Don showing us the queen after removal.
    JM P.

Our dog got stung multiple times and that's how we discovered we had wasps living in a pile of compost in our Mount Airy yard. I checked Yelp and my neighborhood google group and decided to go with Philadelphia Bee Co. When I called, Don asked very specific questions to ascertain our situation. He came out two days later and couldn't have been nicer. He is so knowledgeable and passionate about this work. He told me about his bees making the honey for the honeycomb ice cream and my Franklin Fountain and other Philly restaurants. He vacuumed and manually removed the nest so there were no chemicals used. He also showed the nest to our 4 year old daughter and offered us all a science lesson. Hopefully we won't need these services again but if we do, we won't call anyone else.

I am currently living in San Francisco so San Franciscans in Philly can think of Mom's Organic Market akin to Rainbow Grocery in SF. Mom's has a great variety of local and organic produce. Hard to find items that you would find in a good well stocked natural food store or cooperative like Mom's is. Staff is friendly. The layout of the store is a labyrinth that can be confusing like a rubik's cube too far gone yet with a little patience and perhaps asking security, staff, or one of the regulars they can help you get your learning curve to navigate the store of organic natural food product heaven. Within Mom's is the Naked Lunch vegan restaurant which I will return to have a bite there as it looks interesting. I am a proud graduate of the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University in Boulder, CO where I received the William S. Burroughs scholarship. I did my thesis on William S. Burroughs and William S. Burroughs wrote Naked Lunch aka the cut up novel for which this restaurant is named. Since I was in Philly two weeks I was mixing up dining out at the wonderful vegan foodie scene in Philly along with cooking at my homestay. For cooking at my homestay at Mom's I picked up the following: Soymilk Local and organic blueberries Bananas Garnet jewel sweet potatoes Limes Avocados Organic granny smith apples Red cabbage Ginger root Sweet yellow onion I am pretty sure all the produce was organic. Mom's has been family owned and operated since 1987. Great bulk bin items. Great produce. In a word, great. Mom's sets the bar high for a natural food store. They are like the special forces of natural food stores which is quite alright in my book. Each day Mom's states customers prevent 9,233 grocery bags from being used. Mom's has banned over 250 ingredients from our products storewide. Mom's has chosen to print their receipts on BPA and BPS free paper products for the safety of it's community and the environment. In a word...Yes!

Props to the cashier for telling me the strawberries I was about to buy had a little mold, so we set those aside. (Which makes sense - there was SO much activity in the store that I'm sure staffers are more focused on closing the store than checking for expired items.) Want coffee? The in-store cafe was still open when I checked a few days ago, but if not, there's Thank You Thank You or Passero's nearby...

I enjoy all the offerings that DiBrunos offers (that is why they get the additional star) , but I will not return to this location again!

If you want fresh ingredients and condiments that don't contain any hard-to-pronounce-bad-for-you chemicals, then please come to Condiment. Friendly owner Elizabeth explained to me how everything is freshly made and you can get daily "mix-ins" with the different condiments available. Mustard, ketchup, mayo, jellies/jams, and they also have pastries and fresh made butter! You can sample anything and the three things I did were great. The ketchup is meant to rival a super large ketchup producer and the taste is spot on to that brand. The strawberry and raspberry jams were outstanding from the small tastes I had. Elizabeth said they purchase a lot of their ingredients from the RTM including the Fair Food Farmstand. She also mentioned when I asked that the products will last for some time in the refrigerator. I'm certain they will be gone very soon at my house! You can purchase 8 or 16oz portions, and for a little more you can get a squeeze bottle. I got those and if I bring them back, they'll refill them (still have to pay, though)! I believe it is $6.99 for the 16oz size and another buck and change for the squeeze bottles. I'm so glad I work nearby. Hope they start a frequent buyer program...come to think of it, I wish the Valley Shepherd Creamery did, too. I'll be back. Definitely!

I love to come here after I have picked up steaks at a butcher and either get a butter that has herbs and other cool things in it or have them marinate my meat while I shop around. Yes, that is right, they will marinate your meat while you shop! Just buy your meat, bring it to Condiment, and they will put together a delicious marinade for you while you shop! Just pick it up before you leave and you are all set! I also really like their pot pies, roasted eggplant, and other pre-made items to grab for an easy meal. Their sauces, condiments, dips, and butters are so good, it is hard not to buy everything in sight! They are a little pricey, but it honestly is so worth it! Everything is so fresh and yummy. You can find almost any condiment here, and if you don't see it, the staff is so friendly and helpful, I feel like they would see what they could do to help. Absolutely a place to check out if you are in the area!
