After reading great reviews, I decided to pay Richard Lyons Nursery a visit and was glad I did. The property is a little tricky to find and from the street doesn't look that big, but once you enter, you will see the outside looks are deceiving. This place is packed with all sorts of ornamentals, fruit trees and other types of plants. After choosing several plants and having the sales ticket written up, I was very pleasantly surprised to see that it was only $40. Had I gone to another place in Kendall or a major retailer, I would have paid much more. I will definitely be back for more.

We first discovered Lyons in our search for rare Atala butterflies to augment the population at our house... the folks at Montgomery botanical center had recently brought a population of Atala caterpillars to feed on Lyons sizable coontie selection. We were lucky to get a coontie with freshly laid eggs... that was in late September, and they emerged from their cocoons today (late October). They have a wonderful selection of butterfly larval and nectar plants. They have both local and exotic plants also including bamboo, heliconia, and more. When you arrive, park a short way in... a siren will announce your presence, and you'll soon be met by a guide in a golf cart. We've been four times so far, and each time we go we've discovered a new area, and new plants. As you wander around, make sure you look at the amazing mature specimens that dot the property.... such an amazing variety... it rivals a botanical garden!

Let me begin this review by making a very important statement. A Heavenly Garden, not The Heavenly…read moreGarden! Why do I say this? Because if you write The Heavenly Garden on your Google Maps app, you will end up on the other side of Homestead, looking at various mansions. Not even kidding. That being said, given that this is being written on Yelp, I trust you won't have the adventure my girlfriend and I did trying to find this sanctuary of orchids and succulents among many other treasures. Ahem. Let's see... what's there to know? Well, they have a free and immense parking lot and you can essentially spend your entire day there taking photos. I took dozens upon dozens, but I'm not bothering posting them all because I don't think that they serve this place justice. Not only is the staff following proper protocol during COVID-19, but they're kind and willing to give you a free tour. The gentleman who attended us was so friendly, but more so, he was instructive and we even learned that a particular flower had chocolate smells coming from it in the morning. Also, we learned how some orchids got their unnatural color. Specifically the blue orchid I fell in love with. I'd probably have bought one, but everything I touch dies. I don't have a green thumb whatsoever. I would, however, happily buy one for a loved one should the occasion arise.

One of my favorite orchid and bromeliad gardens to visit. Offering a vast variety of orchid species and colors. You'll find any plant to fit your budget. Prices vary although some very reasonably priced and some lore expensively priced. They always have great quality and beautiful plants to choose from. Plenty of knowledgeable workers around that can help you select, design, or answer any questions you may have.

Absolutely spectacular experience! I had an amazing day here…read moretoday I came to pick an avocado tree for a property I own in Fort Lauderdale and it was well worth the hour drive! The 50 acre farm is like visiting a botanical garden. One of the staff drove us around in a golf cart and tirelessly explained the varieties to me even though I must have seemed like a total city idiot mixing things up over and over... I ended up purchasing a " bacon avocado" ten lemongrass bushes and a fig tree. I'll be back for a mango tree for sure We also had a nice picnic under a thatched roof they have Highly recommend this place!!!

The staff were helpful but you knew they really didn't want to deal with somebone buying one or two items. We took a brief tour on the golf cart and I picked out a Sweetheart Lychee and a Barbados Cherry. Each time I was going to buy, I was pointed to the ugly ducklings, not the nicer trees that were shown at first. Determined to purchase something after driving an hour and wanting to support them, I bought the trees anyway. I've done enough gardening to know when a nursery is trying to sell you their 2nd rate stock The staff member carefully loaded the trees into my car. The office was small but efficient. My friend tried to make small talk. I was looking to leave. I paid in cash and we were on our way. In the future, I would buy from other nurseries that are willing to sell me better quality product. Members of my family have a large business up north that buys wholesale plants and trees from Homestead. I guess you have to be in the business.
