My dad received hammer toe surgery from this guy almost a year ago and shortly after the surgery, Dr. Shupe retired. They said my dad's foot would be healed within 4-6 weeks, he is still healing and dealing with toe numbness, nerve damage due to them having to break the toe last minute during surgery. He also still has a crooked toe on that foot that they didn't treat in that surgery for some excuse they conjured. What kind of human being becomes unavailable while their patients are still recuperating from their work ? Narcissists,, sociopaths, etc. This is disturbing and concerning behavior from our so-called healers aka doctors. read more

Somehow, I fractured my toe on my left foot, and I met with Dr. Shupe and he told me to get X-rays. I did, and when I came back to him, he said I needed a new boot for my foot. He told me to call him on September 20 to find out when my boot had arrived. I called this office, and they completely forgot to order my boot. Now I have to wait a couple of weeks to get my boot. This office is completely incompetent, go somewhere else for your foot problems. read more

Dr. Shupe is very rude and he doesn't want to hear you. He sent me for an MRI and in my opinion the tech. didn't know how to do it, when I told Dr. Shupe that, he didn't agree with me and looking @ the report and CD he said they didn't catch the correct area of the leg and he'll order another MRI. When I called back few weeks later was told by his unprofessional front office person that he will refer me to Orthopedic because he doesn't do that. Today again I called sand she said she did get the authoriztion to see an orthopedic. I asked her if Dr. Shoupe doesn't do surgery because his card says he does, she said that Dr. said I'm an argumenta, I told her that means he doesn't want to see me and she said yes. I am a male in my late 60's in good general health, but had a slip and fall in late 2019. After being X-rayed and told at an urgent care that I had a "bad sprain", and despite the fact that the injury I did in fact sustain (Lisfranc/midfoot area) is fairly uncommon from a simple fall, Dr. Shupe nonetheless suspected it immediately and ordered an MRI to confirm the diagnosis. I elected to have the required surgery to correct the injury (two ruptured tendons and three small fractures). All through the process of pre-op, the surgery, post-op and a lengthy rehabilitation, I have received nothing but the best of professional and considerate care from Dr. Shupe. Even during the challenges of the Covid pandemic, Dr. Shupe and his office manager, Sally, have been fantastic. I had pain on the bottom of my second toe, it was so bad that I really couldn't walk correctly anymore. I went to see Dr Shupe, he took his time and was very caring. He sent me to get an X-ray and an MRI, then he explained to me that I have a torn ligament and the beginning of a planters plate. Also, I have a bunion and the big toe is going to the left. He explained the whole surgery to me and what to expect. He took his time and made sure I understood everything. The surgery was a success and even on my follow ups he was very caring and made sure I was feeling well. I'm on my 6th week of recovery now and starting to walk. Office is extremely disorganized. Calls usually go to voicemail, even during business hours. Phone calls are rarely returned. The office failed to submit the necessary information to Blue Shield to authorize my MRI, despite me calling several times over the course of a week. Who knows when they will get around to doing it? Hopefully the tumor on my foot is not cancerous, and is not spreading throughout my body while I wait for the office to submit the necessary paperwork to the insurance company. So frustrating! Avoid this practice at all costs. I will never go back. read more

I went to see Dr. Shupe after being to several doctors who couldn't find out what was wrong with my ankle. On my first visit, he literally spent about 40 minutes with me trying to figure out what it was (this alone proved he was a good doctor). After looking at an x-ray, he had a theory of what was happening, but couldn't say for sure. So he sent my off with instructions of what to the next time my ankle locked up. His theory ended being correct and it was a very simple surgery to remove a small, loose bone in my ankle joint. About 2 years later and my ankle still has not locked up since the surgery. read more

The chriopractic person that shares office space thinks he can mind my business which I suspect may be a HIPA violation of sorts, something I'll be looking into for sure. I have had recurring capsulitis in metatarsal joints of my feet. Cortisone shots were the standard treatment by other podiatrists. Dr. Shupe uses a new technology "cold laser". Quick relief and much faster healing in just two treatments. Very pleasant and effective treatment. Not painful at all!!! Cold laser treatments have been used in Europe at least 20 years. Why is the USA so far behind? The cold laser can be used for carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, sciatica, neck injuries -- also to speed post-operative healing. His office is conveniently located off the 134 with ample self parking (no cost). His office is rather small but he is always busy as he spends his time between Glendale and Orange County. He is the only doctor in the office so appointments might be a little tough to get sometimes. I had to go to get my big toe nails cut close to the skin. Dr. Shupe performed multiple surgeries on me, including a subtalar arthroeresis on both feet, and a gastroc release in both calves. Initially my feet hurt pretty bad for a while, but over the past couple of years I really have noticed a positive difference in my feet. I had the subtalar arthroeresis due to flat feet that was causing tremendous amounts of feet pain for months that wouldn't go away. Dr. Shupe did an excellent job pre-, peri-, and post-operatively. He explained the procedure well, I felt very comfortable going into surgery that day, and the follow-up care was great as well. He gave me multiple options and was supportive of whichever I chose. Dr Shupe had done a bunionectomy on me 5 yrs ago and the pins he had put in broke and were causing much pain and hammertoes on next two toes. On Dec 10,2012 he did another surgery to repair but couldn't get the pins out and broke them so just left them in foot plus implants in other toes. About a week later I got an infection in that foot and toes and when I called him when he was on vacation to tell him how much pain in was in he said "just lay down and put foot up". Three days later when he finally saw it he said "you have MYRSA why didn't you call me?" Put me on oral medication and sent me home. Day later foot was still so sore called him on Sat to advice him pain was too horrendous and he said "you are making too much out of this" and the vial I used was out of date you need to come back Mon morning and will take another sample". Immediately went to hospital and was admitted in Isolation for a week immediate surgery for osteomyelitis. It is now June 17,2013 I am still somewhat homebound with very limited physical activity. I have been through 2 more surgeries, hospital stays, living off food from pic lines administered by husband. Needless to say Dr Shupe and his surgery of Dec 10 has destroyed my life physical, emotionally, relationally, and most of all financially. Nice guy but be very careful what he lets you talk you into. The more surgeries he can whip through the more he can collect from your insurance company and I am convinced that is all he cares about. read more
