The Philadelphia Eagles are one of the NFL's oldest teams. Their first season was in 1933 - only six of the current 32 franchises started earlier. In 89 seasons, the Eagles have been mediocre, to put it simply. In terms of all-time wins and losses, the team falls somewhere in the middle to bottom-half of the league. To their credit, of course, is the Super Bowl LII win in 2018 (2017 season). It was Philadelphia's first and so far only Super Bowl championship. Super Bowl LII was a memorable one. The Eagles were five-point underdogs to the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick New England Patriots dynasty. The Patriots won Super Bowls LI and LIII. Looking back, the Eagles ruined the Patriots' chances of threepeating (2017, 2018, 2019). Brady had just won his third regular season MVP award ahead of Super Bowl LII. Eagles backup QB, Nick Foles, ended up being the hero and MVP of Super Bowl LII. Carson Wentz started most of the Eagles' games that season. However, in Week 14, he tore an ACL and missed the rest of the season. Foles started the remaining three regular season games and all three postseason season games. In 14 seasons as head coach, Reid led the Eagles to nine postseason appearances including five NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl appearance. Coincidentally, that Super Bowl appearance, Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005 (2004 season), was a loss to the Brady-Belichick Patriots. Reid did finally win a Super Bowl as a head coach in 2020 (2019 season) when he coached the Kansas City Chiefs to a victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV. My favorite team, the Atlanta Falcons, had a dual-threat QB rivalry going on in the early-to-mid 2000s. It was the Falcons' Mike Vick versus McNabb. An NFC rivalry, McNabb got the better of Vick in most of the head-to-head matchups. As a Falcons fan, the most painful loss in the rivalry was the 2005 NFC Championship Game (2004 season) in which the Eagles won at home, 27-10. A Falcons win would have had us in the Super Bowl for the first time since 1999 (1998 "Dirty Birds" season). I played the Falcons-Eagles rivalry a lot in Madden NFL 2004 on my PlayStation 2. Vick was on the cover of Madden that year. Funny enough, Vick joined McNabb as a backup on the Eagles in 2009. Vick started for the Eagles the following four seasons (2010-2013). He was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year for the 2010 season. I ran into McNabb in real life on a Sunday at the Masters. I think the year was 2016. Regardless of how good or bad they are doing each season most games that they are down at in the end they rally and make you believe that a Miracle at the Meadowlands will happen as the time expires and let you down a lot, but when they do pull it off you ride that for a few seasons. I can't believe it, but after 58 long years the Philadelphia Eagles are world champions!!! As Merril Reese said "Philadelphia this is for you." The Eagles are my favorite team in all of Philadelphia and there is so much spirit and strength surrounding this team!!! For years, the Eagles have had had some great teams like the 1980 and 2004 NFC Champions. We also had many spectacular moments including Chuck Bednarick's huge hit, Freddie Mitchell's 4 and 26 conversion, the Miracle at the Meadowlands 1 and 2. Yet, we were never able to bring home the Lombardi Trophy home until February 4th, 2018 when Nick Foles outplayed possibly the greatest quarterback and head coach duo in Tom Brady and Bill Billichick. I go to a couple of games a year, but I am a diehard fan through all adversity when it comes to the Birds. When I go down to the Linc, I like seeing the tailgates before the game. However, I love seeing every fan yelling for at times over 3 hours in order to bring home the victory for this city. Our Super Bowl victory was not just for the 53 men on the roster, the coaches and the executives, but for Brian Dawkins, Jerome Brown, Jim Johnson and the best fans in the world!!! The thing I loved must about this time was our underdog status. Before the season they said we had no chance. After every key injury they said we were over. As the NFC Champions they said we had no chance of beating the Patriots in the Super Bowl, but we kept winning. As Jason Kelce said "This entire organization, with a bunch of driven men who accomplished something. We were a bunch of underdogs." The All-Pro really brought it home with the examples too. "Howie Roseman, a few years ago, was relinquished of all control pretty much in this organization. [But when he came back]... I saw a different Howie Roseman. An underdog. When Doug Pederson was hired, he was rated as the worst coaching hire...This past off-season, some clown named Mike Lombardi told him he was the least-qualified head coach in the NFL. You saw a driven Doug Pederson, a man who went for it on fourth down, went