I'd have liked it. But I didn't. They seemed to stock most Kérastase products, but unfortunatley none were recommended to me so I left empty handed. Perhaps Jam Hair would be fine if you do manage to book a £21 hairdresser and just need a trim, but on the whole, this salon didn't leave the greatest of impressions.

Jam Hair's staff cut modern and contemporary styles as well a sophisticated tussles and edgy pixie crops. What ever it is you are after you can guarantee the finished result will look straight out of vogue magazine.Forget Toni and Guy who cut the same trend cuts, Jam Hair is the place to be! The salon uses the latest equipment from Kerestace products, to GHD curlers and straighteners. A dodgy hair cut from here is just not possible. You pay for quality at the salon with a cut costing £16-£30 depending on the style. I personally feel hair is a very important part of an image and therefore is worth spending a bit of cash on!! I try not to be superficial, but what I just adore about Jam Hair is the decor, furnishings and lighting. Some say it's pretentious but I love it. It is hard to distinguish weather it is a nightclub or hairdressers as you drive past some days. The atmosphere is moody with dark lighting broken up by barred neon lights creating an almost Matrix like feel. As well as being a fashionable setting is it sophisticated and gives us ladies a real feeling of being pampered!

The welcome is always warm from each member of staff, and they always make sure you've a drink, a seat and something to read. Another point worth noting is that the coffee is real coffee, not instant, which is certainly an extra perk! The salon itself is light, impeccably clean, airy and a calming space to be. Every consultation I've had with Louise has been so informative, much more so than with any other salon I've been to, especially where colouring hair has been concerned. Reminders, such as the fact that the hair I have is many years old now so I've to look after it, are really useful - I rarely consider that my hair is so old, and obviously it's hard/nigh on impossible to fix broken hair, so the advice is very pertinent. Whilst I toyed with the idea of going blond (yikes!) the fact that it would be very tough on my long hair made me return to the striking red that I've come to love. On the first appointment, we lightened up previous home-dye jobs, to allow the colour to shine through. Looking through the booklet we discussed a mixture of the brightest and a slightly deeper red, and on both occasions it has looked utterly vibrant and beautiful! The quality of the dye used is fantastic, and has far out-lasted the sub-standard home-dye kits I've used before. Plus, I'm certain it's kinder to my hair! The process lasted, as expected, a few hours for the dying, washing and treatments. My hair felt wonderful afterwards, and it was a much needed revitalisation for my previously tired locks. Because my hair is so long now, styling is a little tricky, but with Louise at the helm I've come away with a great cut. Nothing overtly 'stylised', but I have the length tidied and intact, and a sweeping sort of fringe to shape my face. Parfait! The best bit? I barely have to do a thing for it to sit right, which is the biggest achievement -I'm not very good, or patient, with hair so that's wonderful for me, and certainly the mark of a talented stylist. Although pricing is on the higher end of the scale, the experience and care you receive is absolutely worth it. I would totally recommend the salon to anyone, especially if you're in need of advice. Give them a visit, and give yourself a proper pamper. It's a fantastic salon! Can't wait for my next appointment.

It's not very good quality and you end up finding pink strands everywhere after wearing it, but it still brings me a lot of joy. I have considered paying quite a considerable amount for a good quality wig, I'm not a secret agent for MI5 (or am I??), nor do I have a problem with hair loss, I just love the way you can transform yourself with a simple pile of locks. CC Hair and Beauty have stacks and stacks of wigs to oggle at and I love browsing and trying them on. They also sell a range of extensions, made from human or synthetic hair. Plus Afro hair products, hair care products, make up, skin care, nail care, eye lashes, and various accessories such as clips, beads, pins, weaving threads and glue. As far as doing stuff with your hair goes, this place has it down to a T.

I'd love to have one although it seems to be such a frivolous and expensive thing to purchase when there is no real need. I must say, however, one time I almost did need wigs and it certainly would have been good to know about this shop had I actually lost all my hair! (Essentially, in my attempts to be peroxide blond, I nearly made myself go bald. You laugh now, but at the time it was devastating!) Still, wigs is not all that this place is in business for. They hold a number of different beauty products relating to hair. Some are more useful than others, such as the various clips and such, but the others are all lots of fun. The hair extensions they have seem to be good quality. I don't use them regularly, more for fashion and silly photo shoots, but I must say once you've tried the real hair ones it's almost impossible to go back to the plasticky cheaper ones. False eyelashes too can be an addictive habit, although thankfully I do not have the time or inclination to use them more often than for the aforementioned photo shoots or a really special night out. Nonetheless, no matter how often or sparsely you might utilise these things, CC Hair and Beauty has them all stocked to burst!

Renegade is nothing short of a godsend. Having lived in Leeds for nine years (once you've clocked…read moreup a decade you get granted dual citizenship), I have tried an awful lot of salons in the city centre. The resulting haircuts and my overall experiences have ranged from bitterly disappointed to average at best - no establishment particularly thrilled me and I was ripped off along the journey. Step forward Renegade. Nestled behind the art gallery, it shares the courtyard with Nation of Shopkeepers and is a comparatively new addition to the hairdressing scene in Leeds. On first impressions, the salon is beautifully decorated and instantly calming. The stylists all seem very friendly and, after much people-watching, their work looks consistently good. I have been a client at Renegade for almost two years and have always had Lee cutting and colouring my tresses. The very first haircut I got was (excuse the pun), a cut above the rest and good value in comparison to other places I had visited. When I returned for my second appointment, the same quality continued. Aside from that, I was genuinely touched that Lee had remembered details about my life and job that I had no doubt been blithering on about during our first encounter. Four months on, I'd say that is pretty impressive. I also really value Lee's honesty. Too many times, I have been persuaded to get a more expensive colour or cut by stylists elsewhere; but Lee suggests what is actually good for your hair and for you. I consider that to be a rare find and not one I'm willing to let go - if I ever move away, I will definitely be traipsing back four times a year to visit Lee! I highly recommend that you and your hair pay Renegade a visit.

On my visit I asked for a ombre and a cut; the ombre turned out to be about 3 strands of blonde more like highlights and the cut at the time looked OK, until people commented and I looked at the back of my hair in the mirror and saw that it had been cut extremely wonky and uneven, to the extent of feeling embarrassed having had been walking around with my hair like that. I would never visit Renegade again and would not recommend it at all.
