Philadelphia Candies was founded in 1919. It manufactures and sells lots of chocolate-covered things: candies, cookies, graham crackers, potato chips, and pretzels. I had not previously heard of this business until I drove past this store, and I, of course, decided to stop in and buy some chocolates! I bought a one-pound box of assorted chocolates for $19. The cashier quickly and accurately rang up my purchase, and she told me to have a nice day. Later, my husband and I ate the box of chocolates. The assortment was OK. Some flavors repeated. Just moved back home and I forgot this store was here until I stumbled upon it one day! I used to go to Gorant's which not only tasted like old chocolate but also the new owner's are nasty and money grubbing. I walked into Philadelphia and you can just smell the freshness and quality of the chocolate- it was like a chocolate euphoria! I went to get a retirement present for a coworker and left with more stuff for me! The woman who checked me out was also very lovely! I'm actually sending a family member today to pickup more chocolate covered potato chips because I'm recovering for abdominal surgery and it all I'm craving! lol. The candy itself is great! The problem is that the chocolate from the showcase is not properly packed in the box by the employees. I chose my own assortment to go into a small box. Had the box been packed properly, it could have held 4 more pieces of chocolate. Going home to find empty spots in the bottom rows of the box was very disappointing. read more

Did Philadelphia candies change they're chocolate covered strawberries this year because they are really small and mushy they're horrible ?

Best dark chocolate covered nuts ever, no skimping on quality or quantity. I tried a lot of the filled chocolates as well and wasn't really wowed (except for the cherry cordials - A+++). Their caramel in particular tastes a little bit weird but I can't place why. Still giving five stars because the nut clusters, especially the dark chocolate pecans, were simply divine. read more

This is the best chocolate in the world. I went in to get the renowned chocolate covered potato chips (these are very hard to find at any other chocolatiers). I wanted to get a few so that a friend from out of town could try them. On my way I was asked to get an additional two pounds for my mother and father. While waiting for my rather large order of chocolate, I was asked if I'd like to sample anything else. I responded by saying I'd like to sample everything else and couldn't possibly choose. This place is filled with all kinds of amazing chocolate treats. The woman behind the counter gave me a Peanut Butter Truffle-- another amazing success story from Philadelphia Candies. I also suggest French Mints, Chocolate Covered Strawberries, Chocolate Covered Pretzels. This place basically has an endless supply of top notch milk chocolate treats. I would not mind getting a gamble box from here. Careful though, you can spend a lot of money in a hurry. The chocolate covered potato chips are nearly $15.00 per pound (and totally worth every penny)! read more

Certainly the best chocolate candy in the world! And I've tried it from Switzerland to Belgium to France...nothing beats little old Sharon, Pa's (and Youngstown, Ohio's) finest candy! Try the little pretzels, peppermint patties and croquettes (butter cream center dipped in chocolate, rolled in peanuts! or french mints! Yum! Smooth and silky in the mouth! so good! It is worth the trip, just off of Interstate 80 at the Hermitage Exit! Go to Rt. 62 main street, turn left, and about 1-2 miles down the road in a little plaza, you're in chocolate heaven! Pretzels are pretzels, strawberries are strawberries, and potato chips are potato chips but cover them with Philadelphia chocolate and something magical happens! The best chocolate in the world is a marvelous sensation for even the most particular chocolate lover. When I was a young child my mother worked at "Woolworth's" and she placed Philadelphia chocolate bunnies in the middle of our Easter baskets. I'm stationed in Germany where there is delicious, freshly made chocolate, but they don't seem to make chocolate caramels. I've searched everywhere but finally gave up and searched online. I took a gamble on Philadelphia Candies and was so glad I did! Their caramels are amazing--perfectly sweet and salty. The thing I like the best is the chewy caramel you can really sink your teeth into (this isn't liquid, runny caramel). The chocolate coating is creamy and smooth. The chocolates taste very fresh, without the chemicals you taste in lesser candy. I'm so glad I found these and will continue to order them online. read more