for it on fourth down, in the Super Bowl, with a trick play. He wasn't playing just to go mediocre. He's playing for a Super Bowl." However, Jason wasn't just going to talk about the Coach and GM, he was going to talk about the players. "Jason Peters was told he was too old, didn't have it anymore. Before he got hurt, he was the best freaking tackle in the NFL. Big V (Halapoulivaati Vaitai) was told he didn't have it. Stefen Wisniewski ain't good enough. Jason Kelce is too small. Lane Johnson can't lay off the juice. Brandon Brooks has anxiety. Carson Wentz didn't go to a Division I school. Nick Foles don't got it. Corey Clement's too slow. LeGarrette Blount ain't got it anymore. Jay Ajayi can't stay healthy. Torrey Smith can't catch. Nelson Agholor can't catch. Zach Ertz can't block. Brent Celek's too old. Brandon Graham was drafted too high. Vinny Curry ain't got it. Beau Allen can't fit the scheme. Mychal Kendricks can't fit the scheme. Nigel Bradham can't catch. Jalen Mills can't cover. Patrick Robinson can't cover." To top this spectacular season off we had a giant parade with 3 million people right down Broad Street. I was there and it was like nothing this city had ever seen. So there are a couple reviews for the Phillies, And Jonathon G. was pretty surprised when no one else had written something about The Flyers. But I think there's another big team missing on here (And not just the Sixers). I mean come on it's not like the last Eagles season was that bad. OK, actually it was pretty damn horrible. But now the first Eagles review is going to go to someone who doesn't even watch Football too much. But at least that means I'm not going to break out the Flight Song or Eagles chant during it. And since I have plenty of family members and friends who plan on painting themselves head to toe in green and parading around Philly half naked the day they should ever win a Superbowl (and somehow I might be talked into joining them) I do consider myself qualified enough. I was only at the Linc once, But it was way back when we were division champs (after last season it does feel so long ago) and although we tasted defeat that night it was one of the coolest nights I experienced. Love them or hate them during a season the birds do have a lot of crazy fans that give some dedicated support through the worst. And after the debacle that was last season, the management is finally starting to listen to criticism and are attempting to fill in some of the teams weaker spots. Grant it it's probably because some of the better players demanded it, but still. They're already starting to pick up some more good players and the drafts right around the corner. There's still a chance that we'll be staring at defeat, but there's also a chance for that crazy parade. Either way it should be an interesting ride. E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES! What do you call birds that only exist online, but like to fly near beaches and bodies of water? E-Gulls. I heart the Eagles. First-Hand Experience: I've seen them play at home, once, and I loved it. It's a great new stadium and a rabid crowd. I wish they could have won a Super Bowl but maybe in the future. Watching them in person you really get a feel for them. They are by far my fave team in the NFC. Wonderful team, rabid passionate fans, great coach and players at the moment too. Now that I've seen every NFL team play live & been to every NFL stadium (current and former), time to review them on Yelp! I love stadiums! I've been to every cool stadium in the UK & North America, due to my obsession with travel & sport. I've toured America as a musician for 7 years. As a proud Philadelphian, and Eagles fan for life, it was wonderful to catch the Philadelphia Eagles (the underdogs) soar to victory, and to watch them beat the New England Patriots (the regulars) 41-33 to win the Super Bowl for the first time. The Eagles are FINALLY Super Bowl Champions and they are officially as good as it gets, which is why I can finally give them a five-star review. Obviously, if you're an Eagles fan and have followed them you know what kind of season it was. I'm not sure if anything or anyone can make me feel like the Eagles made me feel this year. More ups than downs and a lot of good moments all throughout the season. This team is built for success with tons of talent, a great coaching staff and a front office who has a clue. FUBLE Diaries: Episode 6 I try to put up a good front , but the fact is, I'm not very worldly. Strike that, Ive been around this globe, more true is that I'm not very Philadelphia-ly. I'm a huge sports fan, football being the best, but I have never tailgated and have never been to a regular season Eagles game. This would become evident to all before Sunday Game Time. I knew we needed an early start and after the Ruby Tuesday/Oasis 1-2 punch, I was surprised when the boys were ready to go at 