This is a soccer complex with a playground, a disc golf course, and a trail path around the center. The gravel loop is a little over a mile and a half, and the inner loop is less than a mile. I love that the path had drinking fountains, an emergency call box, and inspirational signs to keep me motivated during my workout. Even close to sunset, lots of folks were out running, walking, playing soccer, or with their kids on the playground, so I felt really safe. An urgent care facility recently opened next door, and there's also an emergency room down the street. Thankfully I didn't have to use those facilities, but I guess it's really helpful if someone gets hurt during a tournament. Everything was clean and well kept, and I would certainly recommend the Lover's Lane Rec Complex for folks from out of town or locals looking for a safe place to run.

We were able to have a picnic and let the kids burn off some energy before getting back in the car for another 5-6 hours. There weren't any sporting events going on while we visited so the park was pretty empty, but I could see it getting crowded with sporting events going on. Pros: The playground was huge and had plenty of play structures to keep the kids entertained for a while. Lots of cute picnic spots overlooking the pond. Plenty of parking. Easy access to I-65. Cons: It was very hot and shade at the playground was limited, but there was plenty of shade by the pond and other locations throughout the park. No bathrooms that we saw, only portable toilets. Lots of ducks and geese looking for food.

From what I understand it is the oldest municipal course in the city. Staff: Extremely engaging and courteous. Very friendly and are more than happy to answer any questions you may have. A+ customer service. Clubhouse: Quaint little club house. Limited pro shop. Much like you would find at any other small course (golf ball sleeves, tees etc.). An old stone building with plenty of character. Price: Outstanding. 9 holes with a cart for $15.00, with the option to play twice (we will call it the back 9) at a slightly discounted total cost. Condition: Not bad for a municipal course. The cart was in good working order, tee boxes were all for the most part fairly level, fairways were not in the best shape but this could very well be attributed to the changing of the seasons, and it very well may improve throughout the spring. Very nice practice green next to the first tee. They were kind enough to let me practice some flop shots and not chase me off as other courses have in the past. Difficulty: Very good course for all skill levels. Not overly difficult, very little water, small greens that add to the challenge. Not extremely long, with a reachable par 5 and for some, a drive able par 4. Overall: Go out and try it! Good inexpensive course to work on your game and enjoy the great outdoors! WARNING: this course requires situational awareness. If you here "fore" they really mean it. Golf balls sailed past my cart and or tee box a few times throughout the round. Keep your head down or consider playing with a hard hat!

When I first got to Bowling Green, the park was closed off for renovations or Christmas decorating. Since it's been opened, I've thoroughly enjoyed stopping by on a walk or hanging out at the Christmas event. The holiday colors are so fun and I highly suggest taking a peak if you're around in the evening! As far as maintenance and utilities go, it's small so no bathroom, there are a couple water fountains, the park overall is very clean, but since it's small, just be sure to clean up after pets!

A nice little stop while exploring Lost River Cave Park…read moreAfter taking the boat tour through Lost River Cave, we decided to continue walking along the trail through the valley and stopped at the Butterfly Habitat. It is located along the trail that runs at about the same level as the cave entrance and meanders through a very pretty part of the park. The trail is covered with loose pebbles and gravel, so I would keep that in mind if you have mobility issues or difficulty walking on uneven surfaces. The Butterfly Habitat itself is an unmanned location with a sign out front and a small foyer area that you enter before going through another door into the screened butterfly enclosure. It is not particularly large or fancy, but I don't think it needs to be. Inside, there are plants and flowers that provide a habitat for the butterflies, and we were able to see several different butterflies as we walked around. It was enjoyable just taking our time looking for them among the plants and watching them fly around the enclosure. The screened structure allows you to get fairly close to the butterflies without disturbing them and makes for a nice addition to the other things you can see while exploring the park. Overall, I thought the Butterfly Habitat was a very nice little stop after our cave tour. I probably wouldn't visit Lost River Cave just for the Butterfly Habitat, but if you are already there for the cave tour and are walking the trails, I would definitely recommend taking the short walk over and spending a few minutes inside. Enjoy!
