The greens are kept a little slow, likely to maintain conditions and playability as one can see how the course could easily be tightened to challenge even the more accomplished of players. One word of advice - do yourself a favor and take a cart here, as there's a lot of up and down and considerable distance between many of the greens and tees. If you're more than a 20 handicap, you'd be better over on the other side of the kill at Normanside GC, which is a much easier tract. The course is beautiful, with a manageable front and long back 9 (6500 yrs) from the middle tees. The course is open and even high handicap golfers will not lose many balls; there are really only a few spots on the course that are truly out of bounds. The staff is typically very friendly, Jeremy who manages the bag room is particularly nice. The pros are all great too. The whole place is well maintained, as they do host PGA (junior/womens) events from time to time. The greens play very fast towards the end of summer, and some of them slope in ways that will really frustrate anyone. Price-wise, the place is on the upper end if you have no college affiliation (about 140 or so) but is exceptionally cheap for students (35 dollars) so definitely a place to visit if you are in the area and still in school. The course truly cannot be recommended enough, and it offers some exceptional views of both the Williams College campus and the surrounding areas.

Biggest complaint is that most greens had been aerated and had customary sand throughout. But due to greens not being rolled there were small tufts of grass patches on a number of them. To start this review I am a slow golfer and am new to the game. After the 3rd hole the…read moregroundskeeper/warren came to us and told us we need to pick up the pace because there were members of the course behind them. Two holes later he came back and followed us for an entire hole, as anyone who is new to the sport knows when someone is tailing you it makes the experience horrible. Then he continues to come back after another hole and tells us to move faster!!Most people who play shoot over 100 so there is no need to be following and adding pressure to new golfers. You would think they would want more of the youth involved into golf to promote the course more but this country club does not care about the public or new golfers. There are also a lack of bathrooms on the course (porta-potty) that makes it very challenging for women golfers, I would expect one every three holes at the least. Other courses have been able to do this. Why would you advertise that the course if open to the public but when new golfers play there there is a tremendous amount of pressure being applied to make them speed up? This makes no sense to me. If you care so much about your members then make it a private course. I will be talking about this experience to many of my fellow golfers and make sure they do not have to deal with this type of environment while golfing. Obviously this country club lacks vision from their higher management, good luck being open in 10 years. This is the first and last time I will be playing at this course.