7am. The first of many mistakes made was that we had forgotten to take the Moose meat, that the guys brought from Alaska, out of the freezer. We had to stop for some provisions anyway, so we just picked up some not-as-cool-as-moosemeat sausage to grill. We made it to the Linc in good time and were not surprised to see the lot pretty full already, at 8am even though it was a damp day...this was the Eagles Giants game after all. Not that I would wish it on anyone but having Jason's handicap placard was a great experience in there. It opened alot of doors for us and got us a sweet spot within the shadow of the stadium. As stated, this was my first tailgating experience, but not my first grilling experience, so there is really no excuse for the following screw-ups. I got the grill set up and went to light it with a brand new lighter. The piece of shit lighter didn't work at all! I could have farted on the charcoal with better results. Luckily, the Alaskans were good at making friends. Neighbors to both sides received authentic Alaskan beer (which they lugged all the way here on the plane...4 cases!) and we got our grill lit. After getting the meat on the grill , I realized I didn't bring any grilling utensils. Luckily hot dogs are easy to turn by hand. It was great eating hot sausages at 10am, amongst fellow sports fans, with the home of the Eagles in the background...even if we did forget to bring any condiments. Finally, I didn't have a viable plan to dispose of the spent charcoal and hot grill. We ended up using all of our bottled water to douse it and luckily it cooled off in time to pack it away before heading to the Stadium, but images of a burned out shell of a car (or cars!) plagued my mind for the rest of the day. You'd think all the snafus would have dampened the already drizzly day but we had a great time, in spite of the mistakes and agreed that we would be more prepared next time. Once inside the complex, it was like a carnival. Radio shows broadcasting, bands playing, cheerleaders posing, vendors gouging...it was great. Our seats were in the nosebleeds but I can honestly say that there isn't a bad seat in the house. Ive been a fan for quite some time but nothing compares to the goosebumps I received when the players were announced , to much music, fanfare and fireworks. I recommend all fans see their team at least once live and in person. The Alaskans absolutely loved the Philly fans, not in spite of the bad rep but because of it. They revelled in the fact that they were allowed to be assholes. They loved taunting Giants fans with the " Asshole!" chant , a practice which continued long after we left the stadium. They got caught up in the Eagles Chants, the High 5's, getting rival fans kicked out. They even added a little of their own flavor with the Alaskan chant of , " UP THE GUTS!" every time the running back would find a big hole and it was a trip when our seat neighbors used the line as well. I was also partial to Dean's shout of, ' He's built like a kicker!" , whenever a small or skinny guy would walk by. Jason was still feeling a little under the weather and the damp day wasn't helping. He wrapped himself snugly in a newly purchased Eagles fleece and at one point, a fan walked past and just said, " You comfortable sweetheart?" The other 2 heard this and thought it was the funniest thing they'd ever heard. It solidified their love of the ugly Philly sports fan. It helped considerably that the game itself was an Eagles rout of their division rival. We screamed ourselves hoarse at every play and had a grand time doing it. Towards the end, when others headed for their cars to get a jump on the traffic, we decided to stay in our seats for as long as we could, not wanting the experience to end. We knew it would be an ugly ride to our next destination as Game 4 of the World Series was set to be played in a few short hours, but we didn't care. This had been the whole reason for the trip and we wanted it to last. Plans were made on the spot to meet next year, possibly in another city giving some other of our fantasy football brothers a chance to attend. No, I am not from Philadelphia. Born, bred, and raised in the mean and gritty streets of L.A! Yes, Eagles fans who were once rare on the West Coast are starting to become more common. Hands down, the greatest team in the NFL! Pretty soon, they will have a Superbowl ring to show for it. A rich and colorful team with quite a history to it. Beginning in 1933, the Eagles were set on conquering the NFL. With many talented players in their past such as Norm Van Brocklin, Sonny Juergensen, Steve Van Buren, Harold Carmichael, Wilbert Montgomery, Seth Joyner, Randall Cunningham, Ron Jaworski, Jerome Brown and Reggie White(R.I.P.) among many others, this team has come a long way to becoming one of the more popular franchises in the league. Yes there is still much work to be done with this team