Maxon's is the other restaurant they own which is over in Rotterdam and the food is excellent there, and no big surprise, the food is excellent here too. We had BBQ platters from their smoker which was insane. Brisket and pork belly was great, so were the fries, mac and cheese and cole slaw. For appetizer we had smoked wings which were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. So tasty they didn't even need sauce. Drink selection is great, probably a dozen beers on tap and a bunch of wines and liquors as well. I hope this place stays around for a long time.

The coolest thing is that it is the custom here to walk with a  pushcart, so I get lots of exercise.

Dessert was brought from outside the club, although I'm sure they had dessert options on the menu. The ambiance was nice, and the dining room has huge windows and a nice patio overlooking the beautiful grounds. Nice view in the distance of downtown Albany, also. The decor is slightly dated, but in a classic sort of way, if that makes sense. High ceilings, dark wood, gold light fixtures and a green leafy carpet. The meal included chicken parm, eggplant parm, stuffed sole, ziti, rice pilaf, green beans almondine and fairly extensive salad fixings. I never have high expectations for a buffet, but I was pleasantly surprised. I tried everything and it was all very tasty and fresh. Nothing tasted like it had been sitting, and things were quickly replenished when they got low. I appreciated that the portions were cut tiny so I could fill my plate with a little of everything and not look like a total pig. It's probably their attempt to cut back on waste. The staff was okay overall; some friendlier than others. I wouldn't go so far as to say that any of them were bad, but I think some of their faces may have cracked if they smiled. There was no offer for a second round of coffee, which was served in teeny tiny cups, so it should have been no surprise that people wanted more. We asked, and cups were filled for only a few people at the table before the staff promptly vanished without offering it to others who wanted it as well. The thing that lost them a fourth star was the staff's eagerness to get us out of there. I know the party was scheduled from 6-10pm, and I do understand their desire to get off work. I'm very conscious of that sort of thing, because I've worked in restaurants and retail, and it's common knowledge that nobody likes a straggler. But did they really have to start breaking down tables at 10:05? Nobody wants to see the crappy cracked and peeling card tables you hide under your nice white table clothes. C'mon now. The greens are kept a little slow, likely to maintain conditions and playability as one can see how the course could easily be tightened to challenge even the more accomplished of players. One word of advice - do yourself a favor and take a cart here, as there's a lot of up and down and considerable distance between many of the greens and tees. If you're more than a 20 handicap, you'd be better over on the other side of the kill at Normanside GC, which is a much easier tract. One extra bonus - an excellent 19th hole restaurant/pub awaits to welcome you at the completion of your round.

The starter salads were romaine free because of the recent e coli outbreak. Kudos. Nice creamy balsamic dressing, colorful, fresh. The rolls were sourdoughy, warm and fragrant. Red had a chicken dish rolled around a bread stuffing covered in a rich gravy topped with dried random cranberries, good mashed, perfectly cooked green beans. Apple had the steak, topped with a burgundy sauce, same mashed and beans. The meat was a bit dry but he ate everything. I had the parm, of course. Anyway, it was eggplant, thinly sliced, pressed into a lasagna almost, topped with a beautiful thick layer of flavorful, gooey cheese, a bit crisp on the edges, and a rich red sauce that was better than just about any I've ever had. The rigatoni on the side was boring, as was the presentation, but this parm was perfectly assembled. Wow. OK this is a review of a special event, but let me tell you, the parking is ample, the grounds are spectacular, the space is lavish and beautiful, the staff were courteous and kind and professional (x5). The green beans at least appeared to have been freshly steamed (cool when they arrived). Our dessert was cheesecake. (Friends said I make a better dessert.) This winter our daughter is old enough to start golfing. We brought her for an hour to the indoor simulators to play games and get used to her new clubs. The golf pros are phenomenal and offer lessons. The wait staff is kind and wonderful. In the summer, the pool has a water slide, swim lessons and food. The life guards are fantastic as well. The golf course is beautiful and a favorite of my husbands. It's well kept.

That said, the 3-hour event window felt a bit limited. In my experience attending events over the years, a 4-hour timeframe tends to allow for a more relaxed and enjoyable flow. One thing that stood out was that water wasn't offered at the tables, and there was no coffee or dessert service during the event. It wasn't until I was leaving that I noticed coffee and desserts had been set out, but by then, no one was really partaking. It might help to place those items closer to the main dining area or have staff circulate, especially during programs with presentations and speakers. Many guests, myself included, wouldn't feel comfortable getting up and walking to the front during those moments just to grab water or coffee. Overall, a nice venue with a few opportunities to enhance the guest experience.

The kitchen offered hotdogs and chips for $6. A help yourself, kind of like a 7/11. There were no snacks for the women. On Sunday the temp was 55 there was no hot beverages out on the course. Apparently the kitchen made up bag lunches for the women but chose to give them out after their 18 holes were played. Poor hosts to say the least.