in order for them to compete with the elites of today's game but with newly additions such as DeSean Jackson, Le Sean McCoy, Nick Foles, Cary Williams, Brent Celek, Zack Ertz, and many others, this team is headed towards great success. Oh, the Eagles. While teams such as the Colts, Patriots, Steelers, and the Giants, for example, enjoy and celebrate Super Bowl wins, the Eagles still have yet to win one. Heck, the last time they won a championship was long enough ago (1960, for those keeping score at home) that there weren't even Super Bowls yet. The Eagles are somehow able to have a kicker who consistently has seasons of kicking percentages in the low to mid 80s (which is incredible), but yet misses the extra point after a touchdown during an NFC Championship game. The Eagles are somehow able to spend the first half, or even first three quarters, of any given game being completely dominated by their opponents, and then suddenly surge and play their hearts out and remind their fans that they are, indeed, able to be an amazing football team, when they want to be. The Eagles are somehow able to take a little thing called momentum, and continue to find new ways to squash said momentum every time the air becomes undoubtedly electric and something wonderful was about to take place. The Eagles are somehow able to defeat the defending Super Bowl champions twice but tie one of the worst teams in the entire league, all during the same season. The Eagles are somehow able to make me the happiest woman in the world, sob like a baby, and consider anger management classes, all during the same quarter. The Eagles break my heart year after year, but it's because I love them the way I do that they are able to break my heart. I love them so dearly that it is that devotion and love that is the cause for the pain and the heartache I feel after every game thrown away, and after every season, as they leave emptyhanded. My three star rating for my beloved Philadelphia football team was calculated as follows: three stars for each championship won (1948, 1949, 1960) and two stars most certainly left off for each time they went to the Super Bowl and lost (1980 and 2004). I counted at least 12 1-star reviews of the Eagles, which is about (hmm, I was going to put a figure here, but I'm just going to go with the word "infinite") an infinite # of stars too many. The Eagles started out as such a strong team this year! I went to a couple of preseason games and was impressed by what we had. So much skill! The rookies we picked up are great and our starters are still strong. Now if only we could get rid of McNabb. The tie against the Bengals did it for me. Too much embarrassment. I still root for them and still wish they win (especially against the Cowboys) but I wouldn't pay to watch another game at the Linc this season. Its much easier to take the defeat at home. I watch every game and anticipate a win. I'm just tired of the disappointment. There were many games we could have won but didn't. I'm tired of McNabb's low throws. How is a receiver supposed to catch the ball and continue running if its thrown at the floor? Lets face it, McNabb folds under pressure and that's whats preventing us from winning more games. First and foremost, why do Yelp rules not apply to rating sports teams? It looks like most of these reviews are just inane tirades by people who dislike the team and/or the QB. I could go ahead and give 1 star ratings to all the teams I dislike on Yelp, but I'm not that big of a loser. Anyway, I will try to keep my review succinct and to the point - this franchise does a piss poor job of taking care of its season ticket holders. Don't tell me that I'm buying premium, club level tickets, then change the story after I've plunked down my hard earned money. How are my tickets premium if we can't use the club entry gates? How are my tickets premium if we can't use the club suite amenities? The only premium I can think of was on the price I paid, only to get brushed off by customer service. Throwing hail mary with 1.5 minutes left and not 4th down, for Wentz during lions game first int was a terrible play call by Pederson. This ruined wentz record and killed wentz confidence because he now knows he can do everything perfect for several games then get a call from coach that ruins him and loses game. They had over min and half left. This lack of seeing eye to eye from this mistake now creates an inability to get on same page. The game against the skins, with min and half, 4th down, this time, Pederson thought he did wrong and he actually has plenty of time and kicked the ball. Another knuckle head move. In this case a hail mary would have moved the ball fifty yards and has the chance of being caught to continue the drive. All in all its Pedersons bad moves that are killing this team. Bradford is now succeeding due to for one non rookie or college coaching. read more
